"Las Vegas was a city unlike any other. It was built by gangsters and thieves, funded by sin, and built on the corpse of the fallen. The shady underworld of the strip was just that, built underneath in unmapped secret tunnels that allowed security and money to travel safely underground.

But as each casino was torn down and rebuilt, new tunnels were created, sometimes sealing older tunnels, or joining with them. No records were ever kept of the vaults, secret rail lines or passageways.

The chaotic underground tunnel system became known only as “The Dark”."

The governments tried to keep the populace subdued, discrediting papers and mocumentaries showing the dangers of unregulated research flooded the screens; but as communities started to produce their own power and medicine, more people looked behind the curtain to see the control mechanisms for what they were.

In the Arcology towers it was easy to see who was tinkering with electronics, power readings and bandwidth scopes relayed every piece of approved information accessed. But outside the Arks, there was no way to keep the unlicensed from gaining access to the licensed or classified info.

Magnetic bombing of badland communities and illegal fringe-town “libraries” erased unshielded data, but the Military burnouts who returned from the desert wars had been trained far too well against data loss, and like the internet, the process of education grew beyond their control. Books can be burned, Ideas suppressed, data erased, and movements destroyed; yet somehow the data seeds survived, sprouting new hope with growth in the hungry minds of illegal children .
