12:11 pm: Leahy is Awesome, Also, Green Stuff
Did You Know:

Vermont Senator Patrick Leahy will be featured in the upcoming "The Dark Knight" Batman movie?

I KID NOT!
Apparently, he talks to the Joker. Go Leahy!

While reading this article, I was a little disappointed to find he voted in favor of the Defense of Marriage Act (a civil union fan, perhaps?)

Also, I found this site today. Tell your friends!

If you're wondering why I was looking up Leahy, it was while looking for info on our congressmen to tell them to support This Bill, which, as a non-driver, I heartily support.

I'll try to have an update on the writing tonight. I was in a bad block the last week or two but it looks like I'm coming out of it.

12:59 pm: Moon Senshi Germany Campaign Update
So, right now, it's looking like Ventrilo is our most likely option. This isn't set in stone yet, but it is my prefferred option and multiple players have expressed a strong preference for this option.

If you CANNOT use Ventrilo, but would like VERY MUCH to be in the game, let me know NOW.

If you haven't heard, I'm starting up the Germany campaign again. If you're interested, please say something! There are still a few people who were in the old game that haven't said anything.

The Germany campaign is OPEN. That means that ANYONE can be in it, as long as I don't hate them and they can make games regularly.

So.

What is Ventrilo? Ventrilo, or Vent, is a VOIP service. That means that we all hook up to a server with headsets or other microphones, and the server transmits our voice into a conference-call like scenario where we can all hear each other. If you've ever played WoW or another MMORPG, you're probably familar with the concept of doing this in raiding. It's a lot like an AIM chat or discussion, only you're speaking instead of typing. If you're certain you're going to be in the game, I recconmend going ahead and downloading it. It has versions for every OS but Linux, and it works with Linux if you download WINE. (I tried this on my Ubuntu machine and it seemed to work nicely.)

Right now I need to start determining people's schedules. When can you make a game (or can't make a game, if that is an easier to communicate statistic)? If you live outside of EST, please tell me so I can adjust for your time zone in determining a schedule.

More info about the game will be forthcoming as I examine who can make it. I will probably build the game around the players who can come.

I will probably be using a stats system this time, probably FUDGE because it's lightweight and easy for me to use. If you don't want to deal with stats, you can give a write-up of your characters powers' and I can make them for you.

Right now all this info is very tentative, so there's still plenty of wiggle room for change.

Whew. It's been a little while. I have been working on this stuff, just not enough to merit continual posting. I will admit, I've been slacking off pretty bad with Moon Senshi, but I hung out with a lot of people this week and I didn't end up getting to it until this Sunday.

Wall*E. Proof that even kids movies can get me pathetically morose. )

Fubuki goin' off in unexpected directions... )

Also, Between Kingdoms features turtle people Chimera at the request of John. It does not, however, call them "Kupaw." Sorry John. :-)

Anyway, I have piping tomorrow. Learn' Hector the Hero. wish me luck!

Between Kingdoms Progress:
Words 93,000/≈200,000

Oh! I got you going. You thought I was gonna talk about something totally wicked like Iron Man vs. Hulk. Now that would be wicked. But I'm not.

But I did see The Incredible Hulk today. I really enjoyed it. Bruce Banner is kinda cute. (What!? Shut up!) And if you're wondering, there are some tie-ins to the upcoming avengers movie!!! I won't spoil it for ya. But look forward to it.

And Remember: You wouldn't like him when he's hungry.

Okay, onto Moon Senshi. Hear me talk about Sailor Eris, and Moon Senshi Germany! )

speaking of....Germany campaign! )

So I figured if I'm going to be babbling about Between Kingdoms, I should give people a run down on what the heck it's about. Maybe writing my thoughts out on, y'know, what the f**k my novel is about will also make me less stupefied the next time someone asks, "So, what the f**K is this novel about, anyway? Y'know, the one you spend most of your time on?"
So, what the is the plot? )

So what are the themes? )

So how about the characters? )

Phew. That was a lot of work. More chara profiles as I get...more charas!

Now excuse me gentlemen....I'll have the veal picatta. (falls over, dead tired)

Episode Fifteen progress:

Pages 10/≈30
Words 5000/≈16000

Between Kingdoms Progress:
Words 90,000/≈200,000?

Ha ha. I made a pun.

*sound of crickets chirping*

So, one of my main party characters, Whatz, is a bit of a conundrum for me. We have kind of an on-and-off relationship. I mean that in a squeaky clean way. I can't decide how I feel about his character. (If you care, he comes from a world where stout people dwell underground and he has a drinking problem due to academic failure.)

(This world is really way more creative than it sounds. I swear.)

One minute I'm all, "Whatz sucks. This character is stupid and bland. he has no flaws. He doesn't act drunk enough for someone who's supposed to be drunk." Then the next minute I'm all like "Whatz is an awesome character! Most people just play the idea of a dwarf-like race drinking for laughs, but he's a serious treatment! It's a Twist on the norm(tm)!"

There is a lot I like about this character. I like how his sorrow in life isn't centered around something ominous, sudden and life-shattering, like the death of a parent, a war-time tragedy, a physical defect like blindness. It's failure--the problem so many older people have where things just go wrong, and they go wrong, and then they go wrong some more--but it happens slowly, it happens partly because of the choices you've made, and it leaves a much more bitter taste in your mouth.

Instead of Whatz being young, I like how he's old. When a young person has this kind of failure in their past, it somehow feels conquerable to the audience, to the character even, no matter how much the dark angsty character puts up the pretense of "Oh, I'll never amount to anything."

I think, when you're old, it just stings. Because then everyone believes you'll never amount to anything.

Maybe, hopefully, even the audience.

If I'm lucky.

Moon Senshi stuff

Meanwhile, on the Moon Senshi front, I'm including more Sailor Quartet scenes. I've decided. It's happening.

Originally, I was gonna have them spirit off pretty quickly (and no, I'm not telling anyone any more than that) but I decided that was totally lame. I already feel like I've jipped them as characters.

So I'm bring them into the forefront first. We'll get little hints of what's going to happen to them later, but it probably won't pan out until the end of the Arc, maybe a bit earlier depending on how far I get with them as characters.

There's a picture in the fifth artbook of Saturn, Chibimoon, and the four Asteroids. In the commentary she writes, "One of these days I'm going to put this team together into the manga. "

I thought that was a pretty cool idea. It's already happened to some extent (with Saturn being a "teacher" in arc 1 while Chibi-Usa and the Quartet go to school) but I'd like to do a little more with that idea, extend it some during Sailor Nemesis' time before the Quartet makes their grand exit (no, I won't be axeing them. I like the Quartet too much for that!)

So it looks like Hotaru will be making a return as a teacher at Goban. Probably to keep an eye on the Nemesis threat while still giving Usako (aka Chibi-Usa) some measure of independence and control over the proceedings. I'm looking forward to writing some of these scenes.

I also have the Quartet working more "behind the scenes" at the Crystal Palace, which means they'll going to meetings in Princess dresses. My newest scene has them talking with Lady Serenity before they go to talk with Senshi Warriors about the Nemesis threat.

Then I realized, My god, the Quartet hasn't a thing to wear!!

So I designed them all princess gowns. I'm actually really proud of them. I'll probably do a watercolor painting of these designs at some point.

In the meantime, my authorly ramblings are over.

12:58 am: Kazeko & Seisui scene
Episode Fifteen progress:

Pages 9/≈30
Words 4000 / ≈ 16000

It's especially interesting to me how Seisui and Kazeko have become something akin to friends. I say something akin because it's not like they're friends, exactly...it's almost like they share a mutual discomfort and loneliness with their surroundings, and turn to each other for advice.

If you had suggested to me that these two characters would have become in any way close when I first started writing Moon Senshi, I probably would not have believed you. Certainly I wouldn't have when I ironed out the fanfic version of Kazeko's character. Here you have a character who is totally devoted to the Sailor Senshi as gods. She thinks they're the living embodiment of celtic gods that are thousands of years old. And here you have another character who destests those same gods and wants to kill them.

But what brings them together is that for everyone else, especially Church of Serenity members, is that Titan isn't like other Sailor Senshi. She is evil, she is dark, she is some kind of hideous other. To Kazeko, she too is a goddess, a peer among the great ones, and to be respected for that.

Kazeko understands that darkness is power, and darkness is part of life. She respects that. And it allows her to eventually see the humanity in Sailor Titan, the humanity that Celtic gods possess that the churchgoers of the Church of Serenity do not see in their idolization of the Sailor Senshi.

Kathy out.

Episode Fifteen progress:

Hello all!

Now that Moon Senshi is alive again, I thought I would start using this journal to post updates.

Eventually I'd like to insert it into the site grid (I'm pretty sure this is possible) but for now I'll do it with my regular bare-bones LJ.

I downloaded a journaling program on Ellywick (as well as the usual one I use on Cephiro) so I could do it more easily, since I usually write in Ellywick (laptops = writing on the couch = more comfy.)
