well, a happy and healthy new year to all! I am glad i took a few days off (boy do i have a stocking full of groovy tips for y'all now) but even more glad to be back!
and to get the ball rolling, i have recently found a number of inspiring PDF files, and here's the first one; 2004's top 10 innovations. Written by mike adams for Truth In Publishing (now there's a novel concept) the list includes (but is not limited to) fuel cells (duh), practical robots (yay!) and a surprise nod to Vibrational medicine.... a great read!, enjoy! |

| bots are cool, okay??? |
[Dec. 22nd, 2004|09:15 pm] |
...aside from the people-killing robots (not as cool) i have to say --unless at some point they decide to take over-- perhaps we will be better off with some bots, and not just the rechargeable lawn mowing kind. Especially these, i (almost) forgot all about this one. my favorite bot of all! Inside sealed shipping containers are modular stackable organic robotic hydroponic systems. organitech has found a way to harvest over 350 heads of lettuce a day fom one machine (10'x10'x40). and the shipping containers themselves are stackable... take 2 or 3 city block sized pieces of land near a city and you can grow all the veggies and fruits you need! no shipping tomatos across the ocean in refridgerated trucks! Liberate the Soil! Build the AgriBots!! |

i think my pennance is almost over... but, this month, RPI announced some great strides taken on their SAUVE (Solar Autonamous Underwater VehiclE) which is a PV powered robot that can sense biological or chemical impurities, alert other SUAVEs-- and who knows, in the future send out for some biochem neutralizer bots to clean up whatever mess the SUAVEs find.... not too shabby! what is it with robots today?? the headline on CNet News all day today is about a backwoods inventor who is completing his 18ft robot. well, exoskeleton is more like it... as you can see in the photo, it's designed pretty much a la animé...
in the article, Carlos Owens the 28 year old backyard inventor says he is interested in doing good things with the Mecha like saving people and/or fighting off alien armies... but in the meantime when completed Mecha will be doing the good work of destroying cars at Rallys and Smash Up Derbies with his built-in falmethrower and his 200lbs steel fist.... wait a minute ...that is kinda creepy... |

it has come to my attention that i come off like some luddite robophobe ((just because i don't like seeing warbots that kill but look like toys)) so i would like to share the sad and true tale of a nice fuzzy creative robot.
looking like r2dt's ugly cousin, this painting and music-playing new york robot was recently spotted (by none other than Gizmodo's editor joel johnson) spare changing in the Bedford L Subway station = ( in his glory days, ol "Robot" (that's his name ((maybe that was part of the problem)) used to paint paintings while playing music by Canadian prog-rockers Rush ((hmm..... if that was his act, no wonder)) you can see a film of one of Robot's performance pieces here |

ok so weve been using some drones for a while now, but it's official! the first 100 "soldiers" from Foster Miller have been shipped off to Iraq. this motley crew of robots can sense chemical/conventional weapons, as well as fire little rockets. while they look like toys, they are deadly. And i don't know about you but when i look at these i can't help but think how many can be produced, and just what kind of world the 21st century is shaping up to be.....
i just hope the Talons dont reproduce with these guys or we're in a heap of trouble..... |
