    Brotha Talk
We had a fantastic evening at The Folk House with Brotha Talk - 4 poets from Manchester. I highly recommend them if anyone fancies booking a poetry show. It was a combination of words, song, and comedy, all based around men's relationships. A kind of boys night in!! But great for the girls too. So lovely to see men doing poetry about being fathers, sons, and the mating game without gratuitous jokes around farting and drinking! Sorry guys. And to be fair I know that you've probably had enough of women talking about men who done them wrong, and flirting. So, top notch night and thanks to everybody who came along and helped make it a fab night.

Am soon going to be running 3 courses plus day workshops at The Folk House, plus 2 monthly writers groups - one at The Central Library, and one at Circle Books in Southville. And with the possibility of running a poetry café. Anyone got any ideas what they'd like to see happen at a poetry café? Am keen to bring some of the US tradition of poetry cafés where poets have the chance to workhsop their performance poetry and to get feedback. Also for page poets, as it really helps to hear your poetry aloud.

So, do watch this space - or website - and mailings - for more info. Meantime, am a bit stalled with my novel. Not sure whether I've got too much happening plus too many characters. Any novelists out there with the same probs?

I would really love to have some time out in someone's shed or some other kind of retreat to get on and finish and to also write some more poetry. Have not written any new poetry for a while and am a bit fed up with my existing ones. Anyone feel the same about their poetry? Or are we like bands who have a few old faves that we mix in with new ones?

Anyone out there then do give me some feedback.

    cheers

    Open Mike last night
Hi everybody, thought I'd post what fun the open mike night was last night. We were rammed and had to turn performers away as we were full within half an hour of opening our doors. The standard was very high - but I think that my highlight was seeing the punk boys again - they won top prize for the best named act of the night - Never Mind The Fuzzbox. Tee hee. They sure are ones to watch! The lead singer did an accoustic rendition of Pretty Vacant in a kind of camp style. And there was the woman who was so like Kate Bush that I remembered how much I love Kate and can't wait to get her new album. Fantastic, weirdly wonderful, one off Kate. I wanna be Kate Bush! Ah, I feel a poem coming. Am performing at Cheltenham Lit Fest on Monday 10th so if anyone is near the Town Hall do come along nd say hi. My top tip for the winner of the UK Allcomers Slam has to be my mate Byron Vincent. Go Byron!

More soon - think I've finally worked out what to post here.

    Enjoy

    Bloggin Bloggo
I still don't think I've got the hang of this. Do I tell people what's going on - events wise? Or do I just waffle on about what's happening in my life? Isn't that like terrible naval gazing and as if I don't have any mates to talk to? C'mon Helen - why not try and join as a friend? Or maybe if I give you my password (not here, obviously) then you can log on and we can have our chat thing which we always thought we might like to do. Eh?? Blah di blah. Blog alog.

    Computa Dyslexia
I just can't get the hang of computers. Afraid my brain not wired up that way. Am the same with cars - must be why I have a 2CV. So, website still not updated. When I finally get this sorted with the aid of Sofia - what would I do without Sofia? Suffer brainmelt, probably. Anyway, when sorted then there will be new pix and a coupld of pieces tidied up. Ah well ... still no friends ... the loneliness of the long-distance writer.

    Too busy to blog
Oh yeah, and H. said that she thought it hilarious that I'm a billy-no-mates (no friends listed ...). Well, is because I don't know if I have to do that before people can post. Drat. Must rush. Bye.

    Good mates
Hi there, I've got such good mates - Sofia to do the website, Helen for feedback, and now Simon is working with me on a very exciting cd ... can't say too much as people always nicking my ideas (sigh). Ah well, suppose that's flattering ... Kids back to school soon so's I can get cracking with my latest novel. AND am trying to sell my house as we need more room now that I'm a fully fledged freelance writer and tutor. Don't forget to check out my courses and reading service. Bye for now.
