Dear Everyone-

Punk Q. Maneuverability successfully maneuvered this story all by her lonesome, and it is not only PACKED END TO END WITH SEXY SEX but it's also adorable and awkward and marvelous and has CHLOE in.

It is also important to note that I did *not* come up with this story's (perfect) title, but I will gladly take responsibility for it, as it is both Sabbish and Punkish and PERFECT and I love it and it's right up there with "Traveling with Children."

I was supposed to beta this story, but thanks to a charitable grant from the state of Wyoming I had to write standardized test questions instead, considering it's already the, what, fourteenth? Fifteenth? and we still can't pay our rent despite being six people living in a wee small duplex, and, anyway, I want to thank the Academy, namely Ms. Millicent B. Cupcake Maneuverability, for allowing me this sabbatical to seek my fortune.

If you EVER LOVED ME, you will read this story and feedback Punk. You will send REAL E-MAIL FEEDBACK, just like in the GOOD OLD DAYS, and Punk will write back and it will be the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

Nobody, not even the rain, is as sexy as Lex Luthor as written by Punk M.,
Love,
Sab

i feel here i should publicly testify that Ms. Sabine's neglect is despite my valiant, threatening efforts to the contrary. however now she thinks she is invulnerable just because she has a bodyguard and so it did no good.

all that aside, i can testify that PUNK is absolutely good for one (1) or possibly more (~>1) beautiful friendship(s) sparked by feedback. and i have no idea WHEN it was that i learned that exactly but it was a long goddamned time ago and the best reading i still do is when she sends me clark and lex, five hundred words at a time.

i'll stop now before i start sounding like stepford cheerleader chloe. GO PUNK.

You did SO offer this title, perhaps in your sleep, but in e-mail all the same. Right next to "An Election Year." So I thank you for that, and also for your fabulous plea for contributions and support at the polls.

Now, please pay your rent and return to us, here, on the internet.

::crying with happiness::

I thought I was done with SV fandom (though I'm still watching, mostly out of inertia, salted with fear of regretting it should I stop), largely because neither the fandom nor the show are what they were when I first came to love them.

But here is a wonderful, WONDERFUL story that feels like it could have been written during Smallville's first spring, fresh with the flush of enthusiasm for the newly-born CLex love.

Loved this story so much. I would list the parts I liked best but I would go so far over the characters-per-comment limit...

Somewhere in the middle of this I just wanted to weep for the brilliant characterization and the hotness, oh god the hotness. Like [info]buggery I've pretty much washed my hands of SV, but when I saw this pop-up on my flist it was like offering free crack to a recovering junkie. The sex was to die for and your Lex is just [insert flailing here]. This was just brilliant and amazing and thank you so much for finishing the story that ate your head. :)

Mmm, I've never been called a crack dealer before. I like it.

The sex was the hardest part to write because Clark and Lex insisted on fighting all the way through. Like sex isn't difficult enough to write to START with.

Thanks for the great comment.

Wow, this was fantastic.

Lex was just so... Lex, contrary and difficult and still so very sexy.

For the first time since crashing into Lex, Clark finally understands what all the drama is about. Lex is afraid of being alone. He's afraid of not being alone. He's afraid of pity, of being second best, of being used, forgotten, misunderstood, unloved. Lex, like everyone else on earth, though he'd unleash an army of lizards and antelopes on you if you ever suggested such a thing, is just afraid.

This would have to be my absolute favourite passage, but there were several more that I loved.

Chloe and Clark were brilliant also.

I pretty much just loved the entire fic.

And there he is, contained in just one line.

Lex probably thinks he's smiling, but he's not.

It's late where I am and I lack the basic awareness of my surroundings that's needed to tell you how wonderful this is. I found the Lana descriptions touching. And I usually hate that stupid 'ho(that's a joke). And Chloe was happily well-adjusted. And Lex and Clark were, as they always are in your work, perfectly themselves, even more so than they could ever be on the show. Once again, and always, thank you.

Ok this is going to be mushy...

I love that Lex loves Clark to the extent of buying him clothes, getting him a hot car and advising him how to get lucky with Chloe. I further love how Lex is not able to stop himself from staring at Clark's ass while a camera taking pictures and both Chloe and Clark's mother are right there.

I love how you write friendship dialogue and how you write hot Clark and Lex getting-it-on dialogue. And poor unloved Lex characterizations where he protects himself with all his brain cells. And Clark who sees through this even if he needs Chloe to point out which way is up.

I also want to tell you how much I love 'Freshman Orientation' and 'Domestic Relations' But there is not enough room. In all of LJ.

I do not find this feedback mushy at all. I find it to be wonderful and grin-inspiring. *g* See?

I think it's fair to assume that Chloe would eventually get tired of Clark's cluelessness and push him at Lex. And canon will support Lex's crazy powerful love. He's always giving Clark presents and pushing him at girls and staring at his ass.

Okay, have read it. Clark in brown! With the hat. I like the hat. "Puddle of mom"! And I need to see Chloe in that dress; Chloe is so totally awesome in this story and I love her. And Lex! With the mood swings. And the. And then there was petting! Beautiful, beautiful petting. I like Chloe cuddling up to Clark: squee, adorable.

Lex is seriously the most unbelievably hot entity person thing in the universe. really. And Clark needs LOVE and he GETS love and there is just generally so much LOVE. in every direction! And a sex scene that makes me giggle and sniffle (though, um, not at exactly the same time) and then petting. petting!

I cannot get over the petting. Lex is like, "Tender soppy things!" and Clark is like, "Okay, now I feel better," and I am like, "You guys are so. MTB. OMG."

(And then he skips CIVICS! omgHEART.)

Hee! Oh, all the stress of battling Lex is worth it if I get such wonderful feet-kicky glee from a reader.

The petting was KEY because Clark was so worked up and he was was just getting angrier and angrier, so I told Lex very seriously that he needed to Make Things Better. For once he actually listened to me.

And I figured after a year in Paris, even Lana would be less annoying and wear less pink. I wanted to import Jason, too, but couldn't cram him in. Just know that he's around somewhere, being a good boyfriend.

I read this when you posted it, and I'm terrible because I didn't immediately hit the comment button and start gushing. I will now try to make up for that:

First off, I have to say that there are very few people on LJ whose work reads like yours -- like the actual work of a genuine writer. I gather that you put a lot of time and thought into a finished product, and it shows in all the right ways, but what I'm really referring to is the fact that each polished section is part of a really amazingly balanced arc. Like this:

It took a few years, and a dozen turns as Lana's yo-yo, but he's finally learned not to confuse friendship with love.

Man. That's the thesis statement of the entire fic, just slipped in there so innocently. Because Clark hasn't learned this, not yet. But he will.

"What is that?" Clark asks, turning back around and leaning against the window frame, arms crossed over his chest, hat low over one eye.

Mmm ... just. Mmmm. I want to see this.

"Don't worry. It's just an act."

She laughs. "I hate to tell you this, sweetie, but that's how it starts."

Ouch. Too true. I hope Clark's listening.

"It's tradition, Clark. In ten years we have to look back on this and cringe."

I love your Chloe. So much.

his voice doesn't break and her smile doesn't change

Ah, stasis with Lana. Is it too much to hope for?

watching Clark with his usual sense of entitlement.

'entitlement' is the perfect word for it.

It's nothing like he'd dreamed. It's flat and horrible and frustrating, like spending four years studying for a test and getting the first question wrong.

What a refreshing and realistic change from the usual 'it was perfect/like coming home/all their lives/forever in love' first kiss we're always reading. Lex would fight this moment, fight that romance and the chemistry between him, and he'd do it because he knows it would throw Clark off.

Now I have to go to class, but I'm posting further gushing on the whole porn thing later tonight. *hugs* LOVEITOMG.

You got me! I totally slipped that thesis statement in under the radar. I like to have a point to my fics, and when Clark's the narrator, they usually show up way before he's ready to understand them. Like here, when he said that about the yo-yo, he could only apply it to his relationships with Lana and Chloe, not with Lex. Clark is slow, but steady, and I love him for it.

As for the awkward first kiss, I have to give credit to [info]iamsab for pushing me to make Lex more guarded, less open to Clark's advances. It really changed the whole mood of the sex scene.

You know what I loved about this? Really loved, like I'd lay down my own life to protect it?

Not the hot boysex, no, though it was generous and luxurious and HAWT and healing to the spirit, like they should take those dumb "Chicken Soup for the Soul" books and rip out all the pages and staple your fic inside instead.

Not the Not-a-Jerk!Clark or the Oh-So-Alluring!Lex, no, even though I want to pet them and kiss them and name them George.

No, I REALLY loved that you gave Chloe a happy senior prom. You gave her a nice dress and a nice car and a nice-looking date and a slow dance and plenty of punch and a Superman who didn't take her heart and grind it beneath his heel. And when she lets him go, it's of her own free will and it's from contentment and love.

She got her one perfect night. Dammed if she doesn't deserve it.

Yes, yes, yes. Chloe's my girl. For the longest time I've had vague, murky, terribly unclear plans to give her an excellent boyfriend, and make Clark just jealous enough that Chloe feels totally vindicated. It needs more of a plot though...maybe a nice MOTW to go along with it. I could totally do that.

It's funny, I mostly started reading Clark/Lex because I have this big trust kink, and I love all the possibilities that can be written in a murky post-early-SV-future that gets merged with DC-knowledge.

And yet? Boys in love with family and friends all around? A very very good pick me up.
