I will spill all the lovely wonderful details later...ok - as in tomorrow or Friday later...but still it will be later.

I'm SO happy I can't even put a damn speck of it into words yet.

I'm also in pain and swollen from the tooth taking that happened a few hours ago. Here's a few teasers...

my sister and her husband are absolute RIOTS

He loves me so much!

And now back to your regularly scheduled friends page...

So yesterday, I was not in work because I went to Roy's memorial service - it was insanely, wonderfully packed full of people. Such a likeable and interesting person - I wouldn't expect any less. One of his son's got up to speak - it was very heartfelt and touching...although I was surprised because it was the son that saw him the least in the past few years - and his son that he always appeared to be closer to didn't speak. the other speaker was Charles, and I thought it was a very strange speech - about how Roy was a "great american" and it seemed more about Charles and his opinions (what else is new) than it was about Roy as a person. He could have touched a different nerve if he had talked about what a "great man" he was instead.
Anyways, we stayed to see Sylvia, Roy's wife at the reception afterwards, and then Ron & I headed back home.

Ron's glasses (which he should have taken to be fixed months ago), snapped in half yesterday. Because of the memorial service he didn't have time to get them fixed, and he needs new ones anyways so now he has to wait until Saturday to see the doctor and get a new prescription. Part of me wishes wants to go with him because he's not always the best at picking out things for himself, and I am not too sure how he'll do picking out something that will be on his FACE.

We had dinner at Qdoba before the Colin Meloy show last night. Laura Viers opened - and though she was good...I had zero emotional response to her music. Her voice reminded me of the singer from the Sundays (good thing), she used a jam-man like looping device on a few songs (good thing), and she had a really unique guitar playing style (good thing)....but she just didn't make me FEEL anything.
Before Colin came out, they set up 2 acoustic guitars, and a small round table with a bottle of red wine, a wine glass (very chalice-like), a red tablecloth on the table, a model ship and a skull. Just a little bit of ambiance ;)
Turns out the skull was named Cheryl (ha ha) and she was there to remind us all of our iminent demise. He made several comments about Cheryl during the course of the night - I need to find out if the show was taped because I must have a permanent record of it - it was hilarious.
He was absolutely perfect. The right mix of geeky, attractive, obviously once an English major, intelligent song-writing and performing. He was endearing and would do silly things like encourage the audience to sing the string parts of the songs. His in between banter was natural and hilarious. He had a command of the stage, and he really had the entire audience in the palm of his hand. He did a number of Decemberist tunes (to perfection), a few songs from his first band which were really lovely, a few NEW Decemberist tunes, and ended the night by unplugging his acoustic, standing away from the mike and leading the crowd in a sing-along of Ask by The Smiths. :) I can't remember the last time I left a show feeling such a full heart.

an update on that sony bmg thing

SONY RECALLS XCP CDS

In the face of criticism, Sony BMG announced yesterday that it is recalling the
CDs with the copy-protection software XCP, which installs hidden files deep in
PC users' Windows operating system. Among the twenty affected titles were TREY
ANASTASIO's "Shine," NEIL DIAMOND's "12 Songs" and CELINE DION's recent
greatest-hits package. The move comes in the wake of at least two viruses
unleashed by hackers that take advantage of a security flaw created by the
software. "Sony is basically treating its customers like criminals," said
Windows expert Mark Russinovich, who first discovered the hidden files. Sony BMG
reportedly plans to copy protect all of its CDs by next year.

Boycott Sony-BMG

So Ron just came across this post online...

"Found this on a trading message board kinda scary:

I just read on Bluegrass Works that Sony has secretly inserted rootkit software on consumer's computers when the consumer plays certain music CD's on the Sony-BMG label. This software prevents the consumer from copying the music CD, but it also slows down your computer and makes it vulnerable to crashes and third party attacks. You can read the full report on Cybergrass magazine or you can click on the subject matter in today's issue of Bluegrass Works. I appreciate Bluegrass Works and Cybergrass for making me (and others) aware of this issue. I do not appreciate Sony for secretly installing this stealth software on their music cd's. I do not appreciate Sony's refusal to identify which artists' cd's contain this secret software and I do not appreciate Sony for even attempting to do such a thing. I do not care WHO the artist is. I will never again buy ANYTHING recorded on the Sony label. If you care about your computer's security, you will not buy anything from them, either. I wonder if any other record companies are doing this, and if so, who are they? If I were a recording artist and my record company was doing this, I would be absolutely livid. It does not take a rocket scientist to realize that sales will decrease dramatically when consumers discover their favorite artist(s) CD's contain secret, stealth software which will damage their computers "

I went to Cybergrass Magazine and found the actual article. I find this practice disgusting. People that actually pay for their music should not be punished in such a way.

http://www.cybergrass.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=1327

I've also included the link to how the CDs with this software may be marked...so keep your eyes peeled music fans!

Your ideals are mostly spiritual, but in an individualistic way. While spirituality is very important in your life, organized religion itself may not be for you. It is best for you to seek these things on your own terms.

Things are pretty quiet at work this morning. I hope this isn't a sign of the week to come.
[info]maidenmember's testimonial was on Friday - it was a good time!! I slept in on Saturday, which is an absolutely unheard of thing for me, until almost 11. I am always up with the birds in the morning, so it was nice to catch up on my rest. My neck and shoulders have still been bothering me, though last night I iced it for a while and it seemed to help a little. We drove to the Embassy in Waltham on Saturday to see 2046. It is the followup (I wouldn't use the term "sequel" for this particular movie) to In The Mood For Love, which is one of my all time favorite movies. 2046 didn't disappoint. I really think that no one shoots a movie like Wong Kar Wai - visually his movies are just in a league all of their own. And I was absolutely floored by Ziyi Zhang. I have seen her in a handful of movies, but I have never seen her act with such an incredible depth of character. She was like one part Holly Golightly, with this ball of fire inside of her. I really was impressed with her. (and she looked gorgeous!)

I was also really impressed by Faye Wong, who I don't believe I have ever seen in anything before.
After that we just hung out, watched tv, blah blah blah. We decided we were both tired and were just going to stay in, when Muzi called around 8. He was having a few people over, very low-key...so we decided that what the heck? And headed over. I don't think we've seen Muzi & Kim since their wedding last summer. We only stayed out until around 11, just had a few beers and got caught up. I've decided that I can't take offense to the fact that Kim barely responds when you speak directly to her. There were other friends of theirs over, and it was the same thing with them as it is with us. I mean, we've known Kim since she first started going out with Muzi & I never knew whether or not to take it personal. Sometimes, when Jake is around he can get her to be more chatty - but I really just think it's her personality.
On Sunday we drove up to Nashua to get my sister a baby shower present before the invitations get mailed, did a few errands near home and went grocery shopping. That was pretty much our day. I did some cleaning around the house after Ron went to practice and that was pretty much it!

HBO cancels 'Carnivale'
Wednesday, May 11, 2005 Posted: 8:07 AM EDT (1207 GMT)

LOS ANGELES, California (Hollywood Reporter) -- HBO has pulled up stakes on "Carnivale," opting not to order a third season of the circus-set Dust Bowl drama.

Prospects for a "Carnivale" renewal have appeared bleak since the sophomore season wrapped in March; the show didn't increase its viewership, and series creator/executive producer Daniel Knauf already signed on to produce a series for the rival Showtime cable channel.

"We have decided not to renew 'Carnivale,' " said Carolyn Strauss, president of entertainment at HBO, in a statement. "We feel the two seasons we had on the air told the story very well and we are proud of what everyone associated with the show has accomplished."

I have never been so upset about a TV show getting cancelled in my life. There was just something so SPECIAL about it. It's going to make seeing Tim DeKay & Adrienne Barbeau in the fall so bittersweet.

i love my life, but i hate my fucking job. hate it. i hate these people. i hate how they treat me. i hate overhearing them talk about me.

i'm not some awful catty person. ESPECIALLY not at work. i'm nice, i'm kind, i do good work. i'm no dummy. and yet it feels like job after job i am punished for something i just can't comprehend. is being nice a sin in the working world? is the only way to get attention to be the catty, gossipy person?

i mean c'mon i work with people who tuck football jerseys into their jeans...that's more of a crime than anything i do. ;) i should have gotten photographic proof today, it really is priceless.

i wish i didn't need money to live and to have the life i want. i wish i could find some mindless job that would not require an hour and a half commute (each way) to a hellllholle.

ok, i'm doing something that i haven't done in a long time. i'm purging my friends list
in some cases it's about people that i don't see posting very often.
in some cases its about enjoying keeping my private life private, and i do not want to feel like i ever have to censor myself here.
in some cases its just my choice.
i hope you all can respect that and please don't get upset if you are cut.
