New vid! - "Cold Cold Water" (Battlestar Galactica 2003)
I finished a vid! In a brand new (for me) fandom! Whee!

Sorry for the exclamation abuse. Here's the info:

Song: Cold Cold Water
Artist: Mirah
Fandom: Battlestar Galactica 2003
Spoilers: The whole first season
Description: Kara, Lee, and the distance between them.
Format & Size: DivX AVI (54mb)
Right-click and Save Target As to download!

I saddled up my pony ride
and rode into the ghostly night
it was
wide, wide open, wide, wide open

I left the only home I knew
I stayed alive and I found you
now I take you where the water's deep
and make the air you breathe so sweet

but is it not enough to be complete? please?
let me give you everything you need, please?

now I suffer for your hungry eye
oh why must it see more than mine?
it's a
light you're after, 'cause light moves faster
but

when I ride again into the night
my torch will shoot flames strong and bright
and my absence will remind you of
how tough it is to be in love

and it's not what I think it's what you say, hey
and it works great for you to have your way, hey

but if the west can be a desperate place
you search all day for just a taste
of the

cold, cold water,
cold, cold water
and if you think I've gone too long
listen the sky will sing this song
as it burns up all the memories
that flow like water out of me

Ohhh, this is so, so shiny! Brilliant song choice, truly. The drumming is so evocative of the show. You make it look so effortless! This is one of those vids I'm going to have to watch a lot to catch everything. Oh, the suffering. *g* Beautiful, beautiful work, truly. *is in awe*

What a fascinating vid!

I am deeply enamored of the song, which has so much *space* in it, it's so open and so beautifully *usable* for a vid -- all those variations in the arrangement! And you use it thoroughly and well, all the tone changes, the organy music for the funeral and the two drum beats for the punches, the way each verse is defined not just by its lyrics but by its *sound*. That is some lovely work.

Your cutting feels open the way the song is. I don't know quite how to articulate that, except to say that you haven't always cut to the beat, but sometimes to the beat and sometimes to the lyric, and that makes the vid feel sort of organic and loose and unstable, which is the way the song feels, and which seems totally right for Starbuck.

It took me two viewings to understand "cold cold water" as a metaphor for faith -- in leaders, in myths, in anything at all to cling to in her crazy world. And you have a deft touch working Zak, Adama, Baltar, and Starbuck's own sense of mission into what would otherwise be a straightforward Lee-Kara 'shipfest. This is definitely a vid that rewards repeat viewings -- it's got layers.

Great work!

Wow. :D You *used* this song (which is an awesome choice, by the way). So many emotions accented so deftly. And those drums! ::grins a big huge grin::

This vid makes me think of watching an amazingly talented piano player. Their fingers and hands are dancing so quickly you can hardly follow, and the whole they're making is just sweeping you away with them. It's really wonderful.

Got here through [info]laurashapiro's rec--what a fantastic vid! I loved the movement of it, how the song balanced the images perfectly; it felt just as strong, complex, and dangerous as the relationship. I so thoroughly enjoyed this. Thank you!

Here through friendsfriends and just, wow. Beyond the music sounding like it actually comes from the show, I love the way you used the hard beats, and the complete changes in tempo and orchestration. I know there's more I want to point out, and Barkley's been trying to teach me how to talk about vids, but I'm sorry, I keep getting stuck at "Wow."

As you know... LOVE. I think I've commented on just about every second of this vid before, but things that continue to strike me even on repeated viewings: the bottle-clinking from Hand of God; the movement from Roslin to Baltar to Kara leaving Baltar's room; the "how tough it is to be in love" bit; the intercuts to the beginning of KLG1 with her watching him walk away from her in the hangar.

It's amazing, too, how just a couple of small changes can really make a difference; you really strengthened and clarified the ending. Like everyone has said above, it's very complex, and every clip is so-well chosen that it paints a very detailed and insightful picture in a very short time. Really, really well done.

Yay!
Starbuck! I'm finally home and can watch the vid! Whee!

This is an intereting song -- it's so spare and then suddenly there's all this stuff happening! I need to rewatch a few more times but my favorite part is the bridge, particularly the way you timed the punches to the music.

I also really liked the earlier instrumental section and the way you used the slower drums (boom Boom). Yay! Thanks for sharing!

*hides wallet from myself* Okay, all I've seen is the miniseries, but your vid makes me pray that Universal sees some profit in airing BSG on NBC at some point. *begs execs* Beautiful vid, loved the effects and gawd, starbuck and appollo are pretty!

*pokes around your vid bunnies, looking for the one that hides* Also makes me looooong for your first farscape vid (and the multitudes that I know will follow).

Holy frak! Best BSG vid I've seen so far. Beautiful, I love the way you matched the scenes up with those drum beats. Really cool. Plus the lyrics are perfect. Lovely work, seamless. Thank you!

Your header is gorgeous, as well. I've never seen one where the images change like that. Coolness!

Hi! I'm here via [info]vidding. I just wanted to let you know that I really, really enjoyed this vid, even though I've never watched a single episode of BSG. I downloaded it because I love the song, and I stayed because you used the music and the lyrics so perfectly, I became fascinated with the characters in spite of myself. Is the blonde woman Starbuck? *is clueless*

I've been trying to think of dazzling analytical insights here, but am still stuck at the "wow" stage. And I don't know the show at all.

But I love the way you match the really drastic changes in tone within the music. It feels tense and epic and personal and cliff-hanging - the vid itself feels like a complete entity, but about events which are very much in progress, outcomes not determined yet.

I just got around to viewing this. It's been sitting on my desktop since you posted. So I apologize for this being so late but I just had to tell you how amazing this vid is. Fantastic editing and song usage. It made me feel the BSG love all over again. And I loved the song, I'm going to have to check out the rest of her stuff. Again, great job and I am anxiously awaiting your farscape vid!!

::flails:: I've had this vid saved to my computer for a while now and I've watched it quite a few times- and then today I realized that I did not provide feedback! (Or at least, I don't think I did.) Yes, so I am here now to say that this is a gorgeous vid, and I love it because not only is it just beautiful to watch, it also introduced me to a new singer and a fantastic song. Whenever I hear this song now, I can't help but think of your video.

I really love how you'd cut back and forth on beats between two different scenes/conversations like Roslin counting the vote, and the funerals, and the fight scene. From 2:45 onward where the music kicks up is just, well I wish I could offer something coherent as far as compliments go but it's more like "OMG SO AWESOME".

So anyway, thanks so much for this wonderful little vid.

Wow! My favorite vidder strikes again! I love the editing in this. The Roslin/Apollo/Starbuck/Gaius transition was beautiful, and played on some interesting subtext between the characters. I applaud your song choice. I was really into this song years ago, and completely forgot about it until I watched this vid. The drums are so perfectly BSG. It's raw and emotional and it so feels like Starbuck. I'm glad you used the shots of Starbuck finding the Arrow of Apollo because that's such an iconic image of the character. The clinking bottles and Starbuck and Apollo punching each other were great moments too. Just and excellent vid, one of my favorites.

I was wondering if you could recommend any BSG vids. I've come across a lot of K/L vids in one community, but usually the song choice turns me off. Know of any decent ones?

Hi!! *waves frantically*

Yay, I'm glad I found this link.

Ok, I'm not crazy obsessed stalker-lady, but I've watched this video a thousand times! A few months ago, my friend [info]deathisyourart wanted to get me into BSG, but I was skeptical and was all "ew space show with no heart. it seems COLD AND BORING and etc". So to prove to me that this show was actually interesting, she pointed me towards your video. I have to say pretty much right after watching this video, I decided I was going to get into BSG if it killed me! And well, I started watching and I really fell in love with the show. It's my #1 now. I have so much fun with it and I will always be grateful to DIYA for introducing it to me. But, I also have you and your wonderful video to thank.

I've also linked to your site and sent your video to a lot of my other friends to try to get them into BSG and in majority if the times, it's worked. A couple of friends even told me that they found this video on their on and we've been loving it without the other knowing.

It's just the perfect video. I'm not big in the vidding community, so I"m not an expert by any means, but I just love this one!

My friend and I were talking today about this video and this is what she said: I think Cold Water is always going to be above the fold, it's the perfect song for the perfect show with the perfect characters with perfect editing.

Anyways! Sorry for my enthusiastic craziness, but I just wanted you to know how much we all enjoy this video and watch it regularly! (we've even watched it simultaneously a few times over AIM and squeed at specific times together)

If you ever make any more BSG vids, you'll have a lot of fans!
