meme: Myers-Briggs [Jan. 31st, 2008|09:19 pm]

You Are An INFJ

The Protector

You live your life with integrity, originality, vision, and creativity.
Independent and stubborn, you rarely stray from your vision - no matter what it is.
You are an excellent listener, with almost infinite patience.
You have complex, deep feelings, and you take great care to express them.

In love, you truly see relationships as an opportunity to connect and grow.
You enjoy relationships as long as they are improving and changing. You can't stand stagnation.

At work, you stay motivated and happy... as long as you are working toward a dream you support.
You would make a great photographer, alternative medicine guru, or teacher.

How you see yourself: Hardworking, ethical, and helpful

When other people don't get you, they see you as: Manipulative, weak, and unstable

Hey, that's not a bad summary. but "alternative medicine guru"? Errrr, nope.

I see myself as a man with strong female qualities, but this meme-quiz put me as "neither."  Hmph!

event: LACMA awesome art book sale, Th 12/13 and Fri 12/14 12-4pm [Dec. 12th, 2007|02:35 pm]
[Tags|, ]

Did you know LACMA has a research library? Well, they do. It is open to the public by appointment, and materials don't circulate. They do what museum libraries do best -- serve the curatorial staff, provide information about items in the museum's collections, and help collectors research the art market.

This Thursday and Friday, December 13th and 14th from 12-4 p.m., the LACMA Research Library will be holding its first annual holiday book sale. The library will be selling materials from its ever-growing collection of art books, exhibition catalogs, and Christie’s and Sotheby’s auction catalogs. They will have what promises to be a large collection of new and used art books of all varieties, and the prices will generally be half of what you might find these books for used anywhere else.

in Croat, translates as "My dear, my penis is a mountain." This mistranslation of "You know my dear how we love your mountains" helped the Croatian soccer team beat England.  Or, as they say, England flops shafted by enormous todger.

Isn't language great?  As Krazy Kat says, language is what we use "that we may mis-unda-stend each udda."

new peccary! [Nov. 5th, 2007|07:43 pm]

New Species Of Peccary Discovered In Amazon

This species has been christened giant peccary (Pecari maximus) by the researchers on account of its size. The holotype of the species can be found in the museum of the Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas da Amazônia (INPA) in Manaus. The giant peccary was known by the local Tupi Indians as Caitetú Mundè, which means ‘great peccary which lives in pairs’.

interwebs, I love you so [Oct. 19th, 2007|09:37 am]
"The Radical Movement for Rebetiko Dechiotification and Bouzouki Detetrachordization claims for unity against :
  1. the imperialistic tyranny of the four-course bouzouki
  2. the subsequent indigestible syrtaki-like fake music served in oily greek restaurants
  3. occidental major scales and imported kitsch rythms
  4. interminable fat tremolos running along the neck and swooning german old biddies.
"The Radical Movement for Rebetiko Dechiotification and Bouzouki Detetrachordization unilaterally demands :
  1. the uncompromising rehabilitation of the trichordo bouzouki
  2. the closing of all restaurants dealing with breakable plates and electronic rythm machine
  3. zeimpekika se dromos sampach kai tsiftetelia se dromos kartsigar (mono)
  4. two-finger playing only, but with the soul, the guts and the balls (Markos-like)
"     FACTS

  1. Trichordo bouzouki provides a delicious open tuning (D-A-D), neither major, nor minor, allowing sweet oriental combinations. Four-course bouzouki (8 strings) is tuned D-A-F-C, like the 4 first strings of the poor occidental guitar. Tetrachordo bouzouki was obviously created to play greek rumba and turkish bolero.
This is injurious to our ears."
