1. today's entry in the "i'm not new to fandom, but" sweepstakes: i can't read spn deathfic. well, sam/dean deathfic, to be precise. i haven't ever had that experience in a fandom before. it might not be my favorite thing, but if it's a good story, i'll read it, pretty much no matter what. apparently, in this fandom, this is not true.

so bizarre.

2. the wisplet has decided to not only break our (mostly unspoken) "our-fannish-paths-shall-not-cross" truce by raiding my fic rec posts looking for things to read, she is now going through my delicious links. i discovered this because she left herself signed into delicious, and there's only one possible place that child is finding old buffy stories. I CRY.


i'ma go eat dinner and try to ignore the fact that my children... aren't, anymore. sigh.

i was all set to rant today about john mccain's lack of calling the people in his audiences on their bullshit. and then i woke up (literally; i fell asleep with the tv on) to this: mccain defends obama, gets booed.

it should have happened sooner, senator. much sooner.

for several reasons, i have been awake since a quarter after four, even though i only (finally) fell asleep at around12:30 or so.

i've been rewatching spn, yes, yes. and i get to all hell breaks loose and just... stop. i watched s3, 1 and the rest of 2 in like, six days, and then nothing. can't do it, can't put it in, can't watch sam die and dean go all heartbroken and "well, then LET IT END". and it surprised me. i mean, what? what is this shit? it's not like i don't know what happens, for crying out loud! I DO NOT UNDERSTAND MY OWN RESISTANCE. hoi.

so. awake, middle of the night. obviously, some sleeping issues happening here, and i go ahead and put the disc in and watch. and by the end of ahbl pt. 1, i am curled up in a little ball on my bed, stomach just aching. SAMMY. DEAN. BOYS.

I AM SO LAME, OMG.

Uhm and it's nice because his feelings aren't hurt if I walk in and go like "Dude, get out of here i'm going to sleep." and if he walks..if we walk in and hes like "Dude, I gotta crash." I'm like cool and you know, i'll play nintendo by myself or something...with two tears. [another inaudible comment] But uh, thank you, thank you i'd love that [or i've done that]. But it's been nice, it's been nice because we work so hard and we get a chance to work on our stuff and so, it's nice. I'm saying with 7 and a half episodes I do, when I see y'all guys next time I might be like "I'm gonna buy him his own house" - i'm just kidding. "Get him away from me!" Uhm wheres the mic?

1. if jensen lives downstairs and jared lives up, where exactly does jensen have to get out of in order for jared to go to sleep?

seriously, if i didn't know better, i'd think fandom made them up and they became real just because we wanted them to be. ♥

okay, so obviously i've been experiencing a bit of a supernatural fannish resurgence. as a result, i've been trolling links on spnnewsletter -- both old and new -- for commentary on the show, and there's something that i've seen quite a bit that's got me wondering.

i keep reading where people say that this "isn't the show i signed up for", but in the last week, i've watched the first two eps of s4 twice, s3, s1, and now i'm about halfway through s2, and i'm not seeing any kind of large, jarring thematic shift. in fact, the wisplet (my tv partner-in-crime) and i have been kind of amazed at the things we've noticed in earlier seasons that turned out to come back.

(in case you think we're slow -- well, a. we are, but b. it's the first chance we've had to do a rewatch like this... oh, ever.)

just for one example: i just watched houses of the holy and i really don't think i need to explain the echoes/foreshadowing/whatever there. and that's just one ep -- we started seeing hints of the mytharc not all that far into s1. yeah, so many eps were prefaced with dean's line about the family business, saving people and hunting things, but from where i'm rewatching, it just doesn't look like that's all the show was ever about.

if you know me at all, you know i have a for-shit memory, and i didn't take notes because... well, i don't usually going looking for show conversation like this, and i wasn't expecting it. surprise!meta, oh noes! so i'm not looking to *make* an argument here, but i'm well and truly perplexed, so i'd like to hear *your* arguments. why do you say that?

(and i don't do kripke interviews, etc. never did joss ones, either. i don't care what they meant or intended, i only care what i see.)

sarah palin's interview with katie couric is on youtube. and really, is it just me or are there parts of this interview where she just makes no sense whatsoever? i'm trying to follow what she's saying in places, and it's just...there are some make-my-head-hurt levels of wtf in here.

i can't believe there are people who really, truly, honestly think this woman should be veep behind a 73 year old cancer survivor, regardless of her party affiliation. it's like bush the next generation, only i'm assuming she knows how to pronounce "nuclear".
