2:10 am - WTF?
|
Me, posting on my LJ? Calumny and lies!
Well... for some reason I just really felt like posting.
So it's been well over a year since I last posted. What's happened since then... well, lots of things that most anyone who actually reads this already knows, haha. I suppose that instead of redundantly summing up over a year, I'll just say what's been happening lately.
Held a small Brawl party(well, not so much a party as a few people coming over to play Brawl) yesterday(well, Thursday, but I've only slept for one night since then so it's yesterday to me), because it was the first time I could get most everyone together(and because everyone else was out of the house). It was fun. Besides Brawl there was also some FFT multiplayer with Chofi. I have to do more of this FFT multiplayer stuff, it's pretty fun. I don't think my team's broken enough, I mean, I actually had a character get KOed during one battle(though, the Chantage brought her right back come her next turn!). Unfortunately I didn't get any really cool items. I was hoping for Brigand's Gloves but did not get them. At least I did manage to walk away with a couple more Excaliburs(though I'd rather not have to use Excaliburs on my swordskillers... it's so much more efficient if I have an accessory to do the auto-haste thing(ie, the Brigand's Glvoes), and then be able to equip a shield and save my support ability slot for Attack Boost to increase my damage output...
So, of course I've been playing Brawl and some FFT lately(though FFT has somewhat fallen by the wayside since all that there's left to do in it is multiplayer and statmaxing). Also, just picked up Samurai Warriors 2 Xtreme Legends. So far I've only really played as Maeda Toshiie and Sasaki Kojiro. Still have lots of 5th weapons to get too. I do think the series is definitely taking a step forward with this new orb thing you can use to customize your weapons, it definitely makes things more enjoyable because the number one thing I hate in the Musou games is trying to find good weapons/items/whatever.
Also playing Utawarerumono, but playing it makes me realize how much my Japanese has atrophied in the past year. Luckily the game's fully voiced so I can still understand what's going on because my listening comprehension is still good, but if it weren't voiced I wouldn't have a clue because my kanji memory has gone to shit.
Anyway, that's it for now.

2:37 am - Dead Tired.
|
I am le tired.
It seems I've become more of an insomniac since school started. Sakura Taisen is a definite part of the reason too.
Speaking of SakuTai, it makes me feel old. The last time I actually played through a SakuTai game was in high school since I somehow ended up forgettnig about Atsuki Chishio Ni until now. Given that Atsuki is a remake of the first SakuTai game, it just serves to make me feel even older... It also makes me REALLY want a remake of SakuTai2, since that one was possibly my favorite SakuTai game.
It also makes me feel old since, back when I was young and in high school playing the older SakuTai games, I needed to have a full translation sitting at my side at all times. But I don't have a translation guide for Atsuki... I've been going through it mostly on my own ability and doing pretty well. Maybe I should take this as a sign that my Japanese isn't as god-awful as I thought it was.
I have to get SakuTai5, now that I think about it.
And I also really want to get Utawarerumono. And My-HiME: the Another. And I think there's a Shakugan no Shana game too, which I'll have to get. My avatar is Shana for a reason, after all.
I haven't imported this many games since the Saturn era, back in the days of Shining Force 3 and SakuTai 1 and 2. Haha, whenever I go on a big importing spree, SakuTai is always a part of it... but the series really hasn't been doing as well recently... I really hope they keep it going, since SakuTai is a big part of the reason that I started learning Japanese... it was also the second game I ever imported... well, third technically, but the first two were both parts of Shining Force 3... so I count them as one... Anyway, yeah. SakuTai is too good.

I swear, once I have the technology, I WILL GO BACK IN TIME, AND TERMINATE WHOEVER COINED THE TERM "SHMUP". Disgusting word.
Also, once I have the technology to do it all at once, I WILL TERMINATE ANYONE WHO EVER TYPES "COULD OF" OR "WOULD OF" INSTEAD OF "COULD'VE" OR "WOULD'VE". They're basic contractions! This is elementary level English people! It's not that hard!

4:19 am - Update.
|
School started. I go to school to watch movies. That's all I have to say on that subject.
Finally, FINALLY finished Magna Carta. It got really good towards the end, though getting there was somewhat of a hassle at times. Now I'm working on SakuTaiAtsuki at long last. I hope to get Utawarerumono soon, that'll hopefully be my next game after SakuTai.
I'm a bit unhappy right now. Part of it is, predictably, that school started up. The rest... well, I won't say here.
Since I am very tired, I will KO now.

3:40 am - I blame Sean.
|
I blame Sean for this update. He likes bothering people on their blogs, it seems.
Nothing much to post on though. Playing Magna Carta, Castle Shikigami 2, and Gradius V. Magna Carta is a good RPG with extraordinarily pretty art because Hyung-Tae Kim is amazing. Castle Shikigami 2 and Gradius V are good shooters. Gradius is notable for being Gradius. On the other hand Castle Shikigami is mainly notable for having the best script ever in history(well, besides the fact that it is a good shooter). Yes, better than even the legendary Zero Wing. I mean, you beat the fourth boss with a certain team of characters(can't remember off the top of my head...) and she says "That's a violation! They don't have cars!" It's too good.
Currently addicted to Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu on the anime front. Haruhi is very pretty and very cool.
There really aren't enough cute girls with bladed weapons in the world. This is a serious issue that needs to be corrected. Girls + bladed weapons = <3.
I'm tired. I think I'll go to sleep soon.

3:33 am - *Yawn*
|
What to say, what to say... I'm tired. I feel tired a lot these days. I don't know why.
Hmm. I suppose there's more to say; it has been over a month since I last posted. Well, that's normally a short time gap for me, but whatever.
I got Phoenix Wright for my DS, and played through it. Currently going through it a second time, since it's just a really cool game in general. Has a lot of purely classic moments. Really, you cross examine a parrot. You don't get much more golden than that.
Also been playing Wild Arms: Alter Code F. Brings back lots of memories of the original Wild Arms. ACF is a rather good remake. The encounter rate is rather high, but it gives you a way to cancel random battles without ever entering them. That is a good point, but the issue becomes cloudier once you take the existence of the Grow Apples into account. See, the Grow Apples are these random enemies that appear anywhere on land on the world map. They run away on their first turn. When you kill them(and they have 1 HP so you always OHK them) they give you experience equal to 1 less than the damage you did to them. Then there're the Mega Grow Apples, which appear on the sea on the world map. They're incredibly fast(for the vast majority of the game it's impossible to kill them unless you have Jack use his Accelerator ability to make him automatically go first), and, like their little brothers, run away first chance they get. If you kill THEM, you get experience equal to 1 less than the damage you did TIMES 10. Thus, you do 500 to them, and you get 4990 experience.
The reason why I think ACF's whole battle thing might be a bit off is because the existence of the apples make fighting normal random battles almost completely not worth it unless you're trying to complete the game's monster catalog, steal an item from a particular enemy, or are actually hunting for Grow Apples. There's just not enough incentive to fight normal battles... and to me that is bad, because when you are forced into normal battles(generally only when you're ambushed or your encounter cancel gauge runs out), it alwasy feels like a chore.
I'm also getting the feeling that the game might be too easy later on, because I've already encountered a few character abilities(Jane's Follow Me, Rudy's Gatling Raid) that feel too powerful. We'll see.
I kinda feel like taking a break from Yu Gi Oh. I'm getting tired of the way things always go for me. By all accounts, I should be able to make top 8 fairly consistently at regionals... I mean, I can fairly consistently beat Rob, who consistently wins regionals. I seem to have the ability, but for some reason things just never go my way and I always lose to random rogue decks or bad luck or whatever. It's starting to get frustrating... though I think I take it a lot better than Henry, who's been getting very outwardly angry whenever he loses these days.
If I say anything more here it'll become a serious post, and I can't have that. Besides, all my supposed problems are most likely just me thinking too much anyway. Not really worth hearing about. Better to just make posts on inane topics...

1:01 am - "V!" is for "Victory!"
|
WTF, 2 posts from me within one week? Wasn't that outlawed in the Geneva Convention?
So Greg's had a special Christmas Eve tournament. I made it to finals then split the prize since I only wanted the playmat anyway(and since Sean really wanted to leave). I was kinda afraid that I wouldn't get the mat, I mean, I had to play against Anthony in top 4... but, well, somehow I 2-0ed him. I am invincible. That's right.
Waiting a week between each episode of Shana sucks. This might just be the second series I start watching raw... The first, BTW, was My-HiME
Speaking of My-HiME, I've been watching its followup(NOT sequel), My-Otome. Lately I've heard a lot of people going on about how awesome the series is. However, since I'm not watching raws and I'm following Static-Subs's releases, I'm always a little bit behind on Otome... so I didn't really understand why people liked it so much.
After seeing episode 10, that all changed. That episode was simply amazing. It made me look very forward to episode 11 a lot... But, of course, episode 11 was a much more plain episode. Definitely a disappointment after episode 10. Still, this raises my hopes for Otome quite a bit. Who knows, maybe I'll start watching it raw too. WTF, two shows that I might start watching raw in one season. This is truly a good season for anime.
Yeah, another useless post talking mostly about anime...

12:26 am - Still alive!
|
Hey, I haven't posted here in quite some time... well, what to say, what to say. Hmm. Been playing Shining Force Neo in my spare time. It's a really good game, very underrated. My only real complaint about the game is its unforgiving, malicious, and often frustrating level of difficulty. I mean, sure, I don't mind a challenge, especially since it's so rare to find one in games these days, but this game just doesn't even allow a single mistake against some of the later bosses. Really, one wrong move and you die in one hit.
Though I say the difficulty level is frustrating, it's not quite bad enough to make me stop playing. On the contrary, usually it actually keeps me playing because of the feeling of accomplishment from beating the ridiculous odds the game puts against you. Overall, SFN definitely meets my approval. It may not be a "true" Shining Force game, but it certainly still is a good one.
On the anime front, I am currently obsessed with Shakugan no Shana. See my avatar? That's from Shakugan no Shana. I got into it in the same way I get into most anime these days. This method goes as such: I download the first episode to test the waters, and if I like it or at least feel there is potential, I download the rest. In the case of Shana, I didn't even watch the whole episode before pausing it to start getting all the other available ones. I watched JUST the opening sequence, and that was enough for me to tell that this would be a winner. Yes, the opening sequence was really that impressive. The sequence fit perfectly with the song(which is my current music, running on repeat, by the way), the song itself was good, and the animation of the sequence was very well done. Also, it had a girl with a sword, and as we all should know, when it comes to me, girls + weapons = <3.
The show itself is actually quite good too, which is a plus.
Well, I don't really feel like typing more right now, so I'll cut this off here and maybe get back to it. It is going up now though, so I can say that I have actually posted on my LJ within the past 4 months(ha, as if I really care. ^_^).

1:35 am - Random inane bits
|
After seeing some more of Basilisk, I've decided that I really don't hate Oboro so much. I also decided that I like Akeginu about as much, if not more, than Hotarubi, so for it's actually hard to say which one's my favorite female character. With that and my newly reduced hatred for Oboro, I have to say I'm enjoying Basilisk more now. Can't wait for more...
Star Ocean 3 is owning me right now, so I'm actually not spending most of my time watching anime right now. It's been a while since there's been a game that could really do that. Not even Dynasty Warriors 5 could hold me that much... though that might have to do with some lingering anger toward DW4 resurfacing.
This Saturday there's going to be a special Yu Gi Oh tournament where a box of DB2 is the prize. Need to decide whether or not I want to take my new cookie cutter deck or my special tournament deck. Though the special deck has had much success in the past, part of its success lies in its surprise factor, and some of the people who'll be there know about it already. Oh well, regardless of which deck I use I should be able to win assuming my luck is decent.
Maybe I should try writing interesting things here again, this is pretty boring even to me.

Basilisk has two major problems that are keeping it from being my definite favorite anime of this season.
The first is that one of the coolest, most interesting characters is also one of the first to die. This is probably a less major fault than the second in the long run, but it is certainly my second biggest complaint about Basilisk.
The more major fault is that I don't believe I've ever hated a main character as much as I hate Oboro from Basilisk. Oboro is easily the most fucking dense, stupid, slow witted character I've seen in a LONG time. Actually, I can't even remember any other character more moronic than fucking Oboro. I mean, even fucking Goku from fucking DBZ is a more tolerable main character than fucking Oboro.
I need to watch more Bakuretsu Tenshi. Hopefully the fanservice will calm me some.

4:56 am - Random Rambling
|
It's really what I do best. I don't think I'm particularly good at focused thought; I'm very scatterbrained and I'm incredibly absentminded. At least, I think I am. I find myself having trouble focusing on anything for more than a short amount of time...
My usual nature is to blindly deny that anything's wrong and forget about it, and I'm normally very good at doing that. It probably comes from that scatterbrained nature of mine. If I can forget it once, I can normally keep forgetting and forgetting and never get to actually dealing with whatever comes my way. I always say to never underestimate the power of blind denial, and I suppose I'm really the model example. Blind denial of problems is normally the only thing that keeps me going.
So when something that I can't just blindly deny and forget about comes along, I start to lose it. Focusing seems to be anathema to me. Every time I have had a mind-consuming problem in the past, things have gone the same way. First my natural defense mechanism kicks in and I spend some time trying to forget about the issue. Failing that, I start to think. Now, as previously stated, I don't have a good history with focused thought. Once I realize that I am unable to simply evade something, I start to think a lot. Unless I can come up with a quick, easy fix, I keep thinking until I eventually give in and try talking about it to people, generally seeking advice. Of course, normally that's the sign that I'm already losing it and it's really too late to stop me from breaking down. Sometimes it isn't, but usually not long after I start talking to everyone about something I explode. And then after that I deal with the new unfixable situation by forgetting about it. After enough time, I settle back down and resume the cycle until another big thing comes along.
I think I need to stop thinking. That would be best for me. If I didn't have to think, I wouldn't have to care about anything. I miss the days when I could get away with being apathetic about everything.
Take that as you will. It's a sort of look into the way my mind works. In the end though, it's probably also just a pile of random ramblings from a tired person whose brain is dead at the moment from insomnia. Who knows. Time to try sleeping again.
But I am le tired.
