The Last Manga I Thought The Evil Viz Would Ever License
Okay, here's another bit of WTF?-age that apparently happened when I was at sea: Viz has licensed the Kaikan Phrase manga, which they will be marketing under the title "Sensual Phrase." (Dammit, if they can keep the real title of Hikaru no Go, why not the real title of Kaikan?)
Now, for those who are not familiar with the Kaikan Phrase manga, it is *not* like the anime (i.e. the rise of a band of pretty boys to fame, four out of five of which may or may not be in each other's pants). It focuses on Sakuya and Mary Sue -- er, Aine -- and an endless succession of people who try to get in the way of their Twoo Wuv.
And there's sex. A LOT of sex. To the point where you groan, "Oh, God, not THIS again!" It's about as close to Skinemax as you can get in a non-hentai manga.
Not to mention an incest plotline involving Atsuro and his sister, Yuka. They're from a Brady Bunch-type family, but they were *raised* as siblings (which is still squicky in my book).
Oh, boy, is it going to be interesting seeing how the most censorship-happy manga publisher around is going to handle *this*. It is the *last thing* I thought that Viz would go for.
Wonder if the anime will be licensed now, too? This is one instance where I wouldn't mind it being thrown out to the masses (as long as it's not Viz or Pioneer releasing it). It would be nice to see my obscure little fandom finally get some recognition.
