"Red Rain" - Peter Gabriel |
] |
As I turned from Highway 50 this afternoon driving back to Denver, I looked south to see plumes of smoke billowing from the forest southeast of my hometown. Another summer, another forest fire close to home.

"The Great Beyond" - R.E.M. |
] |
Priceless. An email from my friend Michael:
Last night on Nickelodeon was the tenth aniversary of All That and to celebrate they had a lot of the original cast on the show. Kennan and Kel were there to reprise their beloved roles of Coach Kretin, and Super Dude amoung others. The very annoying and very guidoesque kid with dark hair and pale face, who always took his acting directions from a bootleg copy of "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective." The charming and baneful little girl who played Ross Perot and Roseanne Barr with the help of prosthetics and raw talent. Also in attendance was that firery waif Danny Tamberrielle clicking his (now) morbidly obese heals together.
That clicking, although joyful to the heart gave way to a sadness as I realized 'twas a hole in the happy gathering on television, and that was quite literally so, the beautiful, boxom Lori Beth Denberg, equally as fiery as Danny and equally (to the 12 power) as obese was not in attendance at All That's momentus reunion. Lori Beth Denberg, or LB Den, as she was once fondly named had a way with the camera that could only be put as "breathtaking" Sashaying, hither and dither with a turkey in her hands, speaking bluntly to an audience from across a card board desk, and playing straight man to a fantastically large ear of corn were the Highlights of her wild but brief 6 year contractual tenure on Nickelodeon's All That. Despite all of the joy and laughs bestowed upon me by "All That's 10th Anneversary Special," I still felt the vast and cavernous flower patterned hole left by none other than LBD.
I'll always remember you Big Mama, flow back to the sea...

| It Is Finished |
[27 Apr 2005|06:28pm] |
Six months of interviewing, transcribing, reading, analyzing, and writing, have all led to this moment.
36 single-spaced pages, 13,644 words.
My thesis is complete.
The whole day had a kind of "graduation" feel to it. The sage-like advice of Aaron Brown at my internship, the appreciative farewells of the staff, the conversations with the apartment brokers, and taking these pieces of paper, placing them in a notebook, and closing its black leather cover.
The end of another day.

In the span of one upcoming month, there are new CDs from Coldplay, Dave Matthews Band, and Ben Folds, to be followed at an undetermined time and date by a new posthumous Johnny Cash album.
I suppose that says a lot about the eclectic way I live.

Because I work at CNN and often see the hosts of shows, I perpetually have this daydream of sharing an elevator with Larry King wherein he turns to me and says, "We'll go now to Roger in New York, New York... hello?"

Perhaps the favorite feature of my iPod is that it always seems to know what I'm doing, and plays a song appropriate for the occasion.
Like this morning, when I was wandering the aisles of K-Mart looking for shower curtains, and it began to play "Bad to the Bone."
