House [29 Sep 2008|07:55pm] [ mood | disappointed ] Well, we went to see the house we will be renting and eventually might buy, on which the repairs were supposed to be almost done. It still looks like crap, I must admit I'm really really disappointed and almost wish we never told the landlords here the the apartment we were leaving. :/ The house could be great, but it needs a LOT of work, work which we both don't have time for and don't really know how to do. My boss apparently doesn't even want to replace all the windows (which he absolutely has to do because they are not at all properly insulated) and there is still a shoddy kitchen and bathroom. The dryer and washer will also absolutely have to be replaced, and possibly the fridge and toilet also. The land where I wanted to keep a horse also needs a ton of work and leveling, but that's another thing. Buh, emooo. I kind of wish we could back out of the whole deal, but deep down I know it's a big step forward and a Good Thing. I am just so not used to live in such.. erm, conditions. I've lived in worse, but that was a long time ago (out house and no indoor shower and all, but when you're a kid that doesn't really matter). And now, for that meme. Cards sent, etc [24 Sep 2008|09:25pm] [ mood | accomplished ] All the pathfinders decks (totem cards) that have been paid for have been shipped today, thanks to Drakkor. See, I'm doing this fun thing where I have to work for 2 weeks straight without a single day off in between. It finally cost more than I charged for shipping to actually ship them in most cases, but at least from Germany it was much cheaper than what I was quoted in Switzerland, and they were shipped priority so they should arrive sooner rather than later. Let me know when you guys get them, and whether everything is OK please! Tomorrow I have to do the water show at work and the water is 13 celcius = 55 fahrenheit. But soon. Sooon it's over. Then awesome lazy warm Florida times! I still haven't figured out if I want to come back here next year or not. There's the potential for a reasonable raise, but there is also the 99% chance that it will end up being much more work next season because all but one of the new trainers that are supposed to come.. well, don't know much and certainly cannot just jump in to do the water show, or even just the sea lion shows, probably. None of them have any significant sea lion handling experience, let alone show experience, and the new guy that is already with us now seems not very interested in anything but the dolphins, and even that.. Tough break, I guess he'll end up going anyway. This park/this field in general has no room for lazy people and people who don't want to be active in learning. So basically it'll be just one other girl and me in the water well into the season probably, until someone else gets good enough. And us two and Drakkor for the rest of the shows, again until someone learns. I don't know if the salary and experience is worth that much stress and being pissed off all the time. I was pretty sure until yesterday but now I'm flaking because my boss saw what I trained with my dolphin this year and she was all buddy buddy you have to train this stuff with the sea lions next year (ball balance in this case), you have to train other behaviors, etc. This is a much different tune than what she let on all of last season. Having what I have accomplished acknowledged feels good and I might get suckered in for another go. :P 9 comments|post comment

FC Dealers. Help! [02 Sep 2008|09:21pm] [ mood | aggravated ] Augh, I am trying to get my paperwork for the goddamn seller's permit for FC figured out since this year I got my own table. And... the FC website is ABSOLUTELY not helpful. They don't even give us the location address, we have to look up everything on google. The government's website is also utterly useless. They give NO information that I could find on what to do if you're not just out of state but from another country. And they ask for info like a copy of your driver's license. Which, hello, not everybody has. So, what, am I supposed to guess? Should I send them a copy of my (Canadian) passport? What do I do for a social security number? I obviously don't have an American one, and my Canadian card got stolen last year. What do I send along with the forms, and exactly where do I send them?? I hate this bureaucracy crap. Titty Dentata (otherwise known as EF con report) [01 Sep 2008|07:49pm] [ mood | missing someone ] Eurofurence was one word. Amazing. I have never made so much money at a con. Thank you for supporting me, guys! Those of you who know me know I worked hard, especially saturday night when I went to bed at almost 5am. And I was still turning lots of people down for sketches. I need to raise prices again a bit next year, for my own sanity. And thank you to Johnny for being there for me and keeping me fed and loved. He was such a big help. <3 Art show went without a hitch this year, auction was well organized, much much better than last year. I had one piece in the voice auction (Breathing Life LE print 1/5) but the rest of my work also sold pretty well. I thus bought two amazing originals from Dark Natasha. "Menagerie" (actually Johnny half paid for this as a gift to me <3<3<3) and "Getting ready for the race". Mmm, ponies. Honestly, almost all I did this con was work my ass off, but it was still very enjoyable. I was sandwiched between Ultraviolet and Johnny in the dealer's den, and that was full of sexy (and UltraViolation). Thanks to everyone who brought me food and drinks while I was chained to the desk, and thanks to whoever did not steal my shoes at the pool. I'm a spaz. Still had time to go out to dinner organized by Kandrel on Sunday night, to that wonderful Italian restaurant in town we went to last year. And I got to get drunk at the bar and dance after work was done (like 3am, ugh). People bought me many drinks at once, it was awesome, and then Bander and Johnny carried me out to the dance floor, which was even more awesome. Oh, by the way, I totally can't dance well, but it was still fun. Other stuff, too. My sketchbook is now in Unknown hands though, it's either still with Moostalker and Fluke, or with Dark Natasha who offered to take it for me and bring in to FC. Oh god I miss you guys so bad. So so bad. Please come to FC too, all my Euro people? I always get hit with a bad case of post con blues. Work is OK, same old same old. Got into a big argument with my boss because she wanted to not pay me for the days I was gone. Sorry, no, I will have to work off (or already have) these days. Finally managed to get all of this month's money thanks to her sister in law agreeing with me. Eurofurence! + new art [26 Aug 2008|09:58pm] [ mood | bouncy ] EF is tomorrow. *froths* Oh god this is the first year I don't have to stay up all night printing and framing shit because everything is done. drakkor did most of the work actually so huge thanks to him! But I am still stressed, what's up with that? I have 12 pieces in the art show this year, 8 originals and 4 limited edition prints (Look, I can count!). Two of which a friend of mine printed himself at work, on very high quality archival paper and they are mounted on aluminium plates. I have not seen these particular ones yet, but the one in this style I've seen looks absolutely kick-ass. Too bad I can't have this for my American cons now, shipping would suck any profit off. And this year we finally managed to make art CDs! So come get one in the dealer's den, they turned out great and have all my available art since 2001 plus all kinds of never before posted sketches and even a few color pieces that I'll also never post. Also, please, for the love of all that is good in this world, if you know you'll be commissioning me for a sketch or whatever at this con please please hunt me down tomorrow and do so then, when I still have nothing to draw, instead of all coming to ask the first day of the dealer's den when I take a certain amount and then have to start turning people down and telling them to come back the next day, etc. This is definitely a work con, but there is only a certain amount of hours into the night I am willing to work before I start partying with my friends and having a good time and being generally incapacitated. I hate my job [03 Aug 2008|08:05pm] [ mood | worried ] [ music | ska cubano - Istanbul (not Constantinople) ] So my boss said no for EF. Even though I offered they not pay me for that entire week which means I would work 3 days for free. I tried to argue a lot but no, she finally blew me off / told me to talk with her brother. So. Here we go. I will have to tell them I am going either way and they can fire me if they want to. :/ I don't really want to do that because while I'd often like to leave, I would like to leave on good terms so there's a possibility of coming back in the future when their employee situation improves. This also kind of really blows because I could get myself a big raise for next year if I came back. That, and I could not live with Drakkor anymore because I cannot stay here for long without a work permit, my ass would get deported. That's a really tough decision to be making, and it wouldn't fly for long. I need this convention, not just for the money (which is verrah nice), but for my emotional stability. I need to see my friends and I need Johnny to hold me and tell me I'm hot. There, I said it. :O He knows exactly what to say and do to make me feel incredible. I got a very welcome break when I went to Zurich on tuesday. drakkor and I had a nice walk around the old town and ate at an amazing bistro in the morning. Best dessert ever, we are definitely coming back there again. Then I met up with blue_panther in the afternoon (Drakkor had to work the rest of the day) for some art supply shopping. It was lovely, I finally had Starbucks twice after such a long time, but on the other hand my quest for mats was fruitless. Art stores don't have them, or if they do a sheet is like 16$. Wtf. I can just buy floatey frames and it'll be cheaper. But I got awesome new inking pens and worked on some art. I'm happy to say I survived the trip back home by train + bus just fine. So now I know that I won't get hopelessly lost even though I barely speak German. Things at work are still bleak, but looking up a bit recently. The sick dolphin still has to be caught twice a day, but lately she's coming to eat and doing a few behaviors, so we hope that soon she can be trained up to taking a tube again and we can stop catching her because she'll get water that way. Sorry I haven't been replying to emails much, there's just too many things going on right now. Eurofurence is still up in the air, I obviously need to go, but I am not sure how I should bring it up with my bosses. Diane 35 [03 Jul 2008|03:59pm] [ mood | sick ] Today has been spent next to my barf bucket. Dizziness, headache, you name it. Is there any birth control pill out there that doesn't have a boatload of negative effects? It seems like I got pretty much all of them with this one, and it's the first day. The doctor said it was a good one but looking at reviews online, like half of the women report depression and a loss of sex drive (Bwahahaha, now that would be the day, right?). That is totally not worth it. I wanted to take it because I've been getting excruciatingly painful periods lately. So now I either need another one or I need to cry like a wuss and stuff myself full of painkillers every month. Babies! Everywhere! [22 Jun 2008|11:54am] [ mood | hot ] [ music | infected mushroom ] We have a new baby dolphin. She still doesn't have a name, but the mom and baby are doing well. And my monster I mean sea lion Pinky is being a whorey whore and a few days ago started refusing to work and proceeded to jump into our functional male Mickey's pool (ok, we have another younger male, but he can't figure out how his sausage works). We managed to get her out but since it is a crime to cancel shows in this place I had to try to do the show with her again and again she jumped. The third time we didn't manage to get her out. And Mickey did his job. Watching sea lions do it is oddly hilarious. So now they are glued to each other, shit all over the stage, we can't put them in at night and the pool water looks like a swamp because we haven't been able to put chlorine in it with them there. But maybe we get a baby sea lion for next season? :D The temperature has been crazy hot here for the past couple of days (thankfully I am off today), doing the water show is great but doing the sea lion shows outside under such a sun is horrible. Oh, job [04 May 2008|11:45pm] [ mood | exhausted ] I did all three dolphin shows in the water today. The owner saw one and wanted a meeting. I was preparing myself to go down in flames but he said it was good. @_@ Then we grabbed a key from him and went to see a huge house we might be renting or possibly trying to purchase from him. It's really really old and in pretty bad condition. But it has tons of land and a huge barn where I could keep a horse or two or five (but unfortunately right now it's filled with junk from the park from decades past - including a circus roulotte). And an amaziriffic big kitchen. But did I mention huge fucking barn thinger. Oh, and it's got a gigantic creepy attic full of hundreds of chairs. And a rack in a room with what seems to be a lion fursuit on it. XD If we do say we want it, we'd technically be living in a trailer park because there are about 10 trailers parked in the "back yard" (ok, it's like a big field). Right now the internet is like this magical place I only look at once every few days. D: Now I go off to be DED. This proves that I am not quite as fit as I thought I was. 12 comments|post comment
