Rage

Throughout this post you can liberally sprinkle swearwords as you please. I haven't actually put any in but feel free to think of the words which most express your anger.

Riding along Nicolson street past the Fesitval City Threatre when some drunk shouts out cyclist and starts staggering out into the road. Given that this isn't too unusual I didn't move that far out but slowed down a bit as I passed him when he hit my helmet with something, don't know if it was his hand or a bottle or what.

I have had it with this country, with the retards that populate it. I have absolutely no compassion for the populous in any shape or form and my misanthropy is growing daily. I don't believe in democracy or that these people should have any rights because they are too stupid to make any intelligent decisions. I'm sick of the petty, lawless attitude of the country as a whole, why should I respect such fools? Simply cannot express my general rage and think that the government's policies are pathetic, which simply reflects a pathetic people. Tempted to go burn a Scottish flag down at the parliament sometime soon.

Alun's just come home from the supermarket with a tin of bacon grill. It's not the most appetising (looking) food in the world (it comes in a rectangular tin. like spam. with a key.) It has inspired me to ask: what utterly strange (to normal people) food did you used to eat as a child that you continue to buy?

I have to say, if I hadn't been exposed to the tastiness of bacon grill, I would never have bought it myself. So yeah, the kind of food no normal person browsing the supermarket aisles would pick up and go "ooh, that sounds nice..."

I'm not sure if mine counts. A concoction that I used to eat all the time was always barbecue beef super noodles with chunks of peperami thrown in. I've been cooking it the same way for years, and despite microwave power ratings going up (and therefore cooking times going down), it's always been 7 minutes in the mike, chuck in the peperami, 3 more minutes. These days it cremates the meat chunks and makes the noodles congeal into some kind of cake. I particularly like the crunchy bits round the edge of the jug. Always a perspex jug these days, I used to use a plastic jug at home and my mum got annoyed that it never got cleaned properly, cos the fat in the meat bubbles round the top of the 'cake' and I guess has melted away the jug somewhat.

It's my comfort food these days. I've become a bit healthier in my old age, so it's an occasional lunchtime weekend treat. But, oh god yum.

Clucking bankers

I think I've been screwed. I'm just not quite sure how.

A year ago, having some capital going spare, I placed it in a one-year deposit account with the Deutsche Bank. Very simple: one year, 4.5% interest, pull it out at the end and do something more productive with it. I could presumably have found better interest elsewhere, but at the time I just wanted it out of my current account, and I didn't have good enough German to figure out anything more complicated. A year later, and I've pulled it out and done something better with it. But something mysterious has happened.

I've got less money than I started with.

My first impulse, of course, was to think that the bank must have made a mistake. But, looking through my statement, and doing some back-of-envelope calculations, adding up a few percentages, deducting a few fees, calculating some tax, everything comes out worryingly close to the same sum. I still have to hoick out my book-keeping software and go through the numbers in detail, but it seems that the Deutsche Bank have deftly, legally, contractually, and exquisitely politely, managed to retrieve pretty much all that interest they so generously paid me. And the rest has gone to the government.

Fortunately, my German's getting to the point where I can read the small print these days. Meanwhile, I find myself enchanted by the decorous evil of bankers.

Living is easy with eyes closed

Or so someone once said. I wish I could close my eyes and make it all go away.

Why did he have to tell me yesterday? When all I wanted to do was have fun. In just a few seconds my already difficult life has expanded. I don't NEED this.

Surrounded by these same 4 walls day in, day out. Fuck it. I'm getting out of here.

Stupid, stupid, stupid.

Suppose you have an appliance protected by a 3A fuse, connected to an extension lead that's protected with a 10A RCD. Then suppose you short out the appliance. Is it bad news if the fuse blows rather than the RCD tripping?

At least, that's what I was going to ask. I now realise that the appliance being insulated and unearthed means there's no residual current, just overload current. I feel stupid. I feel even more stupid for having tested and reset the RCD several times before checking the appliance fuse.

Of course, I feel more stupid still for accidentally slicing the hedge trimmer's flex. )-8

Well that was super fun! Quite a different experience to finish in mid pack instead of back of pack.

Full report on the way, but for now:

Swim went badly, took me 35 minutes and got stung by jellyfish. :( The river currents that were supposed to help actually hindered quite a bit.

NUCLEAR POWERED bike. I rocked the bike hard. The rental Zipp 808s were totally worth it.

Very good run. ~10 minute miles even with occasional walk breaks and stops to drink water. Quite happy with the run.

Now, some food and a little nap. :)

What's your vector Victor?

I remember ages ago there was supposed to be a way of turning bitmaps into vectors meaning they're totally scaleable into as high resolutions as you like without a loss of quality. I think I did it with Corel Draw or something. I had a look on the internet for the best way to accomplish what I was after and I came across a very nifty site called Vector Magic which takes a bitmap and vectorises it for you giving a free PNG and the option of having a vector EPS file which can be read by Adobe Illustrator.

The reason why I was doing all of this was because the great pic Muzz did of my character was so small and I wanted a higher resolution copy for wallpapers and stuff. So I took the original 550x635 image and turned it into this 4181x2609 image (16:10 aspect ready to be downsized for wallpaper use).

Before and after comparisons:
