| Feel the bubble of love... |
[07 Oct 2008|11:27pm] |
Out of nowhere I've just been blindsided by a flurry of slashy, fluffy loveliness from LJ from various fandoms, some of them not actually my own. Just passing on a few links as they made me smile:
From House, House/Wilson - Isn't It Bromantic?. Utterly charming TV Guide photoshoot of Hugh Laurie and Robert Sean Leonard done for an interview they gave regarding the latest season. Thank you viciouswishes for the heads-up!
From Torchwood, Jack/Ianto - 2 pics from S3 shooting (no obvious spoilers). GDL and JB both looking ridiculously fine and possibly making me melt just a bit as I've always been a sucker for the 'eye contact' thing. Thanks this time to rivier for flagging these :)
From Merlin, Arthur/Merlin - "Next Time, I Will Remember This And I Will Say 'No'". PG-13. Manages the odd feat of being simultaneously less slashy than the show (this is scorching UST and clueless Merlin is brilliant) whilst also removing the ambiguity (Arthur may not be clueless but is possibly in denial). Regardless of pairing, the banter between the two is spot-on, nothing like constant put-downs and backhanded insults to make an OTP sail true :)

| Ah Merlin |
[07 Oct 2008|01:42am] |
I was about to head up the wooden hill only to get distracted at the last moment by this interview with the Merlin cast.
Ah, the loveliness. ASH having a ball at getting to swan around in cloaks and be a "complete b*stard". You have Richard Wilson hoping that one day kids won't recognise him because they won't be expecting him to be bald.
But of course, it was a throwaway line from Colin Morgan (Merlin) that made me fluff up with geeky happiness. He was talking about the similarities between himself and Merlin, namely how they'll both give 100% to whatever challenges come their way. For example...( SPOILER for a future scene from some unspecified future ep... )
Right, and now it really is late and I must work again tomorrow. Bah! Goodnight, world.

| Anyone know any good DVD players? |
[02 Oct 2008|08:20pm] |
It's been one hell of a week at work. Roll on the weekend.
Anyway, I'm in need of a DVD player. Just a player, not recorder or burner. Can anyone recommend any decent brands that they've been happy with?

I think I'm too damn wordy for Twitter. I'm always struggling and tinkering away with adjectives, adverbs, indeeds, and such like. It's mostly disheartening.
In other news, today I sent 2398478934 e-mails to various hostels in and around the city, with my CV attached to them and pleas, like, "PLEASE CAN I HAS A JOB NAO". It takes desperation to resort to this! (Not really.)
PS. Apparently, Rick Astley has been shortlisted for an MTV Award. And it's the Interweb at fault again, of course. Also, LOL.

| Singapore Grand Prix - Friday 26 September |
[27 Sep 2008|12:49pm] |
The long awaited Formula 1 circus has finally arrived in Singapore. Having been a fan for over 10 years, it was simply surreal to witness the spectacle up close . The shiny cars looked magnificent under the lights, and the noise those machines make...A.W.E.S.O.M.E!!!!!!! What you hear on TV, just doesn't cut it man!!!
On Friday, we entered through Gate 6, near the Fullerton Hotel at about 3pm. Security clearance was swift, there seemed more GP volunteers than actual ticket holders then. Guess nobody wanted to watch the support races yah?
The purrs of the Formula BMW cars greeted our ears once we entered the circuit. We took up position at one of the bleaches along Esplanade Drive to watch a bit of the practice session...

I'm pleasantly surprised the organisers went to the trouble of providing the bleaches around the track for walkabout ticket holders...Pay $38 and get a seat?! Well you grandstand ppl must be shitting yourselves.
We decided to continue walking down Esplanade Drive to check out better vantage points. The sun was blazing hot then. I'm sure glad we remembered to kit ourselves out with sunblock and a nice hat! Em and I ducked inside the Esplanade for a bit of an air-con reprieve before making our way to the Singapore Flyer.
The road blocks made it rather difficult to get around and we got kinda screwed with our directions. But we chanced upon a couple of Ferrari and Renault crew, so...uh...we decided to follow behind them to see where they were going. The guys literally took us on a short cut through the bushes. ...and guess where we landed up???

There was some 50 people milling about the entrance of the paddock area (some with big-ass cameras) and we were like wondering what the hell are all these ppl standing here for? waiting for some big celebrity to arrive?! So like any true blue Singapore kiasus would do, we stood there waiting too. waiting for what, we did not know, but who cares.
[Warning: Dodgy Photo Corner Ahead. See at your own peril]
Well, we soon found out, when one Rubens Barrichello appeared from the direction of the singapore flyer car park!!!!!
The ang moh aunties and squealing japanese ladies rushed forward and jostled for autographs with the rest of the fans, while we three goondus stood there with our mouths agape at our first ever F1 celebrity encounter.
And then, in a quick flash, Rubens was gone...
OMG! Did we just see Rubens Barrichello? OMG! OMG! *hearts pounding* He's tiny!!!
We had a couple of minutes to recover our shell shocked shelves before we were hit by the next wave of F1 drivers!!!
First, there was Nakajima...

Then Sebastian Vettel (that's his hand holding the copy of the F1 magazine - you're gonna have to take my word for it)

And the super sexy Jenson Button came strolling towards us from the Singapore Flyer! *girlie squeal*

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!
In the midst of the F1 driver melee outside the paddock gates, one very clever Kimi Raikkonen was driven to the paddock area by a dude in a Maserati. Damnit! He must have came from another gate that we didn't see!!! We only caught fleeting glances of him walking away into the restricted area. What a shame!
Having seen all the drivers that we wanted to see (except David Coulthard - where be thee?????), we left the paddock and headed for dinner at the Flyer.
There we were, merrily walking along and who do we bump into???? Pretty boy blondie Nico Rosberg!! He was being interviewed by a TV crew while he was walking, and we kept running in front of him to get the shots. The camera crew tried to wave us away, but we persisted. Like a true blue paparazzi! LOL
Oh why oh why did i forget to pop the Flash?! Why teh picschures so blurry?! DOH! I'm not gonna give up my day job to be a pap anytime soon. Here's the best Nico shot that I have, the bird's blurry, but who cares....

Nico's so pretty he looks like he belongs in a boyband. Just imagine. A boyband comprising of all the pretty boys in F1. Lead Singer: Nico Rosberg. Guitarist: Nelson Piquet. Bassist: Sebastian Vettel. Pianist: Adrian Sutil (I should note at this point Sutil is the only one with true and proven musical capabilities, i can't vouch if the rest can hold a tune)

Yes I've actually put a fair amount of thought in that. LOL. Okay, moving on......
After dinner at Popeye's, we clambered over the temporary overpass (way cool idea!) to the opposite side of the road near the marina and parked our butts at the bleaches after Turn 21.
7pm: Practice session 1 begins. Three minutes later: the first bunch of cars took track, and the roar of the F1 cars rang through the air. Tinnitus, here we come! Whoohooo!!!!!! I'm happy, excited, and damn proud to be able to witness this historical first ever night race on Singapore soil. If there ever was a day to feel proud of your own country, this was it.
Whoo! Blurry!!!
More blurry shots to come! This one's taken from the straight approaching Turn 20.
And I think this one is from Turn 5, but i'm not too sure...
We decided to make out way to the Esplanade and Marina Square area and the geniuses at the Information Booth advised us to exit through Gate 2. Smooth move, man. After we exited, we couldn't find any gates to enter back into the circuit! SHIT!!! We could see and smell the cars, but there were metal cages everywhere and no freeking gates!!! We had to cut through some bushes in front of the Pan Pacific Hotel and had the manager waving manically at us saying "NO GO! NO GO!" or something like that. Somehow after all the wrong turns and dead ends, we ended up in the air-con comforts of Marina Square! Oh shit...practice 1 is almost over. Hmph. We hurriedly made our way towards Gate 7 and endured another round of security checks.
By the time we reached the bleaches on Esplanade Drive, the first session was almost over. DOH! Luckily, there was another session coming up in 30 minutes.

We decided to explore what was going on at the Padang and took the underpass to cross over to the other side of the road. We spotted booths selling Ferrari merchandise, but it was bloody expensive!!! There was also a mini Zouk disco with possibly inebriated ang mohs happily boogie-ing away...which was kinda hilarious.
Many of the ang mohs that we passed by all suffered from beer breath, and we were jealous, but no way we were gonna spend $15 for a cup of warm beer! The food and drinks vendor must be going ka-ching ka-ching! Muffins for $5 each. A can of Coke for $3. Bottled water for $8?! Are you freaking kidding me? It's one thing to rip off tourists, but we locals know better. So where do we go when we need a pick-me-up? Well, simple. Head to the nearest 7-11!!! LOL.
We parked our butts at the bleaches opposite Victoria concert hall and waited for the second session to start. Vrooom!

After a while, it got kinda boring seeing the action from the same spot, so we used the underpass to get to the opposite site of the road. There was this terrific raised platform for spectators, and the view of the cars breaking through Turn 12 was great!!!
[Warning: Another Dodgy Photo Corner Ahead!!!!!!]
Barrichello

Coulthard

Glock and Smug Face

Alonso

Heidfeld

Rosberg

Massa

Kimi!!!!!!

And so concludes the first day of Formula 1 in Singapore. Whoohooo!!! With a silly smile plastered on our face, we left circuit park through Gate 5. I can't wait for next year's race! We'll be sure to buy three day passes this time round!!!
