4:49 am - [Rant] I just figured ppl deserved an explanation for...
|
...the reason why I've not really made any efforts to complete the remodeling/updating of Forgiver Sign amongst things. The things that come to me at.....what...4am or so. Do forgive me if it makes no sense. Or is redundant.
Sure, there was a lot of procastination involved initially, but afterwards, it was more of a fandom problem. I mean, before Gensui 3 came out, I probably would have provided the slightest bit of effort in completing the dreaded site (had enough people bothered me about it). Now however, The Reason I have for having left the site entirely to lucienlariviere's very sporadic (and quite non-existant) care is the fandom. A lot of people out there where I can't see them (I dare say I'm a hermit now) are only fans of the series through Suikoden 3....which, as a long-standing fan, I dare call a total and utter mess.
I will admit that it is a good enough game, but there is no replay value for me whatsoever. I've played through the game once, in a very rushed fashion, with the help of Japanese strategy guides, only so I could properly be a GM for Suikoden 3 RPG. Well, the unfortunate thing about the RPG was that the game itself, its plot especially, killed any desire to moderate the RPG (which is very dead right now).
...Where was I... ...ah, yes, utter mess. Well, Newly-Introduced fans of Suikoden -- in particular, you FIERCE yaoi fangirls out there -- you've thoroughly killed any desire to have anything to do with the fandom. I don't know where the fuck you pull out all those couplings, but I daresay you write it so terribly it makes me retch. I will agree to the game-canon pairings, but don't come at me with a pairing you believe is so OTP (one true pairing) that EVERYONE should obviously see it. Now if you'd written it in a more... oh, I don't know... IN-CHARACTER manner, I'd have probably adhered to it.
And you, yaoi fangirls? There was no yaoi whatsoever in Suikoden 3. I appreciate yaoi, wrote some shounen-ai fics (please refer to FF.net and run a search for Shinju Hoh) and participated in yaoi/smutty rps in the past. I have a passionate stand on a few particular couplings such as Gremio/botchan, Ted/botchan, Jowy/Kuwan(H2) and yes.....the dreaded now-twincestual-masturbating Sasarai/Luc. And now, I shall tell you a great truth of my views about Suikoden 3 yaoi... I. Don't. See. The. Yaoi. Any of my acquaintances -- all better yaoi fans than myself, as I also like perfectly heterosexual pairings while they see other stuff -- Do. Not. See. It.
Indeed, we are probably hypocrites as some have taken a liking to Yuber/Albert (as long as people consider the LACK of LOVE in their relationship) and I've had some thoughts of how to re-work Sas/Luc in light of Sui 3's events. Heck, I enjoy a good Caesar/Hugo fanart when I can find one. But it's mostly just from enjoying the visual effect and not from throwing characters onto each other into the most disgustingly out-of-character fashion in a fanfic. Percival isn't lusting for Borus behind his playboy facade. Geddoe and Jacques don't have this secret relationship, nor Geddoe and Luc have this great understanding of each other that'll make them miraculously fall into each other's arms.
I'll let you in onto something again.... Percival loves woman. He has no desire to bed Borus at all. Geddoe is quite very distant of people in his own quiet ways and the only person who cares for him in any romantic fashion is Queen (which I will approve of as long as they don't end up in bed). Luc...dear me, has a better appreciation of Sarah (I shall whimper here *does so*) and has better chances at getting together with her than with anyone else, had he lived another day. [I will say right here and now that I don't want to think of Luc as ROMANTICALLY involved with Sarah as he's been her surrogate brother/father figure for at least eleven years of her life and I can only ever see a platonic relationship. I dare think Sarah has an Elektra complex. (the opposite of the Oedipus complex for you ignoramuses)]
So....let's see... the point of my rant... Dear Fans of Suikoden, idiots, fangirls and whatnot. I will not actively seek out and destroy whatever you produce, be it from me to dare stand between you and what you like considering my own liking of Sasarai/Luc. But if you MUST write such UTTER CRAP, I would APPRECIATE, as many long-standing fans would, if you did NOT go and flood us with them (I have abandoned the very first Yaoi Suikoden ml [still on yahoo groups] due to that). Keep it in your own sites, in your own circles. Make a clique for it if you must! But PLEASE try to make it even the SLIGHTEST FUCKING DAMNED BIT IC! And if IC doesn't work, then at LEAST try to give us a friggen GOOD explanation for the OOCness. And no, angsty not-mentioned-by-Konami pasts that conflict with canon do not work.
And now that I've lost ideal command of caps, italics and bolds, I shall now retire to bed and return to my isolation from the net and website administrating. Thank you.
Edit: Oh and... People are welcome to use/refer to this should they ever feel the need.

Haven't enough HDD space to unzip all my zipped mp3s, but 188 hrs of music/radio show/drama is kinda plenty, right?
Step 1: Open your MP3 player. Step 2: Put all of your music on random. Step 3: Write down the first fifteen songs it plays, no matter how embarrassing.
1) Kilie Minogue - Can't get you out of my head 2) Toshihiko Sato (Composer) - Senkyou Houkoku (BGM from...dunno where *didn't label*) [Edit: .....Gundam Seed? Huh.... don't even watch that.] 3) Katou Juri - Sayonara dake ga Shitteta 4) L'Arc-en-Ciel - get out from the shell -asian version- 5) Indigo Girls - Let It Be Me 6) L'Arc-en-Ciel - The Ghost In My Room 7) Matantei Loki Ragnarok - OST 1 - Spu Daisakusen 8) Aniplex-Hour #12 (03.12.22) - Hagaren Housoukyoku 30-mins Special - Paku Romi, Kugimiya Rie, Mizushima Seiji (director) 9) Aniplex-Hour #19 (04.02.08) - Oh! Naruto Nippon & Hagaren Housoukyoku - Takeuchi Junko, Seki Toshihiko, Paku Romi, Kugimiya Rie 10) Digimon Tamers (The Digimons...) - Digimon Christmas Medley 11) Ragnarok Online - Treasure Hunter 12) Matantei Loki Ragnarok - Mythical Channel 328 - 13 - Radio Short Story [shitamachi junbou monogatari - Simples Tales of Downtown] Part 2 13) Sylvain Cossette - J'veux t'taimer 14) Prince of Tennis - Atobe Keigo (Suwabe Junichi) - Rondo to Destruction (And special disc) - 11 - Stage 15) Matantei Loki Ragnarok - Narugami pension e youkoso (Welcome to Narugami's Boarding House) - 09 - Playboy Loki

4:14 am - Unfortunately, no success at disguising myself as a box this year.

But, on that random note, I realize that the Yaoi Pocky Box at Anime North this past year was quite successful. It's scary how many people wanted some of that stuff.

12:56 am - And while I'm still on the issue of translations and official stuff and all...
|
(it's really just spurned by my reading the forums and being mildly entertained by them. There's a mixture of amusement and exasperation at all those people)
No single translations are perfect. (I love my University teachers... This is one sentence I will /never/ forget. [Edit: I may, however, botch on the real quote and the possible grammar... I'm not too clear on this one yet. *should check his books*]) Honestly, some (some, not all) fan-translations /are/ better than so-called professional ones...... but the reason might be that professional ones have to be edited/adapted for an audience that won't necessarily understand what is being discussed. And it'd take way too long to explain every single little foreign cultural concepts that don't quite come with the target audience's cultural background. That or the so-called professional is a recent graduate and doesn't have as much cultural baggage (French/English-mixed term borrowed from on of my favorite teachers) as fans who have watched a truck-load of anime that the graduate hasn't.
.....And I'll get back to something I have /already/ mentioned before...... but I'd really rather just listen to the raws. There are things I don't like translating or finding equivalence for because it's just unique to the originating culture it was made from. I also like learning new things/terms/traditions/customs that I can only really learn if I look it up and then assimilate. It's a method that hasn't proved me wrong so far (except if I find false/inadequate informations) and I like it just fine.
On a different note, animes such as Rose of Versailles and Card Captor Sakura (Yes, yes. I like those shows. They're serious enough for me to like watching them.), I really wanna get in French dubs. Call it growing fond of certain voice actors the way many fanpeople become of this or that voice actor/seiyuu. That and in the case of RoV (which I used to know as Lady Oscar), it's a matter of sweet childhood memories. Of course, I also find that the translations (or rather adaptations in these cases) are closest to the real Japanese scripts than what the American community has brought out. .....Yes, I'm sorry, I am more leniant towards French dubs than English dubs... but I'm not getting in a discussion about dubs just yet. Too many kinks to work out.
.......When I think about it, this was mostly targetted towards anime discussion..... ......where's my manga discussion in this? *sweatdrops*

11:01 pm - Something to think about...
|
Currently, I'm reading this one article about AnimeJunkies VS Urban Vision... It's most interesting and I tend to believe that I agree w/ most of it... The one thing I can't do though is buy licensed DVDs that are being released here in North America (I'm mostly broke). That aside, I'd really rather buy the raw dvds directly from Japan when I get some dough... Even if I get LESS eps. (Also I can do w/o the option of having subtitles/english track. It's a good way to practice Japanese and I appreciate it most. [Translation: I won't start bitching about inaccurate/inadequate translations and such.])
There's just one thing I haven't seen mentioned anywhere in any of the discussion threads (AAN forum and AnimeSuki forum) that I'm wondering about... what of plain txt translations available online?
[Edit]
And what of Digimon, btw? I haven't heard a single thing about any licensing companies being willing to release it SUBBED for those that want the real thing instead of the dubbed version that is seen on tv (and is also available to purchase in Walmart and other popular stores). It's this one thing that bothers me mostly... Although...yes... Ronin Warriors was only available on TV before and is (after too many years) now available in both dub and subbed version on dvd. They even have the OAVs... ok, that I'm tempted to buy (mostly because I actually enjoyed the dub and I haven't checked to see if the Japanese DVD is available.)

Fine, so it was actually in downtown Ottawa instead of Hull, but... I noticed an interesting shop while some friends and I went out for a bit of fresh air.
There's this place called Blue Moon Videos...... and they sell, or is it rent out, pn0n movies.
That is all.

Yes, I felt like translating another song. I should really find where I could download the mp3s of it... This one's got a very nice melody and the song itself is nice to listen to.

2:52 pm - Nostalgia...
|
For some reason, I felt like translating this song. It's old.... very old... but it's a nice song... The melody is nice.... the song's subject... um.. I blame it on the fact that I was a child when I heard this song, because it's really only today (yes, April 4th) that I caught on what Joe Dassin was singing. o_O;;;; .....>_>;; It's still good... I could probably imagine a few fics with this, but I don't really wanna?
Artist: Joe Dassin Title: Il était une fois nous deux (Once upon a time, us two) ---
Remember, it was a thursday Remember, we had taken The path of lovers It was once upon a time, us two Remember, it was the big day The big step toward a great love It was better than that It was us two once upon a time
A motel by the dock's road A normal night Two customers, a sleepy guard With his newspaper He handed us each a key Told us: "good evening" That morning we had reserved separate rooms Unwilling to display our love At barely eighteen
Remember, it was a thursday Remember, we had taken The path of lovers It was once upon a time, us two Remember, it was the big day The big step toward a great love It was better than that It was us two once upon a time
We'd randomly chosen the 14th A bit shy And your dress slipped in the dark We loved each other Later when the garçon came Bringing us Two coffee with a knowing smile You hid yourself He didn't see that you were crying For the childhood that left
Remember, it was a thursday Remember, we had taken The path of lovers It was once upon a time, us two Remember, it was the big day The big step toward a great love It was better than that It was us two once upon a time
