Fuck.

You know that band I've been trying to remember the name of for like THREE YEARS but couldn't. The one whose tape I had in high school and listened to all the fucking time.

No, you don't because I have been suffering in silence on this one.

Anyway, it was Ultra Vivid Scene. I just remembered today.

Their albums are all up on eMusic. I am going there now.

Also, I got D.X. Ferris' book about Reign In Blood, and I have to read it.

I have a busy night.

More of the Lowery Collection is up at 2000 things.

Hey, I don't know if you guys read my other internet business 2000 Things or not, but I've started updating it a little more regularly an I'm about to start posting anatomical drawings of insects done by a college student in 1947. If that's not the kind of thing you want to waste 1 or 2 minutes looking at, then I'm not sure what to tell you. Also, if you haven't downloaded that "Ghostbusters" song by Early "B" that I put up, I think you have, like, 24 more hours in which to do so. I mean, if that's the sort of thing you wish to do .

Maybe one day I will write about actual things on this thing. Rest assured that I am doing fine and that I think you are awesome.

AN INTERNET FIRST!!! [Jul. 6th, 2008|05:15 pm]
I was sitting around the house looking at all the records I had and thinking, "man I'll bet someone else would like to listen to some of this crap."

And then I though: "Why not use the internet as a way to share music!"

I mean, it's pretty much genius, and I think that once I start doing it, there's going to be probably a couple dozen people putting music up on the internet for other people to "download" and listen to on their own listening devices. This concept probably blows your mind, but believe me, in ten years or so, everyone will be doing it.

So, I'm going to let you guys share the song "Ghostbusters". Awww, man, everyone knows that song. Ray Parker, Jr. is awesome. BUT WAIT. This is "Ghostbusters" by Early "B" on Black Solidarity Records. Other than "appropriating" the "I ain't afraid of no ghost" bit, this has nothing to do with the popular version. I really can't stand this type of reggae, but when I previewed this record at Kurt Wood's record sale, I barely made it past the "Lorrrrrrrrd-a-merrrcy" part before Devlin and I looked at each other and he said "Looks like you're buying a reggae record". He was right.

Disclaimers follow:
I don't know how to use any of the software that cleans up records and makes the songs sound like they didn't get recorded from vinyl. I am not Early "B" or a representative of Early "B". I make no claims to the copyright of the extremely original idea of a song about some "Ghostbusters", especially this one. I think this file will be up for like a week or something, so get it while it's, um, extant.

Do you like Jesus Christ?

Do you like heavy metal bands from Poland?

Do you like grindcore bands with awesome names?

Then you, my friend, may like a band called No Return to My Vomit.

You are welcome.

Hey, I am apparently just doing all kinds of cool kid shit all over the internet tonight, and I just went and got me one of them twitter things. Maybe you should be my friend or contact or whatever in the hell they call people who are linked by the internet on that website. I might give up on this in a couple of hours, or I might not. Let's find out together. I still do not fully understand this...

That ol' Leonard requested in his journal that I do the following:

"List seven songs you are into right now. No matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they’re not any good, but they must be songs you’re really enjoying now, shaping your spring. Post these instructions in your blog along with your 7 songs. Then tag 7 other people to see what they’re listening to."

So, I am going to do this. I am afraid that the songs I list are, in some cases, going to be in some way kid-related. Not like "music for children (Raffi, et al)", but songs my kid wants to hear like all of the time, so if you do not like reading people write about their children, you may want to know this ahead of time.

1. Krokus - Our Love
As shown in a previous entry, the Human Child is sort of fixated on the clear vinyl 12" promo single of "Our Love" that was given to me by a co-worker. Planning the recent trip to Alabama, and knowing that the kid would be in the car for like 495 hours, I put the "clear record" on the iPod (actually, I put the entire album "The Blitz" on there, but we're focusing on "Our Love" here...) and we listened to it over and over. The lyrics to this song are awesome. There's this one part where Marc Storace says "We both like foolin' around", which got repeated quite a bit down in old Ozark Alabama this weekend.

2. Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass - Spanish Flea
I could really tell the same story about this song as above, minus the clear vinyl and the Swiss people. Also, there's nothing in this song about anyone's enjoyment of "foolin' around". You should see the kid dance to this song, though. He totally tears it up. If he's not asking for the Clear Record (or the "Yummy Yummy Song" which would be The Ohio Express' "Yummy Yummy Yummy" or "Rain", which is Slayer's "Raining Blood"... I have a well rounded child...) He's asking for "Panna Fee" Which means "Spanish Flea" but my kid cannot speak English too good. I'll also mention that even though Whipped Cream and Other Delights gets all the press, if you're in the market for a Herb Alpert record, Going Places (or, to be punctuationally correct about it, !!Going Places!!) is, without question, what you want.

3. Enslaved - Havenless
I know adjectives implying destruction are totally overused when people are talking or writing about metal songs, but even having admitted that I have no other way to describe this song but "crushing". This is possibly because I am not a very good writer, but possibly also because this song, well, is. This thing makes me think of glaciers and fjords. Neither of which I have ever seen in real life, but you know... You try listening to this and not thinking of that. The part near the end, after the solo, when the main riff comes back in and the chanting vocals come back makes me wish I knew more than like 4 adjectives. It is good.

4. The Smiths - Still Ill
The one with the harmonica intro. That junk gets in my head and just stays there. It's all "Whee-uhwheeeee-wha-wha-wunt-wunt-wah-wee-wunt...." You know what I'm talking about.

5. Rhapsody - Dawn of Victory
This album (also called "Dawn of Victory" is one of the best metal albums ever. I mean, it may not be "kvlt" or "br00tal" or any of the tough-guy miz-spellengz that metal dudes use to look spooky scary, to admit such a thing, but this song really gets the ol' blood pumping. Also, the solo is just amazing, which is probably what you'd expect from Luca Turilli, but the rhythm guitar beneath that solo is something you should totally concentrate on.

6. Christopher Cross - Ride Like the Wind
Fuck you, yes I am serious, and this isn't in some ironic, "soft rock is so bad it is totally awesome" way. The first Christopher Cross record (and yes, it is the one with "Sailing" on it) is really good. Also, the guitar solos on this reocrd are just weird. If you could isolate them from everything else going on they would sound not at all out of place on an L.A. metal album from the late 80's / early 90's. All sorts of scales and finger-tapping going on. Oh, and Michael McDonald's totally singing backup on this...

Jenks "Tex" Carman - Hillbilly Hula
I know nothing about this dude except that this song is on an old-timey Western Swing comp I have and it is one of the craziest things I have heard. There's this weird stuttering Hawaiian / country guitar and these nasal, completely unintelligible vocals which I think are in English, but who they hell knows, and I want to listen to it like 45 times in a row.

Okay, now YOU do it...

I have an external hard drive that is all sort of jacked up. It won't mount. There's some data on there that I want and stuff and so I was wondering if anyone reading this knew anything about data recovery. I know it can cost money, but the data on here is mostly music and if it comes to it, I can always just go get the CDs from the garage and load 'em up, but maybe you guys can help?

I have run the Mac Disc Utility thing and I get an error message. I do not care if I can salvage the drive, I just want the data basically...

Fixed with the help of Mandy, because Mandy is awesome!

* Does Apple make it stuff out of white plastic because they know that most of the people who use their junk are humans and sometimes have like not fresh-out-of-an-autoclave hands and then they look at their white or used-to-be-white keyboard and are all like YIKES, I am gross, and then start thinking about maybe they need to buy a new laptop because theirs is turning kind of grey a little bit on some of the more commonly used keys? Because that may be happening in this house right now.

*I was trying to write something...anything...earlier and it did not work. I was maybe going to write something about Iron Maiden and the music-is-the-tool-of-the-devil craze of the 80's but it just didn't work, you know. Apparently my ability to italicize things does work, though, so you may want to get used to that. Anyway, here's the thing: my mother is a wonderful person, but she totally got swept up in the whole Music-is-going-to-make-your-kid-kill-him/herself movement for a while and I had to throw out some tapes. I lost M.O.D.'s "U.S.A. for M.O.D." (did Billy Milano realize the rest of the dudes were joking?) Guns N' Roses Appetite for Destruction, Anthrax's I'm the Man, Pink Floyd's the Wall (in retrospect, maybe I should thank mom for that one....) a couple of Dead Kennedys tapes (of course) and I can't remember what else because Mom went to a lecture in a church basement. I realize now that this is totally not the type of lady my mom is, but she had some business of her own going on at that time that may have influenced her and this was her way of...whatever... but still...I talk to ther occasionally about this and I'm always bringing up the fact that this instance sort of pushed me to find "worse" stuff.

Anyway, I don't know the point of writing all that, but did this happen to you?

Again, I tried to write a coherent "piece" about this and my feelings Re: it, but I FAILED.

*I have been looking at stuff on the internet and the end of my index finger is sort of hurting from using the fucking trackpad on my laptop. This is the nerdiest injury you can have. I am reminded of Drew Weing's Journal Comic in which the phrase "chafed to Hell from mousing" was used. If I were not lazy I would search the internet and see if I could find that comic. I have installed a USB mouse.

Here's the comic I was talking about.

*Virgil's Black Cherry Cream Soda is awesome. Also, the man on the label (Virgil?) looks kind of like the aforementioned Drew Weing with a beard.

*I have definitely gotten about 600% dumber since I graduated from college.

*Let's play that game where you leave comments and ask me questions about stuff. I will then answer them, if I feel like it. There are no losers on the internet!

*This is what I look like right now. I'm sorry.

*Go buy both volumes of the DC Comics Showcase collections of The Legion of Super-Heroes. They kick any other super-hero comic book's ass. I just read the story where the Super-Moby Dick of Space poisons Lightning Lad's lightning and fires it back at him and makes him have to have his right arm amputated. AWESOME. He gets another arm, by the way. It is a robot arm.

*My Wife is home, so I am going to stop typing and talk to her because I like her more than I like you. And I LOVE you...

Up the Irons!

Man, I ain't had shit to write about on the internet lately, so, you know, sorry and all that. I'm sure you were all on the verge of stabbing yourselves waiting for me to type some words. Put the knife down! Here I am!

I mowed the lawn, which was a pretty gargantuan undertaking. I think there are some photos of that business, but you can just wait for my Wife to post them, because I'm sure she will in the next like five minutes or something.

The Finals of the national Spelling Bee are on ABC this year at 8:00 PM Friday night. You do not want to miss this. For real.

I had a nice 3-day weekend, and we went to Devlin and Mandy's house at one point and Tommy was sitting in Devlin's lap and it was so cute except that Tommy was basically shitting the whole time and the Wife and I had to deal with a poo-splosion in their bathroom. Never let it be said that Mandy and Devlin are not gracious hosts. They are the BEST.

Our back yard looks totally good. You want to hang out in it.

I went to see a couple of death metal bands, and like 30 people showed up. It was equal parts awesome and ridiculous. You know, like death metal itself...

I do not know what to write about. Suggest a thing and I will write about it. This is true. I will do this.
