A Livingston Parish Council ordinance outlawing fortunetelling and soothsaying is unconstitutional, a federal judge ruled Tuesday.
A Wiccan minister, Cliff Eakin, sued the parish over the ordinance, asserting inspiration from the divine transmitted by a Wiccan minister should be treated legally the same way as a message from God transmitted to a congregation by a Christian minister.
Under the First Amendment, the government canât prohibit the expression of an idea just because society finds the idea disagreeable, according to the opinion by U.S. District Judge James J. Brady of the U.S. District Court for the Middle District.
Eakin said that a Wiccan who accepts a donation for telling fortunes, for instance, shouldnât be treated any differently from ministers or churches accepting tithes for passing on instructions on what they believe is Godâs will.
Brokaw just seemed to have to officially given up on enforcing the rules.
How would McCain have the federal government buy up bad mortgages from landowners and replace them with lower cost, fixed-rate mortgages, and simultaneously have a spending freeze?
When would Obama order military action? Do we know? Does he know? I don't know.
McCain answered questions more directly. Obama was too abstract.
Too little action plans, too much personal attack. This is the first debate I wandered out of at several points.
Justice has finally been served. Not that I believe the jury deliberately found him guilty based on the events of 13 years ago, but that Simpson himself laid the groundwork, by his own ego and actions, to land himself in the jail cell he has so deserved all these years.
Changed my LJ theme to a Skeleton Dance. The fall weather is beginning to manifest itself down here in San Antonio (which means that the daytime temps are going into the 80s. Yes, this is a big deal.)
Started some family calavera (painted skull) work last night. Some of my co-workers are asking whether last year's calaveras are going to re-appear in my holiday desk decorations; apparently they were a big hit. I love working for the Army.
