'Afterthought' and 'Forethought' are two wonderful, heart-wrenching pieces about non-communication.
I love the way Ellipsical describes the dynamics of Harry's and Snape's relationship, the way they act on base of assumptions, both too intimidated by the other's age and personality, fame and status to be honest about their wishes and their feelings.
It is a wonderful study of a not so functional Snape/Harry relationship.
As it took me about two hours to write these one... two... actually three sentences, I will leave you at that. ;)

Heart-wrenching is exactly what first came to my mind. I must say I did expect a different ending, but that doesn't mean I'm disappointed in any way. Far from it, actually. It's very refreshing to see something so different, so painful and so precious in the world of Snarry.
