I don't have the brain cells to write about anything serious, so I'll plug Nothing Serious instead!

Tickets $12, $10 for students and seniors. Group discount available. For more information, visit www.theatreatfirst.org.

Come see! You really don't want to miss the penguin, trust me.

12:59 pm - Hi. I'm frazzled.
|
|
There are lots of things I'd like to write about. But I'm facing overload at work plus prod week for the show, and I don't have any spare brain cells. So yeah, frazzled. And missing Con, still.

6:38 pm - Officially a smartypants.
|
At least according to the one who posted this video! Yes, it's self-promoting of me, but I had to share proof for all my non-NPL friends that I really do know Will Shortz. :)
( Video back here. )

11:44 am - Cruelty.
|
Cruelty: First day back from Con, and my commute is all messed up by a broken-down train. Get to work, and find out I'm supposed to be in an all-day meeting. (From which I am on a brief break.)
Stupid reality!

7:04 pm - Only 17 hours late...
|
Unnecessarily long trip home from Con, courtesy of bad weather in Atlanta. Fortunately it became clear I'd miss my connection before I left Denver, so I spent the night at Mom's instead of somewhere in Atlanta.
Con? Wonderful. Too short. Took people to Rocky Mountain National Park. Had adventures in miscommunication, but everyone came out of it ok. Did puzzles. Played games. Laughed and talked and reveled in actually belonging somewhere.
More details later. Now I have to go to rehearsal. *blear*

2:18 pm - A decade.
|
Somewhere around now, ten years ago, I was wondering if I was about to make a horrible mistake. What was I thinking, going off to Atlanta to a convention of people I'd never met, and knew little about except that they wrote puzzles?
Well, I don't know what I was thinking, but it was one of the best decisions I ever made.
It's been ten years since my first NPL convention, and I honestly cannot picture what my life would look like today had I not gotten on that plane to Atlanta. So much of my circle of friends now is tied to puzzles. And even things that aren't directly connected to puzzles -- like LARPing -- are part of my life because of people I know through puzzling. (If I hadn't joined the NPL, I wouldn't have started doing the MIT Mystery Hunt, so would never have met tahnan, who wouldn't have suggested Otherworld, and I then wouldn't have had the conversation with cramerica that led to my trying Legends.) I've done things and been places I'd never have experienced without the NPL.
So, as we head for Conorado next weekend -- thanks to all my fellow puzzle geeks out there, who've been such a key part of the past decade of my life.

8:22 am - Ping for sewers & crafters.

(I don't have a sewing or crafty icon. Should do something about that. I guess showing Sevi using her craft skill (herbalism) is as close as I get...)
Fabric.com is having a sale on muslin this weekend. I've dealt with them frequently, and the fabric's always been good. So if you need a bolt of muslin for your nefarious plans, now's your chance!

1:08 pm - Update to the preceding.
|
|
| |
12:06 pm - Damn it.
|
The 3 1/2-year-old daughter of a friend and colleague of my mother's passed away last night, losing a year-long fight with cancer. Damn it.
In December, I thought of The Willa's Hats Project but never got my f****in' act together to do anything about it. Now I really should.
I need: - Links to good patterns for kids' hats - People who want to make hats - Advice on how to get something like this going and publicize it
Will appreciate any or all of the above.
*sigh*
Goodbye, Willa. I never met you in person but your passing breaks my heart anyway.

9:04 am - Feeling human again.
|
Wow. A solid, unfevered night's sleep (was in bed before 9, after doing laundry and putting clean sheets on the bed), and I'm almost feeling human again. My chest's still congested and the Cough of Doom is still quite busy, but my energy level is way up from where it was yesterday.
Three cheers for (a) being smart enough to take care of myself and (b) the right drugs. :)

2:31 pm - Semi-functional.
|
Fever broke overnight. This is good.
Still have Cough of Doom and not much energy, but I got myself to work. Cough of Doom continues its tradition of alarming coworkers and bringing out maternal instincts.
And I finally got soup. :)

3:20 pm - A video of awesome.
|
From all over my friends list, but awesome enough to get more linking: Where the Hell Is Matt? It's this guy. He dances. All over the world. And gets people to dance with him. And that description completely fails to capture why this video makes me grin and get a little misty-eyed.
And hey, it's a chance to use this icon. :)
(Still sick. Been to doctor, diagnosed as bronchitis. Have assorted drugs. Stayed home from work again today, will try to go tomorrow.)

5:20 pm - Business idea.

Someone should run a chicken soup delivery service for all us single folks who get sick.
Maybe other comfort foods too.
