For the first time ever, Belgians buy Budweiser. Oddly, they bought ALL of it.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/750 Belgian beer giant Inbev is buying out America's biggest brewer, Anheuser-Busch. They say that the move won't close any breweries in the US and that Budweiser, the most popular beer made by Busch, will not be effected by the change. I for one think that this is an outrage. Inbev must reconsider! I mean, have you ever tasted a Budweiser? It's a full frontal assault on the very concept of beer. It tastes terrible, and it has no alcohol content. It makes pbr taste like champagne by comparison. I've always thought that Bud's unoffical slogan was "If you want a beer real bad, we've got a real bad beer." The news here played it for all it was worth. They headed out at noon to find the hardened Bud junkies in the local dives to give the obligatory anti-merger soundbyte. Outrage over this, makes no sense. The Belgians buying your beer is like the Japanese buying your sushi, or the Russians buying your vodka, or the Canadians buying your ... whatever they make really well in Canada. Oh yeah, in other less important news, Bush signed an executive order reversing his father's executive order banning any new off-shore drilling in US territorial waters, and the New Yorker got all Fox News on Barack Obama for some strange reason. |

On Vox: iphone Porn by city
The upswing of people viewing porn on iPhones is apparantly a big blogging target right now. My trend tracker pointed to this google trends page.
http://www.google.com/trends?q=iphone%20
The page had a breakdown by cities which had an unusual oddity:
DC is number one, no surprises there. Finally congressmen can look at porn from the Senate floor. But look at #3. Richardson Texas? Where is Richardson Texas, and why does it create more hits for iPhone porn than *either* Las Vegas or Los Angeles? Wikipedia says that the population is around 100,000 people, so more people can't be the answer... The answer must be... more iPhones per capita. Why do you think that is? Well, Richardson is home to 600 high tech companies, including telco companies, like Nortel, Ericsson, Texas Instruments and.... AT&T. An added advantage of the 3G network, clearly! Other surprises are Irvine and Pleasanton both placing ahead of San Jose or Cupertino, so Apple is clearly able to keep a handle on the illicit porn. Originally posted on steffan.vox.com |

The Babysitters Club
If this weren't in TIME magazine, I'd have sworn it was from The Onion http://www.time.com/time/world/arti ...School officials started looking into the matter as early as October after an unusual number of girls began filing into the school clinic to find out if they were pregnant. By May, several students had returned multiple times to get pregnancy tests, and on hearing the results, "some girls seemed more upset when they weren't pregnant than when they were," Sullivan says. All it took was a few simple questions before nearly half the expecting students, none older than 16, confessed to making a pact to get pregnant and raise their babies together... The school now has 17 expectant mothers under 17 years of age. |

I Love Living in San Francisco
These two gentlemen (obviously a couple) were having this conversation on the bus two days ago: Carmela wants to know if we have sombreros for the wedding. I have a sombrero, but it's not appropriate for a party. It's way too small. How small? Like one for a little dog. Well, that won't work. (Sigh) I guess we'll have to buy you one. Who's "Carmela?" Oh, that's Erica's "Alter Ego" for Spanish themed things. I wish I had an alter ego. Where are we going to get sombreros? Oh, I know a place. What kind of place? A sombrero kind of place. |

I am SOOOOOO busy right now. But I am taking a break and posting this real quick. It's another case of post it while I'm semi-happy with it, because I've been working with it for many days and I'm not doing anything else. Originally posted on steffan.vox.com |

It's interesting, as the sun gets brighter in san francisco, the images i'm making on the ds are getting more vivid. This is because the sun shining on the screen reflects and I'm picking brighter colors without realizing it. It makes this road sign look pretty neon. Originally posted on steffan.vox.com |

On Vox: Gasworks_30May08
This isn't something I drew, so no kudos to me on this one! Rather, I took a digital picture that Mystery and I took of Gasworks Park in Seattle, converted it from .jpg to .png, downsized it so that it could be brought into the DS, and then I drew overtop of the image, effectively posterizing it and adding some fun scribbley effects. I was seeing if we could bring in photos in this fashion, to work as a starting point. I don't think I'll be doing this regularly, but it is neat to experiment sometimes. The odd thing above the bus, is the Sutro Tower, for anyone who doesn't live in San Francisco. This is at the terminal stop for the 35 line, at the corner of Market and Castro. Originally posted on steffan.vox.com |
