Calling All A2/Ypsi Designers, esp. College Students [26 Jul 2008|02:27pm]

Hello Everyone,
I'm in need of some assistance and thought I might ask the resourceful group here.

I'm starting an online independent press for eBooks (I live in A2 by the way) and am in need of a company logo for web & print use (and also for future use on printed book spines- a different small logo). This would be a project that would be excellent for a design student looking to build a portfolio with some logo work. I have the concept worked out and just need an artist who is willing to make it come to life with their spin.

This would be a pro-bono or very small amount of pay project. I've seen online where I can get a logo done for $99-299 for web and print use, but that's still outside of my budget for this startup indy press project.

Any design student/designer willing to exchange help with this logo to add to their portfolio work for Violet Phoenix Press, please contact me at: 4andrea_at_gmail_dot_com (so bots don't index my email). Please place in the email subject: Violet Phoenix or Violet Phoenix Press so it won't get spammed.

Thank you for your help!
Andrea

Bad feelings about this [26 Jul 2008|12:01pm]

astrology

[jcprockup]
My partner and I have been going through a "break."

She's got two really troubling aspects going on - Uranus conjunct the Ascendant and, in November, Saturn conjunct the Descendant.

I respect that she needs her freedom (I'm Aquarius, after all) and independence and all this, but I need some sort of assurance that me sticking it out will be worth it.

These aspects aren't easily weathered, and at the same time, I doubt seriously it will be easy at all. Every day she seems to get more and more disinterested, but I'm doing everything I can to make it work. I haven't told her about the aspects (she's not into astrology) so I know it's something she's doing on her own...

Leathermouth in AP [25 Jul 2008|11:27am]

[ music | Run For Your Life - The Beatles ]

I didn't scan these. I got it from ONTD, how embarrassing. XD

EDIT: Added another picture.

The scan )

"I remember being in the parking lot of a movie theater, crammed into the back of Vinnie's [Avarali, guitarist] Volkswagen and listening to the basis of something amazing," remembers Frank Iero, who was so wowed by Leathermouth's all-instrumental early demos that he literally willed himself into the noisy new Jersey hardcore band after another vocalist's audition fell through. Nevermind that Iero had another, slightly bigger group gaining momentum at the time: Between writing sessions for The Black Parade, the My Chemical Romance guitarist found time to practice, gig and demo new tunes with Leathermouth, who managed to keep their identity relatively guarded as their sound and lineup came together. "I originally wanted to keep Leathermouth anonymous," says Iero, "But playing live, it's hard to keep the secret unless you wear masks, and I wasn't into that--too hot. So I figured fuck it, let's not hide from something we life doing this much." The band's touring lineup includes guitarists Ed Auletta and Rob Hughes, bassist John McGuire, and MCR/Reggie and the Full Effect's own James Dewees on drums.. (Original members Avarali, Steve Oyola and Andrew Escobar have since formed a full-time band, March of Saints.)

Thanks to Iero's day job and a steady trickle of online buzz, Leathermouth have become one of punk rock's worst-kept secrets. Although you'd think the band's sound--rooted as it is in the black-hearted noise and nihilism of bands like Black Flag and Ink & Dagger--would've turned off more MCR fans than it's attracted. "Leathermouth is where I can vent about all the bullshit that makes me crazy," admits Iero, who adds that he's always been leery of promoting the band as an MCR offshoot. "Every emotion I'm not proud to feel, every situation that goes on in the day and age that we wish we could just bury. I like to sing words that make moms cover their babies' ears."

Leathermouth's first official album--a sweltering, lo-fi collection recorded over two years in a series of New York and New Jersey basements--has been in the can for months. Despite rumors of a (more than appropriate) Halloween '08 release on Iero's Skeleton Key label, he says he's still looking for the perfect home. "It just made sense to sign my band to my label at first," he says, "but then I thought about it, and I realized I hate promoting myself." Regardless of how or when Leathermouth's music makes it into stores, Iero plans to hit the road hard during MCR's current hiatus, starting this fall opening for Reggie and the Full Effect. Any fans expecting Leathermouth's live-and-lewd noise to carry over into The Black Parade's sequel probably shouldn't get their hopes up.

"There's no thought of MCR at all when writing Leathermouth songs," Iero explains. "Sometimes it's fun to throw everything you've done in the past out the window and just scream your guts out about setting girls on fire."

I can't believe they put Skeleton KEY. LOL.

"MCR INDIVIDUAL MASKS NOW FOR SALE

As you know, the limited edition coffin boxes of "The Black Parade Is Dead!" are sold out. They came with Day of the Dead-inspired masks designed by each member of the band, but you can now buy each mask individually by clicking here. Only 5,000 of these masks have been made, so there are only 1,000 of each band member's mask. Head over to the MCR store and pick 'em up."
-MCR MySpace Blog.

I don't know if the links work, but the masks are in the MCR store. Check 'em out.

Individual Masks: $30
Bundle of Four: $100

Warner just keeps those surprises a' comin'.

Even if Mercury isn't quite at 28 degrees in a mutuable sign such as Pisces, Virgo or Sage, can this be considered an Aries point? I mean it's just off of 28 degrees by a few minutes. The casual orb is 4 degrees for an Aries point.

What can you say about this synastry chart? Do you see any potential? :p I've heard Aries-Scorpio relationships can be dangerously intense, but the rest of the aspects in this chart, such as the Moon/Venus in 7th house + Venus/North Node conjunction just make it...BAM!, if you know what I mean.

Thank you very much for your time.

Twins and Archers? [25 Jul 2008|10:04am]

[ mood | pessimistic ]

Any tales of Gemini / Sagittarius romance – Good, Bad and/or Otherwise? Sag is one sign I’ve never dated, so never had cause to look up the compatibility. I met a Sagittarius. We like each other, so I looked it up. It was not promising. In fact, it may have had worse things to say about the pairing than Gemini / Capricorn, and I ignored those warnings multiple times to indulge in the evil trap of goat/twins chemistry. I never knew until last night that Sagittarius was also a dual sign. I think I could probably overlook everything else except for this. The room is never big enough for 2 Jeckyll and Hydes, hence why I never go there with fellow Gemini’s anymore. But, in a way, it sounds like dating a Sag would be pretty much the same thing as dating a Gemini? One thing it did say was if a Gemini and Sagittarius were going to go there, they might as well do it long distance to prolong the inevitable. This situation would be long distance.

Anyway, I guess I’m looking for real life examples of romance between the twins and the archers. I know of none myself to compare these scathing words to. also, I don’t have a chart yet, and certainly no one else’s, so I will settle for a vague outlook.

Neptune on an Angle [25 Jul 2008|11:40pm]

astrology

[yuffchan]
[ mood | curious ]

Hello! I've been interested in Astrology for some time and have consulted several sites and books regarding Neptune on an angle, specifically on the Ascendant.

I've read texts that state that Neptune on an Ascendant gives the native "psychic" abilities etc...I've also read that people with this aspect specifically have a hard time with personal identity or they seem to feel as if people don't see them for who they are.

I've also heard that people with this aspect can also pertain to the mother having a hard time with the pregnancy. My mother told me that she was bed-ridden for 3 months when she was pregnant with me because she bled when she stood up.

My Neptune is conjunct my Sagittarius ascendant and is also square my MC. It is also exactly at my Sun/Moon Midpoint. My Sun is in Libra in the 10th house and Moon is in Aquarius in the 3rd house.

Any thoughts on this aspect?

Another Synastry Question [24 Jul 2008|11:23pm]

[mulukchuwen]
When one person's natal Venus is conjunct one person's natal Saturn in one sign, and the other person's natal Venus is conjunct their natal Saturn in a complete (just by a chance), I know that this is some kind of a double-whammy for an aspect, but is a good or bad double-whammy? I'm also open to hearing about any other planets that are similarly aspected like this. I have a feeling that that's kind of odd -- maybe a like a one in a million chance or something.

You may have heard that there is a movie due out 2009, an adaptation of Watchmen (which Gerard has sited as one of his favourite comics of all time). I just read on the MTV website (I get google alerts because I have a life) that My Chemical Romance are going to add to the sound track doing a cover of Dylan's classic Desolation Row.
