Katie has the hiccups.

That is all.

I just realized I may have turned into one of those boring 'parent' type things.

Whoops.

4:22 pm - Katie is home!
Alison and I got home about an hour ago, and Katie and Mommy are settled into the nursery... well... nursing! :) Katie is doing very well, and we're all looking forward to getting a little sleep in our own bed(s). (Emphasis on little.)

Thank you everybody for your visits, calls, and general love and support.

I'll post more maybe after a shower. Yes... god, a shower! SHOWER!

9:41 am - Baby Katie is here!
I just finished a quick cat nap with the puppies and let them smell a blankey that smells like Katie. I'm showering and heading back in.

Katherin Marie Sonderegger :

6 pounds, 1 ounce.
20 inches long.
Born 10:38 October 5th. (Happy birthday, Mom!)

And she's about 40 gallons of cute in a 1 quart jar!

Alison had a pretty easy delivery compared to what we were worried would happen, which is great! It means she should be coming home Tuesday with baby! If you absolutely can't wait that long and want to pop by, we're at Sequoia Hospital in Redwood City. It's on Whipple and Alameda de las Pulgas. The easiest way to get there is take 101, take the Whipple road exit heading west, and drive until you run into it.

Unless you're family, please try to make it in before 8pm so Alison doesn't feel bad if she needs to sleep. Also, if you could wait until after 2 pm today, that'd be great. I'm going to run back and try and get Alison to sleep as much as possible. (If your schedule doesn't allow that, we can accomodate, I'm sure. I'd just like to get the bulk of the visitors in the afernoon, early evening.)

So, if you do come and visit, knock on the door softly if it says visitors are welcome. There's a curtain there so you can then open the door a little and find out if it's okay to come in. (Just to make sure Alison isn't in the shower or completely naked or something.)

If you are at ALL curious about if you should come and visit now, or if you want to wait, or whatever, please call me. Six zero eight, seven seven two, zero six zero zero. (Hopefully that'll keep spam bots from adding it to random phone lists.)

Thank you ALL for the wonder well wishes, and we can't wait for you all to meet our newest little bundle of joy!

8:03 pm - Going in again.
This time, Alison's uterus means BUSINESS!

(We hope!)

5:06 pm - Baby on the way. (We think.)
So Alison started labor at 2 am this morning. It's now 5 pm and we just got back from the hospital after being sent home because Alison isn't far enough along.

Looks like a loooong run up time for Alison. She's on the couch trying to sleep a little bit before things pick up again.

But the baby ought to be here by tomorrow at the latest!

PLEASE! DO NOT CALL US! Alison is trying to sleep, and whoever calls and wakes her up is disinvited to every birthday party ever. Seriously.

Even when we get back up and going into the hospital, call my parents or Alison's parents. We'll keep them up to date, and I'll post to my LJ as I get a chance. We'll start calling people after Alison gets through this and has some time to recover.

12:14 pm - Watchin House last night...
So last night one of the character's on House found out his wife was hiding money in a secret bank account. It turned out to be because she was saving up money to buy him the ridiculously impractical car he would never buy for himself.

I, of course, offered to help Alison set up a secret account just in case this car is available any time soon.

She laughed a lot. :D

10:57 am - Fun times!
First off, Ricky Gervais was brilliant in Ghost Town. And not just him. The casting was great all around! I highly enjoyed that movie and would recommend it to anyone. Well written, well cast, and well acted.

Secondly, Fallout 3 is being released at the end of October! Woo! Finally something for me to celebrate in October besides Halloween! (Note tongue in cheek here.)

Wanna see some VERY early Jack Black action? Click here for his screen test for King Kong. (No, not really.)

10:02 am - Weird...
For some strange reason today I'm feeling nostalgic for an old Atari 2600 game.....

Yar's Revenge.

Weird, huh?

10:02 am - Road Test!
So y'all saw my new bike pics, right? Well I rode it to work today despite not having the front deraileuueroir(sp?) tuned quite right (It doesn't like downshifting past the second ring.) Holy crap, this bike ROCKS! I was worried that switching from a shock on the fork to a solid frame would make riding over the extremely poorly repaired crappy street I live on suck even more. Boy was I wrong! With my mountain bike, sure my hands and shoulders glided over the bumps, bobbles, and debris smoothly, but the aluminum hardtail on the bike did its very own reenactment of scenes from Oz on my tender behind every trip over that road. With the new steel frame, I felt the bumps a little more up front, but the back end of the ride was WAY WAY WAY better! Instead of Oz, the reenactment was much more like that of a Snuggles the Bear fabric softener commercial. Ahhhhh.... So very nice!

As for the components, I got full 105s from Shimano which was pitched to me by several people as the 'sweet spot' for price vs. performance. Holy cow, are they right. Shifting the rear is so smooth you almost don't notice it! Niiiice. Once I get the font tweaked just right I'll be in heaven!

The wheels are ridiculously light. Mavic Open Pro rims on ultegra hubs.

I need to get the computer swapped over to find out if I'm going any faster on this bike than on the MTB. I was taking it kind of easy today as I get used to the bike. I've never ridden anything besides BMX and MTBs, so there is definitely some adjustment that needs to be done.

All in all, this is the coolest anniversary present I've ever gotten! THANKS ALISON! :D

current mood: happy

It's finally here :

Cut for huge image sizes! )

That's my sweet new ride! I could totally pull somebody on rollerblades into town for some sweet lessons in Rex-Kwon-Do!

10:06 am - Why my wife is cool...
Alison reads way to many preggy LJ communities and stuff, but she told me about an exchange in one that made me love her even more. There was an argument in the community about breast feeding vs. formula (apparently it happens about once a day) and the following was said :

(many random rants for and against breast feeding)
Preggy Poster 1 : Jesus was breast fed!
Preggy Poster 2 : Yah, well he was nailed up on a cross, too! You gonna do that to your baby?
Awesome Alison : Actually, my husband and I were planning on using crucifiction as a time out method. Are you saying that's not okay?

ROCK!

12:19 pm - Still more bad person evidence...
Not convinced I'm a bad person? I'm kinda hoping Ike will thread the needle between Florida and Cuba and smack into New Orleans.

Why?

Because people obviously didn't learn to stop building things below sea level, particularly when you've got nothing but a cinderblock wall between you and said sea and the ground you're on CONTINUES TO SINK!

2:01 pm - My bike is getting BUILT!
So the frame arrived at the place who's doing all the prep work and putting on the components. Tonight it gets built, and tomorrow afternoon it gets shipped.

HOLY AWESOME!

Secondly, my BABY IS GETTING BUILT! Only a few weeks before I accept delivery on the newly built baby! Alison and I have already gotten stupid amounts of accessories for the baby. Hopefully there aren't any incompatibilities. :D

12:33 pm - Entertaining!
As you know, Alison and I are obsessed with baby stuff.

Here's an interesting political related baby stuff thing beneath the cut. )

MAN they're really working every angle on Palin! Politics is mean, mean, mean.

9:51 am - Our friends had a baby!
So some pretty good friends of ours had their baby last night. At 3 a.m. roughly. Via a c-section.

What does this mean?

We get called in off the bench to help out today! The mom and baby are both fine, but because of the c-section mom can't be alone in the hospital room by herself with the baby, so we get to scoot in and let dad catch some shut eye. Awwww yah.

4:58 pm - The bike is on its way.... slowly....
So I want a surly cross-check. But I don't want bar end shifters because I lurve my MTB trigger shifters and die a little inside at the thought of going back to those little lever hickey dos.

Thus begins the "OMG WHAT THE HECK AM I DOING?" process of figuring out a custom road bike build.

I talked to the local shop. They told me point blank that it'd be cheaper to buy the parts on the interwebs and have them put the bike together than to buy everything through them. So I figure I'd go around and find everything I needed, order it, and schelp it over to the shop.

Apparently I was wrong.

Trying to find a place that had everything in stock was a nightmare. A NIGHTMARE! Heck, finding a single place that sold the frame and the components as a build kit was horrible. Add to the fact that I don't know what I'm doing and the frustration level gets pretty high.

At anyrate, I found a guy who doesn't carry Surly bikes, but had reasonable (Not the cheapest, but FAR from the most expensive) prices on the components, with a very customizable build process so that I wouldn't forget anything, but could easily modify any and every component and see the price change reflected. And he would also build up any frame you shipped him for a very reasonable price. SWEET!

After talking with Derek and looking at the site, I called the guy and talked to him. He was very cool and fun to talk to, and even sounded a little excited at building up the surly for me. So I think this is the way to go. I just need to confirm with central command (aka Alison) that it's okay and we're good to go! :D

11:02 am - Does it make me a bad person?
Does it make me a bad person if the fact that the American Association of People with Disabilities is protesting a movie for excessive use of the word 'retard' makes me want to go and see the movie?

I will buy you a beer if you can explain in scientific terms why a fresh slice of cheese right off the block is soooo much tastier than just a slice of cheese.
