Hello Roeno [31 Mar 2005|09:11am]

Episode 1

Hello Roeno

Adam Robbins was a fourteen year old boy who lived in a small town named Lakeland. He was almost six feet tall, had long curl brown hair, and weighed about 180 pounds. Everyone, including his parents, call him Beaver, a nickname he has had since early childhood. Lakeland was only on the map because it was the site of Professor Willow's Pokemon research reserve. Professor Willow observed many different kinds of Pokemon in there natural habitats on his 1000 Acre property. It is morning time on September 28th and Adam is very eager today. That is because new Pokemon licenses are only given out in Roeno four times per year (January 1st, April 1st, July 1st, and October 1st). You also have to be a Roeno resident and be at least thirteen years old. Although he turned 13 on September 3rd of last year, Adam agreed to complete the eight grade before becoming a trainer, due to his parent's constant complaining. Then on July 1st his Dad had been the hospital so he missed that day as well. In just three short days he would finally be starting his Pokemon journey.

So after Adam got done volunteering at Professor Willow's lab, he was walking home near the wooded area north of the road. He looked in it and all he could see was darkness. He felt fear overtake him and he just started walking home. Then he stopped and said,

"Wait a second, if I can't overcome a stupid fear of the dark how do I ever hope to be a Pokemon Master!?"

Just then he turned and ran straight into the woods. He got about fifty yards and then he froze. It was then that he realized that he was not only in a very scary place, but that he was also not alone. He heard rustling in the bushes all around him. Just as the fear overtook him again and he turned to run out, several Pokemon came out of the bushes to block his way.

Now the Pokemon in this wooded area never bother trainers because they are quite weak, but they readily attack humans when they are alone. A Caterpie and a Wurmple blocked his way out. He had no where to go. He turned around to run further into the woods, but as he did a Weedle came flying at him and hit him in the stomach with his stinger. Beaver cried out, "UGH!!!! Somebody, HELP ME!!!!!" and then fell to the ground. Just then a tall skinny man with brown hair and a blue uniform on came running in from the road and sent out a Growlithe. Upon seeing and hearing his Growlithe, the bugs scampered back into the forest. Rick, the town police officer, then carried Beaver back to Professor Willow's Lab. Professor Willow saw them coming and ran out to meet them. He asked,

"What Happened"

Rick Responded, "I think he was stung by a Weedle"

Willow: "Where"

Rick: "In the woods just North of Town"

Willow: "What ever was he doing there?"

Rick: "I don't know but I am just glad I happened to hear him scream or he might have been hurt much worse"

Willow: "Indeed . . . Well bring him inside so I can treat the wound and the poison"

Professor Willow and Rick, carrying Beaver, walk inside of the lab.

. . .

It is now the morning of October 1st. Beaver has been resting at his house for three days now. Professor Willow had said that it would take him three to four days to heal. Beaver had spent most of the past few days thinking about which Pokemon he would choose to start with.

He knew that at Professor Willow’s lab there are three types of Pokemon to choose from. The first is Machop. This is a medium sized fighting type Pokemon that looks like a human. It is obsessive about body training and uses strong physical attacks. The second is Ralts. It is a small psychic type Pokemon. It uses its mind to make strong special attacks. The third is Mareep. It is a small electric type Pokemon that resembles a sheep. It uses static electricity in its wool to make special attacks while using its body to make physical attacks.

As he got ready to go he noticed that he is still really sore. He slowly walked down the stairs to see his mom and dad sitting at the table waiting for him. His mom said,

“Sweetie, come sit down”

His Dad said, "Son, due to the shape your in your mother and I don't think you should go on your Pokemon Journey today."

Beaver responded, "Why . . . not again, not after I have waited so long!"

Janet: "We just don't want you to get hurt.”

Michael: "In your weakened state you could easily be hurt.”

Beaver: "I am going with or without your permission.”

That is when Janet and Michael realized that he was going to go no matter what. Janet, knowing that he had waited because of school and her, nodded her head okay. Then Michael, seeing that he was determined to go and knowing he had missed the last chance because of his illness, said,

"Alright son, you can go. Just be careful and make us proud."

Beaver responded, "Thank you!"

Beaver then gave them both a big huge and told them goodbye. He grabbed his bag and then ran out the door. Just as he began walking towards Professor Willow’s lab Julie called from behind. He stopped and looked to see her run up to catch him. Julie had lived next store to Beaver for about two months. She was about five foot five inches tall, pretty skinny, and had long flowing brown hair. Her and her father moved there when he retired just a few months before. She is also 14, but since she just moved to Roeno she is just now getting her training license. They walked together the mile or so to Professor Willow’s Lab, having to stop several times for Beaver to rest.

When they arrived Professor Willow was waiting for them. He called them into his living room. He set them both down and said,
“You are about to choose which Pokemon will be your first companion on your journey. Choose wisely because your choice will decide your battle style for at least the first part of your quest . . . Now since I am a gentleman, I always let ladies go first so Julie go into the next room and chose your Pokemon. Julie went into the next room. There were three screens, each one having a picture of one of the three starters on it and a red button underneath.

Julie came walking out holding a pokeball and smiling. She walked pass the Professor and looked at Beaver saying,

“I will see you out side”

She then walked out the door. As the door closed Beaver hopped up and started to walk into the room. Professor Willow followed him in to the room and then said,
“See anyone you like?”

Beaver responded, “I still don’t know. I have thought a lot about it and I like special and physical attacks.”

Professor Willow smiled and said, “Why don’t you come with me into the next room”

So Beaver followed the Professor into the next room and sat down at the desk across from him. Professor Willow looked out the window and said,

“Beaver, having you as an assistant this past year has been a real treat. I could have never done near as many studies without you there helping out. I will be forever grateful for what you have done . . . As a token of my appreciation I have this for you.”

He slid a box across the desk. Inside were six custom pokeballs. Each one was brown and white instead of red and white. Also, there was a black “B” where the two halves met and where the clear circle usually was. Beaver, overjoyed, smiled and said,

“This is awesome . . . thank you so much!”

Professor Willow laughed and said. “That is not all I got you . . . I also realized that you have great talent with raising Pokemon. So, instead of letting you choose your own I got you a rare Pokemon to take on your Journey.”

Professor Willow tossed a pokeball over the desk and with a cry a Charmander came out. Beaver, shocked and overjoyed, yelled,

"A Charmander . . . NO WAY!!!”
Professor Willow laughed again and said, “I have to warn you, he is still a low level like the other starts and he is untrained . . . but you shouldn’t have a problem with that.”

As Beaver stared at the Charmander Professor Willow handed him another box. As Beaver opened it Professor Willow said,

“I also told my friend Professor Oak from the far away Kanto region about you. He agreed that you have great talent and potential so he sent this to you.”

Beaver replied, “Wow a Pokedex. I have read about these.”

Willow: “His dream is to make an encyclopedia of all the Pokemon in the world. He hoped you could help with that.”

Beaver: “I will do my best.”

With that Beaver picked up one of his custom pokeballs and retuned Charmander into it. Then he put the remaining pokeballs and the Pokedex in his backpack. As he walled out he turned back to Professor Willow and said,

“Thank you so much for everything . . . I won’t let you or Professor Oak down.”

He walked outside where Julie was waiting for him. As he walked out she said,
“So slowpoke are you ready to go?”

Beaver responded, “Sure, but don’t you want to send out your Pokemon first so we can show them off?”

Julie: “No, you will just have to wait to see who I got, but you are welcome to send your out.”

Beaver: “No Way!”

With that they two of them walked down the road past a sign that said “Now Exiting Lakeland: Have a Great Day!” What adventures await this dynamic duo? Only time will tell.

A Fork in the Road [30 Mar 2005|09:32pm]

Episode 2

A Fork in the Road

It is two days later and Beaver and Julie are just waking up. They slept under the stars in their sleeping bags. They pull out some muffins and sit down on a fallen tree to eat breakfast. Julie looks over at Beaver, who is eating his chocolate muffin eagerly and asks,

“So Beaver . . . are you nervous about all the tough times that are ahead of us on our journey?”

Beaver Responded, “Not at all . . . I am going to be the greatest Pokemon master of all time no matter what it takes!”

Julie: “Well that makes one of us that is confident.”

Beaver: “Don’t you worry . . . I know you will do great. You just have one of those personalities. You weren’t meant to fail!”

Julie: “Thanks Beaver that means a lot.”

Beaver: “Well . . . as repayment CAN I SEE WHICH POKEMON YOU CHOSE?!”

Julie laughed and said, “Only if you show me yours first.”

Beaver scoffs, “Not on your life!”

Julie: “Well then you’ll just have to wait.”

With that the two of them finished their breakfast in silence and began to back up for another day of hiking along Route 1. They had not seen another person or Pokemon in two days and they were beginning to get worried. They both began walking down the road and Julie laughs saying,

“At this rate we may never see another living thing.”

Just then there was some rustling in the bushes near the side of the road. Both Beaver and Julie reach for their belts but then Beaver stopped and sighed with a smile on his face saying,

“I guess I will let the lady go first”

Knowing that Beaver just wanted to see the Pokemon she had chosen, Julie grabbed her pokeball and said,
“Well I guess it is time to show her off . . . GO MAREEP!”

Beaver was in awe as Mareep came out with a cry. Just then a Wurmple came out of the bush. Beaver pulled out his Pokedex and pointed at the Wurmple. It said,

“Wurmple . . . a worm Pokemon, it is of the bug type. In different conditions it can evolve into the bug type Silcoon or the bug and poison type Cascoon.

Julie looked and the Pokedex and got all mad saying,

“Where did you get that?”

Beaver Responded, “Professor Willow gave it to me for helping around the lab. He said him and Professor Oak saw real talent in me.”

Julie: “That is not fair . . . I am so jealous!”

Beaver, pointing at the Wurmple, said, “Don’t worry about it . . . but you better catch that Wurmple quick before it gets away!”

Julie turned to the battle at hand and said,

“Right . . . Mareep, start off with a Thunder Wave attack!”

Mareep used a Thunder Wave attack and stopped the fleeing Wurmple in his tracks.

Then Julie said,

“Good job . . . now that we slowed it down use a Tackle attack!”

Mareep jumped towards the Wurmple smashing into it and sending it flying into a tree. It was obviously warn out so Julie Smiled and reached for her belt. She grabbed a pokeball, reared back, and threw it at the Wurmple yelling,

“Wurmple . . . YOUR MINE!”

The ball hit the Wurmple and sucked it inside. This shook twice and then the clear dot in the center of the ball turned from red to clear. Julie, overjoyed, jumped up and down as she ran to get the ball. She picked it up and held it in both hands. Then she smiled and said,

“I caught my first Pokemon!”

Beaver half smiled but he said to himself,

“Wow . . . she really is good. I will have to try twice as hard now to catch up since I let her catch that Wurmple.”

Then he looked up at Julie and said aloud,

“Congrats Girl . . . come on now so we can find me a wild Pokemon too!”

With that they started down the road again. Julie trips and almost falls over a root because all she can do is look at Wurmple’s pokeball.

. . .

Beaver and Julie have been walking for hours now. It is almost noon and there has still been no sign of any people or other wild Pokemon. Julie could tell that Beaver was getting tired since he had not fully healed from his wound so she said,

“Why don’t we take a rest?”

Beaver, offended, said, “I am not that weak . . . let’s keep on!”

Julie, seeing Beaver wasn’t going to stop even though he needed to said,

“That’s not what I meant . . . There is a stream on the map over that hill and I was going to refill the water bottles while you made lunch.”

Beaver responded, “Well . . . Okay.”

They sat down on some rocks on the side of the road and Julie walked off with a few water bottles in her hands smiling because she was very happy with herself. Beaver watched her until she was out of sight. Then when he saw she was gone he turned, bent over, and started coughing. He was really tired. Just as he did this he heard a voice from behind him say,

“Look at the little weakling . . . Ha and to think I was going to waste my time challenging you.”

Beaver straightened up with much pain and, trying to act cool, said,

“Don’t be so sure . . . I bet I could give you a run for you money.”

The man, a tall young man with long black hair and glasses wearing a long brown trench coat, said, “My name is Jeffery and I am a collector of rare Pokemon . . . So I guess I might battle you if you can promise me that you have a rare Pokemon I would want to see.”

Beaver Smiled knowing that he had caught his attention. He looked at the man and, while tossing his pokeball up and down, said,

“Oh yeah . . . I can promise you that.”

Jeffery responded, “Okay, but don’t you cry when I beat you. So, let’s each use two Pokemon.”

Beaver timidly smiled and said, “I only have one.”

Jeffery laughed and said, “Well I guess it will be a 1 on 1 battle then.”

Jeffery reached to his belt moving back his trench coat and grabbed a pokeball from the back. Beaver could see he had five Pokemon already. Beaver wasn’t scared though. He was determined to win. Jeffery wielded back and threw a pokeball out saying,

“I’ll start us off with a Slowpoke.”

With that a slowpoke came out off the pokeball and just stood there. Beaver pointed the Pokedex at the slowpoke and it said,

“Slowpoke . . . This water and psychic type Pokemon’s nervous system is quite underdeveloped. Consequently, it usually takes several seconds after an attack for this Pokemon to feel it. Be careful, however, it has very high defense against special attacks.”

Beaver laughed and said, “It just looks like a dope to me.”

Jeffery, angered by the statement, said, “We'll see who the dope is! Just send out your rare Pokemon if you even have one.”

Beaver smiled and grabbed his one pokeball off of his belt. He looked at it and said,

“I know it is our first battle but come on now . . . if we work together we can win this one.”

With that he tossed the pokeball out and Charmander came out with a cry.

Jeffery, surprised and the sight, was speechless. He then smiled maliciously and said,

“Alright Slowpoke, use a tackle attack.”

Beaver yelled, “Counter it with a scratch”

Slowpoke flew towards Charmander, but it didn’t move. Slowpoke hit it and it flew back. Beaver yelled,

“Come on Charmander . . . please do as I say!”

Jeffery laughed and said, “Well I knew it was too good to be true. . . Well Slowpoke, let’s finish this . . . Water Gun Attach Now!”

Slowpoke shot a stream of water at Charmander and hit him dead on as he stood up. Charmander fell down and was out. Jeffery laughed and said,

“That was too easy. Now I get what I want.”

He turned and threw a net out from his backpack at Beaver. In caught Beaver and then planned stakes in the ground around him. Then Jeffery grabbed a pokeball and threw it at Charmander. Charmander, being unable to muster any strength, was sucked in and only shook the ball once before he was caught. Jeffery smiled and said,

“Looks like you can add a Charmander to my collection”

Beaver yelled, “You can’t do that! Give me my Charmander back right now!”

Jeffery laughed and said, “Be quite, you are in no position to give orders . . . have a nice day.”

With that he grabbed his bag and began to walk away tossing Charmander’s pokeball up and down. Just as he was about 50 yards away a voice came from the bushes saying,

“So you beat a weak little Charmander. Why don’t you battle my Pokemon? I promise you a good battle.”

With that Julie stepped out of the bushes and smiled at him. Jeffery said,

“Well I guess so.”

Julie smiled and said, “Alright, it will be a two verse two battle. Why don’t you start?”

Jeffery: “Fine then, I choose you Cubone.”

He threw another pokeball out from under his trench coat and out came Cubone. Beaver pointed the Pokedex at the Cubone and it said,

“Cubone . . . this ground type Pokemon is very lonely and untrusting. It takes a long time for it to learn to trust anyone, always hiding behind the skull it wears as a mask. Be wary! It uses the bone it carries as a weapon.”

Beaver looked up at Julie and said,

“Be careful of that bone . . . and please get my Charmander back.”
Julie smiled and said, “Don’t worry I gotcha.”

She then turned and threw a pokeball saying,

“Wurmple, I choose you!”

Jeffery laughed and said, “A Wurmple . . . What a joke!”

Julie “Don’t be so sure . . . my Wurmple will teach you to judge a book by its cover. Wurmple use your String Shot attack now!”

Wurmple shoot silk like string into around Cubone’s legs. It tried to move but fell over. Julie laughed but Jeffery’s face turned stern and then he yelled,

“Cubone, break that weak junk and use a boomerang attack.”

Cubone jumped up off the ground tearing the string off as he did and then he reared back and threw his bone at Wurmple. Julie yelled,

“Wurmple dodge it and use a String Shot at its eyes now!”

Since Wurmple is so small, it was able to jump out of the way and then it used a powerful String Shot attack hitting Cubone right in the eyes. Cubone struggled to tear it off but with not much luck. Just as he pulled it off, his bone came right back to him and hit him in the head knocking him out. Jeffery was both stunned and horrified that he lost the first round. Beaver looked in amazement as Julie battled. Jeffery finally regained his composer and said,

“Nicely played . . . give me one moment to pick my second Pokemon.”

He turned around and threw his trench coat open. He sent out a Pokemon, but no one could see what it was. After a few minutes you could hear him say,

“And for my second Pokemon, I choose my newest Pokemon, Charmander!”

He turned around and out came beaver’s Charmander. He looked different. Not only was he healed, but he looked more confident and motivated. Beaver was disgusted to see Jeffery using his Charmander. Then Julie said,

“Wurmple, start it off the same way again.”

Wurmple jumped at Charmander shooting a String Shot attack at him but Charmander simply shot an Ember back at Wurmple burning through the attack. Jeffery smirked and said,

“Now finish him off with an Ember right at him.”
Charmander shot a rain of fire at Wurmple hitting it dead on and causing it to faint right away. Jeffery stood there very satisfied. He turned to Beaver and said,

“See your Charmander is strong when in the right hands.”

Beaver only looked at the ground in shame. Julie looked at him and said,

“HEY, this battles not over yet! For my next Pokemon I choose Mareep.”

Mareep came out ready to battle. Jeffery commanded,

“Use a Scratch attack now.”

Julie said, “Use a Thunder Wave Mareep.”

Charmander started to charge Mareep, but he was stopped dead in his tracks. Mareep’s Thunder Wave attack had left him unable to move. Then Julie said,

“Great . . . now hit it with a Thundershock!”

Mareep charged up some electricity out of its wool and shocked the disabled Charmander. Charmander fell down but struggled back up trying to still fight. Julie, not wanting to hurt Charmander too much said reluctantly,

“Finish him off with a tackle.”

Jeffery, who had been stunned by her skill in battle snapped back to reality and yelled,

“Charmander use a rage attack now!”

Charmander's tail flame surged but it was moving too slowly. Mareep slammed into Charmander and sent him flying into a rock. Charmander was down. Just then Beaver pointed his pokeball at Charmander and returned him. He looked at Julie with a look of tremendous gratitude. Jeffery, enraged by the loss in battle and of his new Charmander, started to yell,

“You got lucky . . . I want a rematch and I want my Charmander back.”

Julie looked sternly at him and said,

“I don’t give rematches to dirty little thieves.”

Jeffery yelled, “I’ll so you!”

Julie smile saying, “But I do give them what they deserve . . . Mareep use a Thunder Shock now!”

Mareep used a Thunder Shock on Jeffery. He gave out a loud cry in pain and then stood silent for a few second. Then he began to cry and ran down the road in a hurry. Julie and Beaver laughed at the sight and then Julie helped Beaver out of the net. They gathered there things and began to walk down the road. A few minutes later they came upon a sign that read,

“Left: Ciencia City
Right: Oscuridad Village”

Beaver looked at Julie and said,

“I thought about it and it will be easier to earn all the badges if we go to Ciencia Village first.”

Julie smile and said, “You should do that. I think I will go to Oscuridad City. I am tired of all these trees and sunlight. I need to go in the mountains. Plus, you only have to earn 8 of the badges to get into the Pokemon League, so I don’t need to go to Ciencia Village. Seriously Beaver, why would I want to crap my style around all those science nerds?”

Beaver: “Do you really wanna split up.”

Julie: “I think we should . . . that way we can experience different things and raise different Pokemon under different conditions. Don’t worry . . . I will see you around.”

With that Julie gave Beaver a huge and they said their goodbyes. Then Beaver watched as Julie walked off down the right path and slowly faded away from sight over a hill. Then he turned down the left path and said,

“Well I guess that means I am flying solo . . . no worries, I will be the best for sure now!”

He begins to walk down the road staring at Charmander’s pokeball and thinking how great it is to have him back and wondering if he might obey him now. He would learn soon enough.

The Tenacious Treecko [29 Mar 2005|04:27pm]

Episode 3

The Tenacious Treecko

It is mid-morning and once again Beaver finds himself wondering aimlessly through another wooded area. Suddenly he comes walking out of the overgrowth and right out onto a road. He looks up and down the road and to his right he sees a sign that reads, “Route 2: To Ciencia Village.” Just as Beaver let out a sigh of relief, he was a small figure come out of the bushes up ahead. Beaver looked for a second and then he smiled and said,

“A Weedle . . . Not the best but it will do.”

He slowly walked towards the Weedle hoping it wouldn’t notice him, but just as it did he sent out Charmander to battle it. The Weedle saw Charmander and froze in fear. Charmander slowly looked around, snorted, and then laid down to take a nap. Upon seeing this, the Weedle became offended and lost all fear. It readied to attack the overconfident Pokemon. Beaver, after seeing this transpire, sighed and said,

“Come on Charmander, please help me.” Charmander laid there motionless ignoring every word Beaver said. With that Weedle used a Poison Sting attack, flying across the road directly for Charmander. Beaver yelled,

“Charmander, Watch Out!”

Just as the Weedle was about to hit Charmander, Charmander leaped over top of it doing a 180 and then he used an Ember attack. It hit the Weedle dead on from behind without any obstruction. The Weedle let out a cry of pain and fell to the ground barely still conscious. Just then Beaver smiled and grabbed a pokeball off his belt. He laughed and said,

“Well Charmander, looks like you helped out anyways . . . good job.”

Then the turned towards the Weedle and threw his pokeball yelling, “Your Mine now Weedle.” As the ball flew through the air, Charmander used a scratch attack on Weedle sending it flying into the bushes and causing the pokeball to miss. Beaver ran into the bushes but the Weedle had got away. Beaver returned to the road to see Charmander rolling on the ground laughing. Beaver could only look at the ground in shame. Just then several Pokemon came rushing out of the bushes. Within seconds Beaver was surrounded by two Weedles, three Wurmples, and a Caterpie. Beaver looked over at Charmander with tears of fear in his eyes and said, “Please help me Charmander.” Charmander still did not budge. Then the Caterpie jumped up on a fallen tree and let out a battle cry. Just then a Wurmple came flying at Beaver. He cowered in fear remembering the pain from the his previous run in with wild Pokemon, but just as he should have been hit, a Pokemon cam flying out of the trees and hit the Wurmple diverting the Poison Sting attach. The Pokemon landed right between Beaver and the other Pokemon. Beaver pointed his Pokedex at the Pokemon and it said,

“This is the tree gecko Pokemon named Treecko. IT is of the Grass type and will use its speed and wit to avoid its opponents' attacks. It is rarely seen and even more rarely captured.”

Beaver looked up and saw the Treecko running very quickly towards the group of Pokemon almost at blinding speed. Beaver’s still open Pokedex said,
“This is Treecko’s Agility attack. It runs at extremely high speeds causing the opponent to miss when attacking.”

Beaver watched as the Treecko dodged one attack after another slapping its opponents with its tail. After a few minutes, the group of bug Pokemon fled into the woods. Beaver stoop up to walk towards the Treecko, but with a leap, it disappeared into the trees as fast as it had come. Beaver waited a minute and then said, “Treecko is an amazing Pokemon . . . I wish it would battle on my team.” After another minute, Beaver turned to find Charmander still sleeping on the side of the road. He recalled Charmander and then he began to walk down the road towards Ciencia Village.

* * *

Beaver walked for several hours, in silence. It was getting dark and he was now dreading the idea of sleeping in the woods again with the wild Pokemon. Just as he thought of stopping for the night, he heard a boy’s voice yell, “Beedrill, Poison Sting attack now!” Beaver stuck his head through the bushes just in time to see a Beedrill drive his stinger into a wild Rattata. It was flung backwards into some near by shrubs and it was gone. The boy, a short 13 year old boy, was wearing shorts and a tee shirt with long flowing brown hair hanging from underneath his straw hat. He smiled and said,

“We win again Beedrill. Great Job . . . . now come on back.”

With that he returned Beedrill to its pokeball. Just then Beaver walked out and said,

“Very nicely done kid . . . My name is Beaver, what’s yours?”

The boy responded, “Well my name is Tommy, but enough small talk, let’s battle!”

Beaver smiled nervously trying to think of an excuse to avoid the battle, but just as Tommy was going to send out Beedrill, a women’s voice could be heard from a distance yelling,

“Tommy! Get in the house for dinner right this instant!”

Tommy got real nervous and said, "Well I guess this can wait, I gotta go."

He turned to walk away, but then he looked back at Beaver and said,

“You’re a trainer on a journey right?”

Beaver nodded and said, “You better believe it!”

Tommy: “Man that is so awesome. So where are you staying tonight?”

Beaver frowned and said, “In my sleeping bag under the stars as usual.”

Tommy laughed and said, “I would do anything for that, but I can see where that could get old. So, I gotta idea. Why don’t you stay with me tonight? Then we can have our battle tomorrow.”

Beaver was overjoyed saying, “Really . . . your mom won’t care?”

Tommy: “Not at all . . . she loves visitors.”
Beaver was ecstatic at the idea of sleeping in a bed and eating a home cooked meal. He laughed and said,

“Well what are we waiting for?”

The two boys went inside and walked towards the table, but just as they were going to sit down, Tommy’s mom said,

“You better wash up quick before I have to get angry.”

Then as she sees Beaver she smiled and changed attitudes very quickly. She became super nice and said,

“Oh Tommy, you didn’t tell me that we were going to be having guest.”

Tommy smiled and said, “Yeah mama, this is my new friend Beaver. He is on a journey with Pokemon and I thought he could stay hear tonight.”

She smiled and nodded in approval. The two boys washed up and then sit down for dinner. After dinner, Beaver was exhausted so he said,

“Thank you both for dinner and the place to stay . . . I am exhausted so I am going to sleep now, but I will see you in the morning.”

Tommy’s mom said, “Tommy, be a good host and show Beaver to the guest bed.”

Tommy and Beaver walked down the hall and came to a small room at then for side of the house. Tommy grabbed a pillow out of the linen closet and handed to beaver saying,

“You can sleep hear tonight. I guess I will see you in the morning.”

He turned away, but he stopped and said,

“I was just wondering what is it like to travel all around battling many new people in strange new places?”

Beaver yawned and said, “It is tough but at the same time very rewarding.”

Tommy sighed and said, “I wish I could go with you but my mom needs me to help her around here.”

Beaver put his hand on Tommy’s shoulder and said, “Don’t worry man, your time will come and with that way you battled earlier, you will be great.”

Tommy was relieved and he smiled and walked back down the hall leaving Beaver alone to go to sleep.

* * *

The next Morning Beaver woke up to realize that he had slept into the afternoon. He hurriedly got dressed and then ran down the hall into the kitchen. Neither Tommy nor his mother were home but Beaver did see a note on the counter. It read,

“Tommy, I have gone to Ciencia Village to buy groceries. I will be back late tonight. Be a good boy and guard the crops while I am gone.
Love,
Mom”

Just as Beaver finished reading the note, her heard a loud cry of pain coming from outside. He rushed over to the window to see two large men, one tall and skinny with long black hair and the other short and fat with a bald head. Both were laughing and taunting someone around the corner that Beaver could not see. The tall one said,

“Ha ha, look at the baby cry.”

Beaver peered around the corner and saw Beedrill unconscious on the ground and behind it was Tommy being held down by a human-like Pokemon. He pointed his Pokedex at it and it said,

“Makuhita is a fighting type Pokemon that possesses superior size and strength. Its bulk even protects it against fire and ice attacks. It is a formidable opponent for any challenger.”

Then he saw another bug-like Pokemon cutting down the corn stalks and carrying them to the short man’s feet. Beaver’s Pokedex said,

“This bug and ground type Pokemon is named Nicada. This Pokemon avoids sunlight when possible, but can use its antenna to direct its movements when necessary. During evolution it strangely spawns a second Pokemon as well as its evolutionary form.”

Beaver took Charmander’s ball off his belt and looked down at it saying,

“Okay bud . . . I really need you now.”

With that he ran outside and threw the ball yelling,

“Leave him alone . . . Go Charmander!”

Charmander came out and saw the men staring at him. Then yelled,

“Hit them with an Ember attack now!”

Charmander shrugged and walked off to a near by tree stump laying down on it to take a nap. The men died out laughing and the short one said,

“Okay Makuhita . . . show him what his heroism haw won him.”

Makuhita jumped off of Tommy slamming his face into the ground and flew towards Beaver using a Mega Punch attack. Beaver cowered but as Makuhita was about to hit him, Treecko cam flying out of the near by trees and slammed into Makuhita with a Headbutt attack. It was flung backwards into the corn field and landed on top of Nicada. The tall man yelled,

“What is this? Makuhita, Nicada, show this weakling what pain feels like!”

Makuhita and Nicada came running out of the corn field and attached Treecko. He used his Agility attack making it able to dodge the first several attacks from the attacking duo, but eventually a Mega Punch from Makuhita hit home. After a few more punches from Makuhita and Scratch attacks from Nicada, Treecko collapsed unable to battle. Makuhita and Nicada then turned their sights on Beaver. Beaver cowered once again and began to cry but suddenly his attitude changed. He grabbed a stick and charged the two attacking Pokemon yelling,

“I will not be defeated by the likes of you. Come and get me!”

He swung the stick at Makuhita, but it was broken by another Mega Punch attack. Nicada hit Beaver from behind with a Scratch attack which pushed him into Makuhita’s Low Kick attack. Beaver let out a cry of pain and fell to the ground. The tall man laughed and looked at Beaver saying,

“Nice try kid, but it looks like you were wrong. Now Makuhita, get both these boys’ Pokeballs and bring them to me.”

Then he turned and saw the Treecko lying on the ground. He thought for a second and then said,

“You actually put up a good fight against Makuhita and Nicada. I guess I will capture you as well . . . you will make a fine addition indeed.”

He grabbed a Pokeball out of his bag, reared back and threw the ball at Treecko. As the ball floated through the air, Beaver and Tommy could only watch with disgust at the idea of a horrible person like that catching such a righteous Pokemon. Then, as it began to fall towards Treecko, there was a flash of light and the pokeball exploded. Everyone was astonished, turning to see Charmander standing tall and battle ready. Beaver saw the same swagger and determination in Charmander’s eyes as he had seen that day that Jeffery had battled Julie. The tall man said,

“Okay, looks like another weakling wants a thrashing . . . Go you two and pulverize him. Makuhita use a Mega Punch and Nicada follow up with a Mud Slap attack.”

As they both ran towards Charmander, it let out a cry and then spit out a stream of flames that he moved from one side to the other knocking both his opponents back. This it hit both of the men sending them cowering to the ground as well. All four of them stood up crying and ran away down the road. Beaver smiled and said, “Thank you, now return Charmander.” He returned Charmander and walked up to Tommy, helping him up off the ground. Tommy used a potion on Beedrill and then returned him to his pokeball. He smiled and said,

“Thanks a lot Beaver; that was awesome. I could never beat you, so I don’t want to battle anymore. Plus, Beedrill is pretty worn out now.

Beaver replied, “I’m sure it would be a great battle, but oh well. I really need to get going. I think you can handle it from here.”

Beaver gave Tommy a high five and then he turned to walk back towards Route 2, but Treecko stood in his way. He smiled and said,

“So, you fell like coming along with me?”

Treecko jumped up and down while making cries of joy and enthusiasm. Beaver pulled out one of his custom pokeballs and called Treecko into it. He let out a yell and said,

“I caught my first Pokemon!”

Tommy laughed and said, “But I am sure it won’t be your last.”

Beaver grinned and said, “You better believe it.”

With that he walked off into the distance to his next adventure.

The Mad Scientist [28 Mar 2005|04:58pm]

Episode 4

The Mad Scientist

After a night under the stars, Beaver arrived in Ciencia Village just before noon the next day. He walked through town looking at the many small houses and buildings. Then he saw a large Pokemon lab on a hill in the distance. He continued to walk until he came to the Pokemon Center. He walked inside and gave his two pokeballs to the nurse. While he was waiting for his Pokemon to be healed, he decided to call Professor Willow. He sat at the video phone and dialed in the professor’s number. After a few rings, Professor Willow answered,

“Hello, who is it now?”

Beaver replied timidly, “It’s me Professor Willow.”

Professor Willow lightened up and said,

“Oh Beaver, I am sorry I have just been really busy. So, how are you doing, where are you, do tell.”

Beaver laughed and said, “I already made it to Ciencia Village.”

Willow: “Terrific, and how are you coming with catching Pokemon?”

Beaver smiled and said, “Just yesterday I caught a Treecko!”

Willow: “Unbelievable, a Charmander and a Treecko! And what else have you caught?”

Beaver frowned at the question and said, “Well . . . I haven’t”

Willow: “Oh . . . well you have some catching up to do. Julie already caught six Pokemon.”

Beaver looked down at the ground and signed. Professor Willow said,

“Don’t fret; you have a chance to earn the first badge.”

Beaver perked up and smiled. Then Willow said,

“You should go visit with my colleague Professor Rowan to get advice on how to battle with the local gym leader and then go for it.”

Just then a timer went off and Willow said,

“Well . . . time to feed the Pokemon. It was good to talk to you. Keep at it.”

With that the screen went blank. Just then the nurse came on the overhead speakers saying,

“Beaver, your Pokemon are ready at the front desk.”

Beaver walked back to the desk and got his two pokeballs. He looked down at the to balls and said,

“She already has six Pokemon . . . I need to get the first badge no matter what!”

He walked outside and looked up on the hill at Professor Rowan’s lab. He stopped and said,

“Professor Willow’s advice sounds good, but if I go to see Professor Rowan, then Julie might get the first badge. I can’t wait . . . it’s off to the gym.”

Beaver went down the street past several more houses and small businesses until he was a small research center at the end to of the road. Above the doors was a silver plate with the words “Ciencia Village Gym” carved in it. Beaver walked to the building, took a deep breath, and opened the door walking through. He walked up to the front desk, but no one was there. He looked around but all he saw was a couple of hallways with all the doors closed. He waited a few minutes and then said,

“Well, I guess I will show myself around.”

He began to walk down the right hallway. He walked a few hundred feet and then turned down the left hallway. As he rounded the corner he ran into a man causing him to drop a tray full of test tubes. As they crashed to the floor they shattered everywhere. The man, a tall skinny man who looked about thirty years old, wore glasses and a white research jacket, along with a blue dress shirt, khakis, and dress shoes. He yelled,

“Look what you did! Who are you and what are you doing back here?”

Beaver cowered back for a second but then stood up with confidence saying,

“I am here to challenge the gym leader for a badge!”

The man smirked and said,

“Well my name is Edward and I am the gym leader’s assistant. I will battle you to see if you are worthy of my bosses’ valuable time. So let’s have a one on one battle. If you win then I will show you to my boss, but if I win you have to clean up this mess and then you leave this place.”

Beaver smiled and said, “Okay then, you’re on!”

Edward grabbed a pokeball out of his jacket pocket and said,

“I will begin the battle, Go Gulpin.”

Beaver pointed his Pokedex at Gulpin and it said,

“Gulpin is a poison type Pokemon. It is slow moving, but it can absorb the energy of its opponent’s attacks with its semi-solid body.”

Beaver said to himself, “Treecko’s speed would be good, but he is weak to poison. I guess I will go with Charmander.

He then looked up at Edward and said,

“To battle your Gulpin, I will choose Charmander.”

As he said this he threw a pokeball and Charmander came out with a cry. Beaver yelled,

“Start us off with a Scratch attack now!”

As Charmander charged at Gulpin Edward yelled,

“Fend it off with an Acid Armor attack.”

Charmander slammed its claws into Gulpin, but it simply absorbed the attack. Edward laughed saying,

“Novice mistake, now Gulpin use hit him with an Acid attack.”

Gulpin reared its head back and spit a glob of purple acid at Charmander. Charmander tried to dodge the attack, but it hit him on his side. He fell back but caught himself, looked up, and smiled. Beaver had a revelation and yelled.

“So physical attacks don’t work . . . hit it with an Ember attack now!”

Edward glared at the smirking Charmander as Beaver said this. Just as Charmander gave affirmation to Beaver Edward said,

“Gulpin, wipe that smile off his face with a Pound attack.”

Gulpin jumped at Charmander with an outstretched hand, but Charmander leaped over top of it doing a flip. He fired an Ember attack just as he was completely upside down. It slammed into Gulpin’s back causing him to fall down, but he was not out. Edward yelled,

“Get back up now Gulpin!”

Beaver became confident and said in a determined voice,

“Its guard is down Charmander . . . hit it with a Headbutt attack.”

As Charmander turned he began to run towards Gulpin, and when he was about five yards away he leaped hitting Gulpin from behind as it was composing itself. It fell down and was out for the count. Edward recalled Gulpin and said,

“Very well done Beaver . . . Come with me.”
He turned and began to walk down the hall. Beaver followed him recalling Charmander as he walked. They turn a corner to the right and there stood two large airlock doors. Edward walked up to the intercom by the door and pressed the red talk button saying,

“Boss, we got a hot shot out here who wants a battle.”

A voice cam back over the intercom saying,

“Give me a moment.”

After a few minutes, the doors opened with a decompression sound and a tall, skinny man wearing a white decontamination suit walked out. He removed his helmet and said,

“Excuse me while I change. Edward led our challenger to the arena. I will join him shortly.”

With that he walked down the hallway to the right and disappeared. Edward turned to Beaver and said,

“Follow me.”

He walked forward through some small double doors across the hall and stopped at another set of double doors. These double doors were large and golden in color. In the middle was a silver pokeball with a beaker in the center. Edward turned and said,

“Go through these doors and you will be in the Ciencia Village Gym arena.”

He then turned around and walked out the small double doors. Beaver turned and looked at the enormous doors saying,

“Well here we go.”

He then took a deep breath and opened the doors with quite a bit of effort walking through the doorway into the arena. The arena was lit by several dim lamps spread around the edges. He walked into the challenger’s box to wait for the Gym Leader’s arrival. After a moment, the double doors slammed behind him and several roof lights came on lighting the whole arena. The man from earlier came walking out of a door on the other side of the arena. He was wearing jeans and a white button up shirt with tennis shoes. He looked at Beaver and said,

“Welcome boy . . . my name is Norman. I am the lead scientist at this lab, leader of this gym, and a nationally renowned genius. By challenging me you will be competing for a Microbe Badge. I am required to accept your challenge even though I know you can never win. So, this will be a one on one match. I will start us off with my current research partner. Go pokeball.”

As he said this he took a pokeball from his belt and threw it into the center of the arena. A purple gaseous Pokemon emerged. Beaver pointed his Pokedex at the Pokemon and it said,

“Haunter is a poison and ghost type Pokemon. Little else is known about this Pokemon.”

Beaver sighed and said to himself,

“That doesn’t help much . . . since Charmander is still weak from earlier, I guess I will use Treecko.”

Norman saw him thinking and said,

“Come now boy, no matter which you choose you will suffer grave defeat. I have studied Haunter extensively and he has no weaknesses that you can exploit.”

Beaver, angered by this statement, looked up and yelled,

“I’ll show you, pokeball go!”

He threw a pokeball into the middle of the arena and Treecko came out with a cry. Norman laughed saying,

“An amateur mistake . . . your Treecko will pay dearly for your ignorance. Haunter, use your Confuse Ray.”

Beaver yelled, “Treecko, speed things up with Agility now!”

Treecko began to run quickly from side to side, but Haunter let out a flash of light that bewildered Treecko causing him to trip and fall face first onto the ground. Treecko jumped back doing a flip and landed although he appeared hurt. Norman grinned and said,

“Excellent, now hit him with your Night Shade attack.”

Beaver yelled, “Dodge it and use a Quick Attack!”

Treecko began to run quickly from side to side. Haunter threw two purple balls from his hands but Treecko dodged both of them. Then he leaped flying towards Haunter, moving so quickly that Haunter did not have time to react. Just as he should have slammed into Haunter, he flew strait threw him without damaging him. Beaver could only stand with his mouth gaping as Norman laughed saying,

“Two mistakes, that’s a shame . . . now Haunter, finish it with a Night Shade attack.”

Treecko still had his back turned waiting of Beaver’s command. He was still stunned by Haunter’s Confuse Ray, so his reaction time was down. Haunter powered up and sent two purple balls flying at Treecko. Beaver yelled,

“Treecko, Watch Out!”

Treecko tried to move out of the way, but it was too late. Both the balls of energy hit him dead on from behind. Treecko fell to the ground and was out. Beaver could only lower his head without saying a word. Norman, seeing this, said,

“Ha, what did I tell you? Now take your Treecko and get out of my Gym. He recalled Haunter and left the arena. Beaver looked up with tears in his eyes and recalled Treecko. He turned and walked out of the arena. He took the long walk of shame down the hallways and through the exit. As he walked back to the Pokemon Center to heal his Pokemon, he began to doubt his potential. He said to himself,

“Mom, Dad, Professor Willow, Professor Oak . . . I’m sorry but I can’t do this.”

He walked into the Pokemon Center and gave his pokeballs to the nurse to heal them. He sat down on the couch and began to think of home. He said,

“If I go home, my parents will never let me live this down, but I am just too weak to do this anymore.”

Just then the phone next to him rang. He looked around and then answered it saying,

“Hello, who is this?”

The blank screen lit up and Professor Willow appeared. Beaver tried to cheer up saying,

“Oh, hello professor. How is it going . . . and how did you know I was here?”

Professor Willow responded, “I am good . . . oh and I knew you were there because I get an e-mail every time you heal your Pokemon, and since you are healing them now then I know you were in Ciencia Village. Speaking of which, are you about ready to challenge the gym leader?”

Beaver frowned and said,

“No, I’m afraid not Professor Willow. I just got done with that battle.”

Professor Willow: “Oh, and I take it that things went badly?”

Beaver: “Well, I beat the gym trainer’s Gulpin with Charmander, but then I faced Norman’s Haunter with Treecko. He didn’t just beat me; He demoralized me. I am not sure I can do this Professor Willow.”

Professor Willow laughed and said,

“Nonsense child . . . you are meant for greatness; you will not fail. Besides, if you never lost, where would the challenge be? Even I lost my first gym match, though it seems ages ago. Do not be discouraged. Now, if you have already faced the gym leader, then that means you did not go see Professor Rowan. Listen to me . . . Go see him and he will teach you a few things. Then go see if Norman isn’t surprised by round two.”

Beaver smiled and said,

“Okay . . .. I will rest up tonight and see him in the morning.”

Professor Willow laughed and said,

“That’s the spirit Beaver . . . well gotta go, talk to you later.”

The screen cut off and Beaver stood up alone in the lobby. He looked at the sky through the window and said aloud,

“This is not the end! I will triumph over Norman, and then I will become a Pokemon Master! Watch out Roeno . . . here I come!”

Treecko Tactics [27 Dec 2004|11:54am]

Episode 5

Treecko Tactics

After a night at the Pokemon Center, Beaver woke up refreshed and renewed. He began to walk towards Professor Rowan’s Lab with his head held high while humming the Roeno League Theme Song. After about fifteen minutes of walking, Beaver came to a large iron rod gate. He pressed the call button on the right gate pillar and said,

“Hello . . . Professor Rowan . . . is anyone there?”

After a moment of silence, a deep raspy voice came back over the intercom saying,

“Hello young man, how may I help you this morning?”

Beaver: “My name is Beaver. Professor Willow sent me to see the Professor at this Lab.

Professor Rowan: “Oh yes, come in young child. I have been expecting you for some time now.”

Beaver stood confused by the statement as the large gates began to open. He shrugged it off and began to walk towards the lab’s front door. As he reached to open it, it opened from the inside and out walked a talk robust man in a white lab coat, jeans, and a tee shirt. He had long straight brown hair and he wore glasses as well. He smiled and said,

“So you are the new upstart trainer from Lakeland that Professor Willow spoke of. Do follow me.”

The two walked into the front room and then began to walk down the right hallway. As they walked, Professor Rowan asked,

“So Beaver, did Professor Willow tell you what field of study I am in?”

Beaver shook his head and said, “No . . . he just said that I could learn a few things from you.”

Professor Rowan laughed saying, “Indeed you can young one. In this lab I study the learning capabilities of different species of Pokemon when they are exposed to new attacks.”

Beaver stood there looking confused without saying a word. Professor Rowan continued talking saying,

“Professor Willow also told me that you lost to Norman’s Haunter yesterday.”

Beaver frowned and said, “Yes . . . he beat my Treecko badly.”

Rowan: “I see . . . well, what other Pokemon do you have?”

Beaver: “I also have a Charmander.”

Rowan: “That’s great! Not to long ago I was able to teach a trainer’s Charmander the dark-type move Bite, which is super-effective of Haunter.”

Beaver looked displeased saying,

“No! If I were to use Charmander then Treecko’s spirit would be crushed. If I am gonna defeat Norman, then it will be with Treecko!”

Rowan: “Well . . . there might be a way.”

Beaver: “What is it? I’ll do anything.”

Rowan: “I have an untested theory that high speed Pokemon such as Treecko might be able to learn the dark type move known as Faint Attack.”

Beaver: “Then what are we waiting for?”

Rowan: “Okay Beaver, but remember I am making no promises.”

The two walked out a door in the field behind them lab. Professor Rowan said, “Beaver, send out your Treecko now.”

Beaver pulled Treecko’s pokeball off his belt and threw it saying,

“Go now Treecko. It is time to learn a new attack.”

Then Professor Rowan pulled a pokeball out of his lab coat pocket and released a Teddiursa from it.

Beaver pointed his Pokedex at it and it said,

“This teddy bear like Pokemon is of the normal-type. It may look cute and harmless, but it is actually very fast and it possesses deadly strength.”

Then Professor Rowan pulled a pokeball out of his other pocket and sent out a Gastly. Beaver’s Pokedex said,

“Gastly is of the ghost and poison types. It is the first evolutionary stage of Haunter. Little else is known.”

Beaver laughed and said,

“I don’t think we know much of anything about ghost Pokemon.”

Professor Rowan smiled and said,

“Not yet, but I am in the process right now. Okay, Treecko, watch carefully and imitate Teddiursa’s every move. Teddiursa, use your Faint Attack on Gastly.”

Teddiursa began to glow with a black aura and then began to run very quickly. He jumped over Gastly landing on one foot and then pushing off the ground slamming into Gastly’s back. Gastly was hit by the dark energy and flew back before recomposing itself as if ready for another attack. Professor Rowan said,

“Now Treecko, you try it.”

Beaver interrupted saying, “Wait, won’t that hurt Gastly?”

Professor Rowan: “Oh no, Gastly is at a much higher level than Treecko or Teddiursa so it will be fine”

Beaver shrugged saying, “Go Treecko, use a Faint Attack now!”

Treecko struggled hard and after a moment of deep concentration he began to glow with a black aura. Treecko flipped over Gastly just as Teddiursa had done, but as he launched of the ground at Gastly the black energy disappeared and he simply flew straight threw Gastly without touching him.

Beaver sighed saying, “Not again.”

Professor Rowan put his hand on Beaver’s Shoulder saying,

“Don’t worry Beaver . . . we have all day.”

Beaver frowned saying, “If we take all day then I might not earn the first badge before Julie.”

Professor Rowan grew stern saying, “Listen Beaver, a true Pokemon master goes at his own speed and uses his own methods.”

Beaver nodded and smiled. Then Professor Rowan turned back to the Pokemon and said,

“Now Teddiursa, Faint Attack again. Treecko, watch and learn.”

* * *

After working all morning, Professor Rowan and Beaver are eating some sandwiches in the kitchen. Professor Rowan sighed and said,

“I am sorry Beaver, but it looks like my theory was wrong. At the very best, he may have learned Faint Attack, but he will need to gain more experience before he can use it”

Beaver: “That’s okay . . . I’ll have to find some other way.”

Professor Rowan: “Look Beaver. Treecko is you friend and you showed that you truly care by only wanting to use him, but I think he understands that he is not ready to face Haunter yet. You should let Charmander learn Bite and then use him to battle Norman’s Haunter.”

Beaver sighed and said, “I guess your right.”

The two cleared the table and then Professor Rowan said,

“So what do you say Beaver? Are you ready to teach Charmander the Bite attack?”

Beaver: “I guess we’ll give it a shot.”

Professor Rowan: “Good then, let’s get started.”

The two walked back outside. Professor Rowan turned to Beaver and said,

“Now let’s have a look at your Charmander.”

Beaver grabbed the 1st pokeball from his belt and threw it saying,

“Come on out Charmander.”

Charmander came out with a cry and then scratched his head looking around confused that there was no opponent. Professor Rowan said,

“That is a very good looking Charmander. And as the opponent I once again choose Gastly.”

Professor Rowan took a pokeball out of his right lab coat pocket and released his Gastly. Then he said,

“And as for Charmander’s teacher today, I will use . . . Ekans.”

He pulled a pokeball from his left pocket and released an Ekans onto the field. Beaver pointed his Pokedex and it said,

“This snake Pokemon is of the poison type. It will use a frightening Glare attack to paralyze the opponent before wrapping it with its long slender body.”

Professor Rowan pointed at Gastly and said,

“Ekans, use your Bite attack now.”

Ekans launched itself off the ground with its mouth wide open. As Ekans bit down on Gastly, the same type of black aura that had surrounded Teddiursa was exuding from Ekans mouth. Gastly fell back and then recomposed itself just as it had done before. Then Beaver said,

“Okay Charmander, give it your best shot!”

Charmander let out a cry and then he began running towards Gastly. He jumped with his jaws opened and the same strange black aura surrounded his mouth. He bit down on Gastly and the attack stuck hard. Both Beaver and Professor Rowan let out a shout of joy. Professor Rowan recalled Gastly and then Ekans. He looked down at them and said,

“Great job you two . . . no get some rest.”

Then he looked at Beaver saying,

“Now recall Charmander. I have found that a Pokemon must rest right after learning a move, or he will forget it.”

Beaver withdrew Charmander and said,

“Okay then, we’ll rest a little while and then it’s off to earn my first badge!”

The two of them began to walk back towards the house.

* * *

About two hours has passed and Beaver is walking with Professor Rowan down the road from the lab to the Ciencia Village Gym. They walk through the double doors and up to the front desk. Beaver frowned saying,

“Just like last time. No one is here to help me. I guess I will ring the bell again.”

As Beaver reached to ring the bell, Professor Rowan caught his hand. He said,

“Beaver, just go on back to the arena.”

Beaver shrugged and then began to walk towards the arena. He turned the corner and realized that Professor Rowan was no longer with him. He became uncomfortable, but he was determined. He walked up to the golden double doors blocking his way into the arena and sighed saying,

“Here we go again.”

He pushed through the doors and walked into the familiar dim arena. He built up his courage and yelled,

“Norman, I’m back for a rematch!”

After a moment, the overhead lights came on and Norman walked out. He smirked and said,

“Oh . . . it’s you . . . Have you not realized that my knowledge far surpasses yours? Oh well, I guess I will have to give you another lesson in pain! Go Haunter.”

He reared back and threw a pokeball into the center of the arena. Haunter came out ready for another battle, but when he saw Beaver, he began to laugh. Norman grinned and said,

“See, even Haunter thinks that you’re a joke.”

Beaver tensed up and yelled, “I’ll show you how to really battle. You think you know everything, but you’re really a fool!”

Beaver reached and put his hand on the first ball of his belt. Just as he was about to grab it and release Charmander, he had a flashback to the day he caught Treecko. He saw the battle with the wild bug gang as well as the battle against Nincada and Makuhita. He remembered the pride and vigor that Treecko possessed then and still possesses now. A tear fell from his eye. Norman saw this and said,

“Don’t cry yet, save that for when I stomp you.”

Beaver removed his hand from the first ball and moved it to the second ball. He looked up wiping the tear from his eye and said,

“I don’t need to save them for a time that will never come. I will defeat you here and now!”

He threw the pokeball into the arena and Treecko came out. Norman, shocked by this, shook his head and said,

“You truly have learned nothing! I was at least hoping to face a worthy opponent this time. Oh well . . . Haunter, use a Confuse Ray.”

Haunter let out a flash of light, but Treecko guarded his eyes with his tail. Then Beaver yelled,

“Agility now!”

Treecko began to run quickly from side to side. Norman yelled,

“Haunter, hit him with a Night Shade attack!”

Haunter charged two purple balls of energy, one in each hand, and released them towards Treecko. Beaver yelled,

“Dodge’em and use a Faint Attack now!”

Treecko side stepped the first ball and then jumped over top the second one. He continued to fly through the air over Haunter’s head. As he began to fall back towards the ground, his whole body was covered in a black aura. He landed and pushed off the ground flying towards Haunter, but just as he hit him, the aura went away and Treecko simply soared through Haunter without hurting him. Norman relaxed and then laughed saying,

“Ha . . . it was just a fancy Quick Attack. And to think, you had me worried for about a half second. Haunter, end this with a Night Shade.”

Haunter charged up two energy balls and threw them at Treecko. Treecko jumped in time to dodge the first one, but the second one hit him dead on. He fell to the ground with a cry. Beaver frowned as Norman said,

“Once again, you lose.”

Just then Treecko did a flip off the ground landing in a battle stance. He smiled and let out a cry. Beaver smiled and said,

“Great, now let’s try a Faint Attack one more time!”

As Treecko began to run towards Haunter, the same black aura covered his body. Norman, who was now very irritated, yelled,

“Enough fooling around! Haunter, demolish him with a Shadow Ball!”

As Treecko leapt into the air, Haunter began to charge a massive ball of black energy in his hands. Just as Treecko slammed into Haunters side with the Faint Attack, Haunter hit Treecko with the ball at full force. A large explosion ensued and when the smoke cleared, both combatants were laying on the ground. Norman and Beaver both began yelling for there Pokemon to get up. Haunter gave no response and had fainted. Treecko, however, was struggling to get up. He climbed to one knee three times, but each time he fell down. Just as the match was going to be called a draw, Treecko let out a loud cry as he flipped off the ground landing on his feet. He stood, breathing hard and holding his side, with a smile on his face. Just as Norman recalled Haunter they heard clapping coming from the stands. Out of the shadows walked Professor Rowan who was still clapping his hands. After seeing the professor, Norman bowed his head in shame. Professor Rowan smiled saying,

“Well done Beaver . . . you showed true skill and heart today. By using Treecko, you have preserved his spirit and you still managed to win the badge. That was a remarkable battle that I will never forget. As for you Norman, I expected much more from you. Your arrogance has slowed you training. We will talk later about this.”

With that Norman turned and walked out the door back into this lab. Beaver smiled and ran over hugging Treecko. He took the ball off his belt and recalled him. He turned to the professor again and said,

“I did it . . . I really did it.”

Professor Rowan: “Yes, and you did it well. Now take this and be on you way so that you may realize your true potential.”

He handed Beaver a small pin. It was in the shape of an atom with two electrons floating around it.

“Well, now that I got the Microbe Badge I am really on my way. Thanks Professor Rowan for everything. One day I will repay you.”

Professor Rowan: “Don’t you worry about that now. You just go one to your next gym and your next adventure with Pokemon.”

With that, Beaver turned and walked out the golden double doors and into a new world of possibility.

Episode 6

Cold Hearts and One Track Minds

Two days have past and Beaver has gotten sidetracked again. He had walked into the woods off of Route 4 a while back looking for wild Pokemon, but now he was walking down a small overgrown path. He has been walking on this trail for about an hour and the sun is just now beginning to shine brightly in the sky. Beaver had not battled anyone since he defeated Norman, which is weighing on his mind heavily. With each step, he yerns for a battle. Just as he rounded a bend in the path, he got his wish. He saw a Pokemon running across the road. It stopped and looked right at Beaver. Beaver pointed his Pokedex at it and the machine said,

“Zigzagoon is a normal type Pokemon. It is very common in many areas of the world and makes a great companion for beginning trainers.”

Beaver closed the Pokedex and said,

“Perfect, now I can add a new member to my team that will make me even more powerful . . . Go Treecko.”

He threw a pokeball towards the Zigzagoon and his Treecko emerged ready to battle. The Zigzagoon tried to flee, but Beaver commanded Treecko to use a Quick Attack. After landing in front of the fleeing Zigzagzoon, Treecko slapped it with his tail sending it flying back towards the center of the road. Seeing this Beaver said,

“Great job . . . now weaken it further with a Faint Attack.”

Treecko began moving quickly again as it glowed with the now all too familiar black aura surrounding it. It slammed into the Zigzagoon sending it flying to Beaver’s feet. He smiled as he grabbed the third ball from his belt. He reared back to throw the ball, but he stopped with a sudden cry of pain. He fell to his knees holding his stomach where he had just been hit with some great force. As he fell to the ground, he turned to see a tall human-like Pokemon looking at him. Then he blacked out.

Beaver slowly woke up lying on a bed of hay. As he came to and began to be able to see he realized he was in an iron cage. He began to panic as he reached for his pokeballs and realized that they were all gone! He stood up and began to yell,

“Is anyone there? Why have you done this to me? . . . Answer Me!”

Just then the door opened and a man walked through. As he walked out of the shadows Beaver saw that he was a tall tanned skinned man with black hair and a built body. He wore a sleeveless red shirt and a pair of red training pants. He looked up at Beaver and said,

“So, you finally woke up. I thought you were going to sleep all day.”
Beaver interrupted yelling, “Let me out of here! You have no right to do this!”

The Man: “Boy, you know nothing of the rights I have been given. You come here to violate the sacred cave and then are angered when I, its protector, defeat and capture you?! Who sent you?”

Beaver stood puzzled for a moment and then he said,

“You must be confusing me with someone else. I was just wondering off of Route 4 looking for Pokemon. I swear.”

He looked directly at the man with a look of innocence in his face. The man was silent for a few seconds and then he grunted. He turned and began to walk towards the door saying,

“We’ll see how a night in there might refresh you memory.”

He laughed and open the door to walk out but then he suddenly stopped. Blocking his way was a short girl who looked about thirteen years old. She had long curly brown hair, a slender body, and she was jeans and a white tee shirt with the Roeno League emblem on it. She looked the man right in the face and said,

“Now come on daddy . . . you know he isn’t hear to do any harm. Just let him out and I will take him back to Route 4 in the morning.”

The man shook his head and then mumbled something to the girl as he pushed by her and walked down the hall. She walked over to the table and grabbed some keys. She then walked over to the cage and unlocked it saying,

“Hi, my name is Anna. I am so sorry about my father. He is just real uptight here lately. You see, a few days ago so weird people showed up saying that they were going to go in the cave to learn it secrets so that they could become more powerful trainers. Dad demolished them and sent them packing, but it worried him that anyone even had the adasity to challenge him.”

Beaver looked puzzled but he just followed Anna over to a safe as she unlocked it and reached inside pulling out Beavers belt with his pokeballs. She handed them to Beaver and then said,

“There you go . . . now let’s get something to eat.”

Beaver, who was starving, nodded and followed her down the hall. As the walked into the kitchen they saw the man there eating a sandwich. When he saw them, he stood up and grunted. He began to walk toward the front door as he said,

“I guess I’ll eat outside.”

Beaver took offense to this saying,

“I know how to settle this. I challenge you to a Pokemon battle!”

The man stopped dead in this tracks. He turned to look at Beaver with a stern face and a deadly glare. He then said,

“Don’t insult me. You are not worth my time.”

With that he walked outside and slammed the door. Beaver just stood there with his mouth gapping. He felt so helpless. Seeing this, Anna said,

“Beaver, don’t be offended. He is right . . . do you not know who my father is?”

Beaver shook his head and stared at Anna with a blank stare. She continued,

“My father’s name is Jack “Stoneheart” Rutherford . . . you really don’t know? My dad is the form leader of the Roeno Ferocious Four.”

Beaver gasp and then bowed his head mumbling to himself,

“No wonder he denied my challenge . . . I will never be that good . . . sigh.”

Anna: “Don’t worry about it Beaver. He has been training for almost thirty years . . . you have plenty of time to catch up.”

This didn’t cheer Beaver up much. He looked up and said,

“Why did he leave his post? I would never surrender that position.”

Anna: “Well you see, my mother and I use to live together and he would come to visit whenever he could. Then about two years ago my mom got really sick and she had to live in the hospital. He took a leave of absence to be with her and he was replaced temporarily. Then about six months ago, she passed away. After the funeral, he decided to come live with me all the time, so he had to resign from his post.”

Beaver: “Oh, I see . . . but why do you live in the middle of no where?”

Anna: “We use to live in Acero city, but when he resigned from his post a man named Yellow got a spot on the Ferocious Four. The thing was that he had been the protector of this cave, so they asked my dad to be the cave’s new protector. He accepted, so we moved here.”

Beaver: “We’ll I guess that makes sense . . .except . . . ?”

Anna: “What is it?”

Beaver: I am still confused as to what this place is.”

Anna: “I am not sure either. Apparently there is something very mystical and powerful in that cave. If it were to fall into the wrong person’s hands, it could mean disaster!”

Beaver: “Well I am glad your dad is protecting it then . . .”

He sat down and ate the peanut butter sandwich Anna hand made for him in silence. After he finished Anna said,

“It is already dark and you have had a long day . . .why don’t you get some rest. In the morning I will show you the way back to Route 4.”

Beaver nodded and followed her back down the hall and into the bed room. He lied down and thought to himself what a wonderful life it must have been to be the leader of the strongest Pokemon trainers in all of Roeno. He sighed and the doze off to sleep.

The next morning Beaver woke up and walked out into the kitchen. There he saw Anna as she cooked him some eggs and bacon. Beaver, not having had real cooked food in a while, was overjoyed at the sight. He smiled and said,

“Thank you so much Anna. I really am going to love this!”

Anna smiled and served him some scrambled eggs with bacon and a glass of orange juice. He ate it very quickly and then looked up at Anna to see her watching intently. He kinda cowered and then he shrugged saying,

“A guys gotta eat right?”

Anna laughed as she cleared the table. After a few minutes, the two of them got ready and began to walk down the trail from the house. They walked for a few minutes and then Anna stopped and pointed as she said,

“See that trail up ahead? If you follow it then you will run right into Route 4. If you take a left onto Route 4 then you will be on your way to Ciencia Villiage, but if you take a right then you will be on your way to Oscuridad town.”

Beaver nodded and said,

“Thank you for everything. Without you I might still be locked in that cage forever.”

Anna laughed and said,

“Don’t worry about it . . . plus, my dad’s bark is much worse than his bite . . . well it was nice to meet you and maybe we will see each other again.”

Beaver: “Right back at ya!”

The two hugged and then they parted there separate ways. Beaver looked back as he turned down the trail to see Anna disappear behind a hill. He sighed and said,

“Well maybe now I can catch a new Pokemon without being kidnapped by any of the Ferocious Four.”

He laughed and walked down the road towards Route 4. After about ten minutes he came upon Route 4 and he took a right to go towards Oscuridad town. Just as he did he caught a glimpse of smoke rising from where he had come from. He became very stern and thought to himself that he didn’t need to go back because Jack could handle himself, so he kept walking. After about a minute he couldn’t stand the gut feeling anymore and he turned back walking at first and then beginning to run. As he cam up to the top of the hill that overlooked the house, he crouched to scout out the situation. He could only gasp at what he saw. Jack was unconscious and tied up to a tree. Standing next to him were two people facing the mouth of the cave. One was a tall man who looked about twenty. He had long black hair and glasses. He wore a black cloak with a black shirt, black slacks, and black shoes. Next to him stood a short and skinny women who looked a little younger than the man. She also wore a black cloak with a black blouse, black pants, and black shoes. Then Beaver looked over at the cave and saw Anna standing in there way. She had her hands out as she yelled,

“You cannot enter the cave!”

The man laughed and said,

“And you’re going to stop us . . . ha, do you know who you are messing with? I am Will and this is Monica. We are members of the prestigious Roeno Shadow Society. In that cave is the secret to powering up our Pokemon. Our leader says that the only way to reach true enlightenment is to train your Pokemon to be the strongest they can be. We will not let a little girl stop us when we are so close to our goal!”

Pulling two pokeballs out of her bag, Anna said,

“We’ll just see about that . . . go Voltage and Weeds!”

The two pokeballs flew into the air releasing two Pokemon at the same time. On resembled a small yellow mouse while the other looked like a small onion. Beaver pointed his Pokedex at the mouse-like Pokemon first and it said,

“Pikachu is a electirc type pokemon. It stores electicity in sacs found inside its checks. Although it looks small, it can shock an opponent with such great force that the jolt can render it completely paralyzed.”

Then Beaver moved the Pokedex to face the plant and it said,

“This Pokemon’s name is Oddish. It is of the grass and poison types. Usually a nocturnal Pokemon, it relies on its powerful spore-like attacks to stun the foe so that it can escape.”

Monica: “Ha, you think two punny little pokemon like that can stop us. Come on Will, let’s show her the meaning of pain.”

The two of them threw two pokeballs onto the field and relased two Pokemon. Beaver was stunned because they looked very similar, having only slight differences. Beaver pointed the Pokedex at them and it said,

“Both of these Pokemon are named Nidoran. The smaller white specimen is the female while the larger purple one is the male of the species. The female has smaller barbs so it carries less poison then the male, but it has more bulk for stronger physical attacks. Beware of both of these Pokemon for they possess strong poisons!”

Beaver became worried, but decided to watch Anna battle before he intervied. Anna laughed and said,

“A couple of Nidorans . . . I will show you. Voltage, use your Thundershock attack on the Nidoran ♂; Weeds, use your Stun Spore attack on Nidoran ♀.”

Will: “Nido, use your Horn Attack on that Pikachu.”

Monice: “Nida, use a Whirlwind attack to blow that Stun Spore away.”

Oddish jumped up and let out some small yellow particles that floated towards Nidoran ♀. Nidoran ♀ took in a big breath and blew a whirlwind at the spores sending them flying towards the other side of the battle field. Meanwhile, Pikachu shot a stream of electricty right at Nidoran ♂ and hit him dead on. He fell down but then regained its footing and leaped at Pikachu hitting it with its horn and sending it flying into a rock. Just as it landed, the spores fell down on him paralyzing him. Anna gasp and yelled,

“No, get up Pikachu . . .”

Pikachu tried to get up but he fell back down and fainted. Then Anna turned to Oddish and said,

“It’s up to you Weeds. Use your Sleep Powder attack on all of them now.”

Will and Monica: “Nidorans, use Tackle on it at the same time before it can attack.”

Oddish jumped up ready to let out sleep spores, but the Nidorans leaped up and slammed into it before it could attack. Oddish fell to the ground with a cry of pain and then fainted.

Will: “Ha, what did I tell you little girl . . .now step aside.”

Will and Monica walked towards the cave. Anna put here hands out again trying to stop them, but Monica simply shoved her aside. Just as they were going to enter the cave, Beaver came running down the hill yelling,

“Stop right there!”

Will and Monica turned around and laughed. Monica said,

“Oh, another kid is going to stop us now? I am shaking in my boots.”

Both of them laughed and then Monica continued saying,

“I wouldn’t waste my time on a random kid like you. Let’s go Will.”

Will: “Right . . . later kiddy.”

They both waved sarcasticly and then turned to walked to the cave. Beaver got angry and yelled,

“We’ll see how you handle this . . . go team!”

He took the first two pokeballs from his belt and threw them into the field. Treecko and Charmander came out in battle stance ready to battle as if they knew how high the stakes really were. Will laughed and looked over at Monica saying,

“Let’s demolish this nubiee. It will be a fun treat before we claim the real prize.”

Monica: “Sure, why not. I can deny the pleasure of the cave for a moment to destroy him. Go Nida!”

Will: “You too Nido!”

The two Nidorans came out again looking a little tired from the previous battle. Beaver saw this and thought to himself,

“I got this one now.”

Then he said, “Treecko use Agility now! Charmander use Bite on Nidoran ♀!”
Will: “Nido, use a poison sting on that Treecko!”

Monica: “Nida, use a scratch attack on Charmander quick!”

The two Nidorans sprung into action, but they were caught of guard by their opponents speed. Treecko began running circles around Nidoran ♂ so that each Poison Sting attack he made missed. Charmander began running directily at Nidoran ♀. She jumped at him trying to use a Scratch attack, but Charmander caught both her front feet. Then he spread here arms and used a unimpeaded bite attack right on her neck. Beaver yelled,

“Great you two . . . now Charmander finish her with a Headbutt attack now! Treecko use a Faint Attack now!”

Treecko abruptly stopped running in circles and jumped flipping over Nidoran ♂. He landed on the edge of a bolder and pushed off as he began to glow with a inky black aura. He slammed into Nidoran ♂ before he could react causing him to fly into a nearby tree. Shocked, Will yelled,

“No! Get up Nido!”

Nidoran ♂ tried to get up but it fell down and was out. Seeing this, Monica said,

“It’s up to us now Nida. Use a Double Kick attack!”

She flew at Charmander and used a Double Kick as he used a Headbutt. The two attacks offset each other and the two combatants flew back onto the field away from each other. Monica yelled,

“Again Nida!”

Beaver: “Charmander, jump to dodge it and then use an Ember attack!”

Nidoran ♀ lunged at Charmander with her foot, but he jumped over the attack. As he landed behind her he let out a powerful flash of flames that sorched the unprepared opponent. She fell down and fainted. Beaver jumped up and screamed,

“Yes . . . I did it!”

Will: “You have just entered a world of pain little boy.”

Monica: “You will pay one day for this. You are now on the RSS black list. We’ll see how long you last as a trainer now. Until next time we meet little boy.”

With that the two of them recalled there Pokemon and then they threw two smoke bombs at the ground. When the smoke cleared they were gone without a trace. Beaver smiled and recalled his Pokemon. Anna ran over to him and gave him a hug. She smiled and said,

“Thank you Beaver . . . without you it could have been disaster for the world.”

Then she ran over to her Father who was just coming to. She sat down beside him and held his hand. Jack looked around and said,

“What happened?”

Anna: “Daddy, these two evil people came and knocked you out. They tied you up and then they tried to go in the cave.”

Jack busted free from the ropes and began to run towards the cave, but Anna yelled,

“No, stop daddy. Calm down they didn’t go in.”

Jack snapped around with a puzzled look on his face. He was silent for a moment and then he said,

“Did you beat them off with Pikachu and Oddish?”

Anna held her head down and said,

“I tried father, but I was defeated.”

Jack still surprised began to ask,

“So how were they de . . .?”

Just then he saw Beaver standing there. He stood and stroked his chin. Then he smiled and said,

“I see. Beaver, you have proven yourself when the world needed you most. Your deeds here will never be forgotten.”

Beaver sratched the back of his head and just smiled. Jack continued,

“I will not except your challenge now, for it would be improper given my training level, but one day we will have a battle. And I am sure it will be a spectacular bout for all who witness it. Until then I would like you to have this as a small token of my gratitude.”

He walked inside and then he handed Beaver a package and then turned and walked back into his house. Anna ran up and gave Beaver another hug. She looked him in the eyes and said,

“Wow, my dad actually likes you. That’s a first. I don’t think I have ever heard him say that many words to anyone, especially not a young trainer like you.”

They both laughed and then she sighed saying,

“Well you better be on your way if you ever want to be good enough to challenge my father. I am sure we will meet again one day.”

Beaver: “I know we will. And on that day we will battle as well. Until then, be safe and good luck to you.”

With that Beaver turned and walked down the road. Anna stood there and watched him until he was out of site. Just as Beaver turned onto Route 4, he unwrapped the package Jack had given him. He smiled as he saw it was necklace. It was made with black chain wire and in the middle it had the Roeno League symbol hanging in the front. He stopped and put it around his neck. He smiled and said,

“Now I’m ready to take the Roeno League by storm. Ready or not, here I come!”

To Be Contined . . .
