man oh man. oh man.

what a swell birthday weekend!!

friends and boyfriends, rollercoasters and chocolate, dancing and whiskey sours. backseat love and video games. burritos and egg salad. hand-holding, smiling. taking it easy.

i've realized that this is like dating my best friend. which feels a lot more awesome than it may sound.

if this is a preview of summer, let it commence. i'm ready to get soaked.

i was walking the mons tonight and some bougie young woman was on her front step with her boyfriend and says "you know i love these dogs, they look like gremlins." and i whole-heartedly agreed and told her that's why her name's monster. she then says, "i saw her all the way down the block and could tell she is a very special dog." how nice is that!? oh mons.

i just downloaded 17 episodes of ugly betty and i hope they are good. i am also going to eat a vegan cheesesteak while watching an episode and then watercolor because i'm feeling creative.

i have to get my wireless cable internet set up and one of the questions is if i need to rent or buy a modem...

i've been getting more into the idea of art and ideas and products being displayed publicly. not as a way of self-advertisement. but more so as a means to express what's going on in the head, heart, or really any other part of the body (what would an expression of the legs look like?). i'm questioning what could make an idea wrong. and ideas aren't wrong. and i think that needs to be applied to my own brain.

i've finally started to compare less. and just do.

when i was in DC last weekend, i saw these up around the city:

and i think this idea is great:

inspired by peter, i put together my 2007 album list (a little early, but i don't think there's anything else really coming out).

i'm being kinda unfair with this list. for example, one was originally released in 2006 but i still consider it this year because it wasn't available here until 2007. another just came out overseas but won't be released here until next year. as hypocritical as it is, it still counts. but no, goldfrapp doesn't count as there are rumors it isn't finished (whatever).

HOWEVER, i must say that year has been hella surprising. i would say half these bands i had almost NO interest in before 2007. i didn't think their past efforts were that great, but they really blew me away this year (i'm talking to you panda bear, jens, glass candy, blonde redhead, and especially tegan & sara). others i felt "eh" about but was EXTREMELY astounded (seriously, the new raveonettes is fucking killer). and, i was disappointed by old favorites (bjork and imperial teen). however, this was a good year for some sexy music (thanks chromatics).

and then there was one band i had no idea existed, but ended up making my favorite album of the year. really, what it all comes down to is perfect pop. and they sure did do it.

Human race will 'split into two different species'
By NIALL FIRTH

The human race will one day split into two separate species, an attractive, intelligent ruling elite and an underclass of dim-witted, ugly goblin-like creatures, according to a top scientist.

100,000 years into the future, sexual selection could mean that two distinct breeds of human will have developed.

The alarming prediction comes from evolutionary theorist Oliver Curry from the London School of Economics, who says that the human race will have reached its physical peak by the year 3000.

The report claims that after they reach their peak around the year 3000 humans will begin to regress
Enlarge the image

These humans will be between 6ft and 7ft tall and they will live up to 120 years.

"Physical features will be driven by indicators of health, youth and fertility that men and women have evolved to look for in potential mates," says the report, which suggests that advances in cosmetic surgery and other body modifying techniques will effectively homogenise our appearance.

Men will have symmetrical facial features, deeper voices and bigger penises, according to Curry in a report commissioned for men's satellite TV channel Bravo.

Women will all have glossy hair, smooth hairless skin, large eyes and pert breasts, according to Curry.

Racial differences will be a thing of the past as interbreeding produces a single coffee-coloured skin tone.

The future for our descendants isn't all long life, perfect bodies and chiselled features, however.

While humans will reach their peak in 1000 years' time, 10,000 years later our reliance on technology will have begun to dramatically change our appearance.

Medicine will weaken our immune system and we will begin to appear more child-like.

Dr Curry said: "The report suggests that the future of man will be a story of the good, the bad and the ugly.

pretty interesting, at least as a theory. i don't know if that's mean-spirited or what, but really. although if you go into south philly now, it looks like it is already taking place.

i got a roll of film from my holga developed over the weekend. this roll was a year old. half of the photos didn't come out, i guess, as i only got 7 back. 5 of them aren't very good. so really, the price was a total bummer, which sucks. but i suppose that is the luck of the draw.

STILL, these two photos couldn't be captured with a digital camera. the colors are great, i'll always be a sucker for the vignettes, and i just love them:

what i read and found out learned today, about falling into water from a high altitude, and am completely intrigued by, verbatim:

A falling human stops short when it hits the surface of the water, but its organs keep traveling for a fraction of a second longer, until they hit the wall of the body cavity, which by that point has started to rebound. The aorta often ruptures because part of it is fixed to the body cavity--and thus stops at the same time--while the other part, the part closest to the heart, hangs free and stops slightly later; the two parts wind up traveling in opposite directions and the resultant shear forces cause the forces to snap.

and all this time, i thought i could jump off bridges. of course, the author is referring to much higher falls, like from airplanes crashing, but a jump off a bridge would/could break ribs, which in turn can likely pierce lungs or hearts.

and so it seems, we are not invincible.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

i had a nice end of weekdays by going with mike to our favorite amusement park and seeing the newest attraction (aka THE FUCKING BIGGEST WATER PLAY AREA IN THE WORLD). rode some rides, ate vinegar fries, held hands, everything we've been doing the past three years.

we hung out with amy and adam, where amy and i made some art together in their attic while discussing how crazy it is about our men/relationships sitting downstairs. we are adults in love. we then spied on them from the top of the banister, only to overhear them talking not of relationships as well, but of bike rides and how much better their bikes are than ours.

i've finally finished being lazy and have written further letters of interest to the school district seemingly interested in me. i hope this mutual attraction leads further, but as time goes on, i'm only getting more nervous.

so for now all i can do is keep learning, keep running and petting my dog and continue to find something new to ease my mind about certain situations by the end of my days.
