April 21, 2007: In attempting to contact all the SG DiversiFICation Awards authors nominated, it occurred to me that a post specifically for people to contact me would be nice and if that post had comments screened, it would be even nicer. You need to ask me something, but don't want to do it in public? Or you just need to get hold of me? Here it is. Comments are screened and it's forward-dated so it should always be at the top of my LJ.

This is a post for everyone to contribute, not just me, so have fun and don't be shy or apologise for commenting when I don't know you.

Any Terran in authority: Gee, Ronon and Teyla are suggesting a solution to our problem that sounds a lot like so much religious nonsense or maybe magic. Following Clarke's Law, we're probably talking about some leftover Ancient tech. Let's go check it out at once. Thanks, guys.

Rodney's romantic interest du jour: You know, Rodney possessed/under alien influence/slowly losing his faculties may have been nicer, but the man I fell in love with is the sarcastic, impatient, insulting McKay that I'm glad we got back.

John (or Lorne or another American): Sure, McKay, you think your government is so tolerant, but President Hayes signed the Equal Marriage Rights Act into law a whole month before your supreme court made gay marriage legal in all Canadian provinces.

John to Rodney or vice versa: Wow, the really hot princess/priestess/warrior chick has a younger sister. Maybe we should introduce her to Ronon.

Person in charge of Atlantis: I really think that's a bad idea and I'm not going to let you talk me into it.
John or Rodney: Yeah, you're right. We can come up with something better, I'm sure.

You know what I want to do to TPTB at the SciFi channel and their whole "women aren't our demographic" thing? I want to get a whole bunch of female scifi fans to mail in (clean) pantyliners with something like "Age: 43, Gender: Female, I watch(ed) these every week: Stargate: Atlantis, Eureka, Stargate: SG-1, Battlestar Galactica, Star Trek: Enterprise, Star Trek TOS" etc. written on the pantyliner. Each one individualised to the specific fan and her fandoms-- and not just SciFi channel shows, but any SF show. Heck, even add "Movies I dragged my male SO/husband to: The Matrix, X-Men, Independence Day" and/or "(Comic) books I read" and other things. Just an overview of this particular fan and her fannish pursuits.

Was sorting through my fic index and ran across this thing, titled "The Trouble with M/M Slash" which was basically a chat log from, oh, a year or more ago. Thought I'd post it here for folks' amusement.

The start of something I've been batting around for a while.

Several websites have reported on this, but it hasn't hit all the mainstream press sites. Seems Amazon has been contacting publishers who have their print-on-demand books printed by Lightning Source or Lulu or the like and telling them they need to switch to Amazon's own BookSurge ( If they don't, their Buy button on their Amazon page will be turned off. )

So, there's this content strike, where people are supposed to forego posting posts or comments or anything this Friday, March 21. A lot of people are going, "Dude, we'll show them!" and others are comparing it to the one-day gas boycotts that do absolutely nothing. I went and commented to a poll by one of the "This is stupid" people and thought I'd post it here as well. ( Here goes. )

So there you have it. Am I going to strike? I don't know yet. But if I do, you won't be seeing me posting extra on the day before and after. And since it's my anniversary *and* Good Friday, like as not I wouldn't be posting much anyway.

This was over in the comments to the news post where LJ basically said, "Yeah, we didn't tell you the right way. Deal with it." It was in response to someone who didn't get why the loss of free accounts wasn't a good thing-- losing the 'freeloaders' and troublemakers. It's on the first page if y'all want to go read it in context, but I thought I'd post it here as well. ( So, here's what I wrote. )

Okay, now I'm seriously annoyed. Because the Superbowl ran over and I wasn't home, we recorded 35 minutes of post-game and 25 minutes of Frozen and didn't catch the last half and I just now sat down to watch "Don't Ever Change" and bad weather caused a loss in satellite signal, losing the last 20 minutes or so completely.

These are up against some stiff competition-- very excellent stories by some top-of-the-line authors. And these categories are just a handful of the ones in the competition. As well as fiction, there are categories for fanart, videos, and other multimedia in both SGA and SG-1 (and crossovers)-- something like 2400 entries total.

So go read the fic, gaze at the artworks and videos and other things, and then vote for the absolute best. Voting goes till March 3, but there's so much to read and view that I'd advise everyone to start early!

Don't just go vote for your favourite authors, artists, vidders, etc. Go vote for the best in the category.
