[Public] New Tulsa Java

ATTENTION TULSA PEEPS

There is a new coffee shop called The Collective. It is on 11th St., directly across from the TU stadiums. It also has wireless internet access, a bar, and art/performance space. It is a neat place all around, and the people trying to live their dream by opening the place are really cool.

Patronize it immediately and often, and spread the word. We want it to be filled with cool people and turning huge profits as quickly as possible for a variety of reasons.

[NOTE: No, I don't actually expect my stamp of approval to result in a P.Diddy/Burger King-esque influx of customers, but it would be FREAKIN' AWESOME if it happened!]

[Public] Clone Wars Review
I promised a longer review, and since I'm up, I'll write it...

Animation -- Pretty darn good. Of course, that fact isn't particularly impressive, because there was a big green "Lucasfilm" before the opening credits, so only BAD animation would be something to talk about, really. I wasn't particularly fond of the character design style, but that's just a personal taste issue. My only real beef in this area is that fluid/natural movement for extras was clearly not in the budget (the Twi'leks' tchun-tchin were especially unimpressive).

Cinematography -- Average. The epic sequences and battle scenes were pretty freakin' cool, and the level of detail was gratifying, but the bulk of the movie was basically either characters standing around delivering their lines (see below) or obnoxiously protracted establishing shots.

Story -- Pretty good up until the drastic shift (see the LJ-Cut), but really badly executed in several ways, not the least of which is...

Character -- Not much depth to be had. The named characters barely reached the level of archetype, and everybody else was either "some schlub" or "comic relief." Though, frankly, I think that's more an issue of...

Dialogue -- Lame. Honestly, it was terrible. It ranged from stilted to out-and-out stupid, and I lost track of the number of times banal repetition left me thinking, "Right. We get it. Move on, already!" Even if the movie was "meant for kids" (and given the level of violence and the way the trailers were geared, I'd dispute that), the writers must have had a pretty low opinion of kids. I can easily imagine the voice actors standing in the studio with their scripts thinking, "I'm paid by the hour. I'm paid by the hour. I can put Star Wars on my résumé, and I'm paid by the hour."

Pacing -- Absolute crap. It felt kind of like they cobbled together a bunch of cut scenes from a really cool video game, which I didn't get the enjoyment of actually playing.

Then there's the reason the number of movies I have walked out on now numbers three... Could constitute a spoiler... )

Overall -- Very disappointing, but Lucas the Hutt will probably still make a mint off it in much the same way Nintendo does.

[Public] Suburban Tribe
I've been rather enjoying going through the archives of Suburban Tribe. Admittedly, I'm only up to July of 2005, but if I get all the way up to current strips and still like it, it will definitely have a place on my regularly-read list.

In particular, neutralizing the kitty struck my funny bone, and I think I've had this conversation about the weather with [info]lostgirl1787.

[Public] Movie Review: Iron Man
I saw it this past weekend. My reaction at every point during the film was, "Awesome! Cool! Neato! Wow! Awesome!"

After it was over, I found that I had only one issue -- Robert Downey, Jr. I believe that his take on Tony Stark suited the character marvelously, and I really liked both the writing and his delivery. What bugs me is that his performance was not functionally different from most of his other performances in other films I've liked. It worked for Tony Stark (and damn well), but that doesn't stop it from being the stereotype of a "Robert Downey, Jr., character." If anybody ELSE had done the same thing in the role, it would have been unique, but for all we know, Downey might well have phoned it in, and we just didn't notice, because that kind of character is what he does.

...but I can live with that, because the end result was so cool.

Spoiler-ish (?) note on the post-credits bit... )

Two pictures that amused me lately...

Next, a video [info]poweroftiga showed me a while back with the 5th & 10th Doctors, which has been on my mind ever since, but I didn't think to look up on YouTube until various people posted it recently...

Finally, a WoW-style video for the NSFW song that's been going through my head all day...

[Public] Dear Protestors...
When planning your protest, it would be to your advantage to carefully consider several questions.

(1) Will this action effectively make the point I wish to make, or is it so vague and unfocused as to be easily misconstrued by people who do not have the benefit of having been present to hear my rant last week?

(2) Does this action effectively target the social ill I wish to bring into the public conversation or, alternatively, its perpetrator(s), or is it so open-ended that it appears I am randomly flailing at everybody who doesn't think and feel as I do?

(3) Will this action inspire change in the minds of those who do not currently understand or agree with my cause? Will it inspire those people that agree with my stance to rally? Or, will it cause a significant portion of both groups to roll their eyes and think, "What a dumbass," which is commonly known as "hurting my cause"?

[Public] Computer Question
I've just acquired a Dell Dimension 2300. It currently has two RAM sticks with the following on the labels:

Stick 1:
       Samsung Korea H 0224
       PC133U-333-542
       M366S1654DTS-C7A

Stick 2:
       MT16LSDT6464AG-13ED2 200439 CCTAJJP006
       COUNTRY OF ORIGIN UK
       PC133U-222-542-Z
       512MB, SYNCH, 133MHz, CL2

       CRUCIAL TECHNOLOGY 48262
       MT 200439
       CT64M64S4D7E.16LTD
       BT1119S.W7

I also have an older Dell Dimension L700cx, which has one RAM stick with the following on the label:

Stick 3:
       TOSHIBA
       THMY 12N11A75
       PC133U-333-542-Z
       540084/0051UKC
       16Mx64 SDRAM
       ASSY IN USA

Can I replace Stick 1 in the "new" computer with Stick 3 from the old? If so, would it be a good idea or a bad one?

I tried to figure it out on my own, but I got completely lost and gave up.

Thanks.
