jam that culture! OK well it's not the best, in fact it's kinda repetitive, but i decided to finally enter my own commercial into that Chevy Taho Donald Trump debacle of a neat idea gone wrong... So check it out, my first Chevy commercial, watch it , or better yet, make your own!
[BTW found out from my VJ Forum that this is the product of Alaska Action who are running their own campaign for culture jammers to see who can spoof Taho the best... mad props to them!]
who says that VJs and AV artists aren't that hot? gotta love Addictive TV. Sure Graham, Francoise and Co. have been churning out killer videos and breaking audio visual ground for ages... But they just upped the ante yet again... Instead of going the traditional route for pushing the new Antonia Banderas vehicle ("Take the Lead"), the hollywood execs decided to be cool. And can you get cooler than AV wizardry? Um, no.
So here's Addictive TV's Take The Lead remix-- a totally legal movie remix (even before the movie comes out).. By AV VJ standards the visuals aren't the hottest thing ever (I mean these are the artists who did all the melting candy liquid walls at raves), there's good rhythm, some nice Banderas scratching... but not anything to drop jaw to floor... still, quite something.... a legal remix!! nice.
shrouded under security, and the pomp of the olymipics VJCulture mashes up the afterparty..... Ok not very eco related (unless you get into VJing and recycling loops...) but thought this was pretty cool. The Bay Area's VJ Culure (#6 in the latest world VJ top 20) has set up shop in Turin for the olympics. They're playing at the Piazza Solferino every night for all the afterparty needs of the olympic spectacle hounds... You can read about it on his blog. The coolest part (aside from my being happy for Culture) is that everyone around the world can participate: all you have to do is send some music, or do something in front of a camera and they will mix it in to the beat and mash it at night during the party.. so everyone can participate! To find out how, check out oneOlympic and join the olypic stage without having to fly around the world!
i.candy break-- i know it's only been 5 days since i posted some eye candy ...but that was three half-dozen posts ago, and tbh, a lot of those were really heavy on the grrreeengeeky side. So, from the eco nerds, to the geeks of the art world: my peeps, the vjs! Yes. Here's some nice eye candy, sorta like sorbet in a chi chi restaurant, you know, so as to cleanse the palate before another serving .....So without further ado-- here's some FINE VJreels (what a VJ may send a promoter).
First here's a very graceful and rich reel from Frenec and David aka PointBlank Visuals coming at you all the way from the Hague, something about this really works for me: the playing high contrast against low contrast for rhythms, the subtle & rich colourizing.... and for a reel, it's very well structured building a lot in its few minutes, and definitely capturing their essence.... [really great reel by PoinntBlank Visuals]
EBN ONLINE!!! WOOO HOOO!!! speaking of MashUps before... I just though that you might be interested in knowing that the legendary Emergency Broadcast network (EBN) has released many of their old videos online! Yup! that's right you can see 'em for free!!! If you weren't around then, EBN are the originators of the political groove oriented video mash ups. Enjoy!
[click here} fun fun fun! and now more than ever...
I was going to start this one off by saying that VJs ((no, not the kind on MTV, the ones who do those pretty/trippy projections at clubs, raves concerts and fashion-shows)) VJs are not only so post modern without even trying, but are also one of the most ecological types of artists (not in content necessarily, or by their footprint, as computers do have a dark side) but by virtue of the fact that they make images (or often “appropriate” them) and then spend the next few months mixing them, mashing them together, working out jams, all the while re-using the images that they made the month (or months) before (or stole). That’s how I was going to start off this plug for my friends’ DVD. But that’s silly because VJs want to (rightfully) get their work onto the small screens, where it could be enjoyed more.. but of course that’s going to mean plastics and shipping & handling, and more waste = ( …that being said, Eye Wash Volume 2 just got released and I have decided that I’ll let you in on the little secret: Aside from the fact that Eye Wash is the longest running and most grooviest VJ/AV event in new york city, and aside from the fact that a lot of the people on this DVD are people I have played with and or know, and like a lot as people as well as killah VJs, this is a DVD unlike anything you have yet experienced, and I think you want to get your eyeballs on a copy of this. Mixing all sorts of images, sure to bedazzle and astound, this disc features twenty of New York City’s finest VJs mixing and remixing beautiful imagery to original music that floats from IDM to ambient… get a taste of the cutting (Visual) edge in The City!
well, this is my first post-- probably the first of many... will have to start slowly... not certain yet about a number of technical issues (how do i post links, now have to also go and photoshop an image to 100x100) and mors likely have to begin working hence this isnt so much of an entry as it is a test of the system.
regardless, if you happen to be here, let me at the very least thank you by puting down some of my favorite links:
