[info]seemag is ok! I just spoke to her, and she is without power or water but she made it through the storm unscathed.

4:08PM

It's been a while since my last post. And even longer since I last completed a fic. I am happy to rectify both omissions: a new VOY story, Zephyr is a "Return to New Earth. Sorta." Hope you enjoy.

I should also be posting my thoughts on BSG season 4. Look for that soon.

[info]seemag has a fantastic BSG fic, Beacon, which picks up immediately from the events of last week's ep "He That Believeth In Me." Go read. Now.

4:21PM

The new season of BSG begins tonight. Please, O Friends List, keep your enthusiasm under a cut as not all of us will have the opportunity to watch right away. This is one show (even more than Lost) that I really, *really* don't want to be spoiled for.

8:24AM - Whither Trek?

First: The 2007 ASC Awards are over. Thanks to everyone who participated, either as a writer or as a reader. Results will appear in another week. Depending on various developments, this may have been the last awards for the foreseeable future. Story posts are way down (a trend which has been happening for a few years already), and there was some question of whether or not we'd have awards *this* year. We did, but in the majority of series, there were just one or at most two categories total. For those who remember ASC in its heyday...

But, in a cheerful remember that Trek itself is alive and well (and often in surprising places) last night my husband and I were at a costume party and spotted one individual with familiar prosthetic devices around his eyes and chin. "Cardassian?" we asked. No, we were told. I studied his face further. "Ah, right, no neck ridges." The alien nodded encouragingly. "No spoon indentation in the forehead either." My husband meanwhile insisted, "You *have* to be Cardassian. What else could you be looking like that?" "I'm Denobulan, actually," we were told. "Aha! You're Phlox, from ENT!" I declared. Which was of course the correct answer. He was delighted we had guessed, as no one else had figured it out. I should point out that this is a neck of the woods where Trekkies are few and far between. He told us he'd really wanted to be Worf, but the makeup person took one look at a picture of the required forehead ridges and refused. Yep, no kit, they did it all from scratch.

And in case you're wondering what *we* did costume-wise, my husband and I channeled our inner Animal House. Uh huh--togatogatogatogatogatogatoga! (And no, [info]seemag, pics will NOT be forthcoming.)

In the midst of the whole business with awards, not to mention the demands of RL which somehow never slacken, I've got a new TOS fic: School Daze.

9:07AM - and more new fic

Maybe it's the rush of racing a deadline, but here is yet another new fic. Blackbird is VOY, early years, B'Elanna and Chakotay and a shuttle crash (don't look at me that way, it's early enough in the show that it hadn't yet become a cliche. Sort of).

11:20PM - new fic

I have a new fic, Motivation. It's TOS, Kirk background. I've been sitting on this one for a long time (since March). Perhaps this is the beginning of the end of my writing block?

On a related note, the official ASC "year" ends on January 31. Any Trek writers out there (are there? actually, this is not a rhetorical question), post your stories while you can.

9:15AM

I haven't abandoned this LJ, at least in the sense I am still reading my friends list. I just don't have much to say, at least not in the fannish sense. Due to the Great Computer Crash, I haven't seen any of the current Stargate Atlantis (the aforementioned crash also derailed the Grand Rewatching of DS9). I saw some season 2 Heroes and wasn't impressed, intrigued or interested. Lost and BSG haven't begun their new seasons yet (haven't seen Razor yet either unfortunately). As for Trek...sigh.

In the meantime, RL continues apace. I recently celebrated my 22nd wedding anniversary. Two of the kids are post-high school and so mostly out of the house (except when they come back, usually with several friends in tow). And that's about it. Keeping very busy, but at the same time feeling like I've fallen into a rut.

Wishing everyone a good 2008.

10:16AM

As Harry Potter mania sweeps the globe, here's a link to a story I wrote a few years ago: Harry Kim And The Goblet Of Coffee

I am avoiding spoilers for the final book like the plague. Which means I am going to be staying completely away from any and all things Internet starting this weekend, and lasting until I've read the book for myself. (Which may take a while, as my kids get priority). It's not my friendslist I'm worried about, it's mainstream news sites like the New York Times who I can just see running headlines like, "Fans React To Harry's Death In Final Chapter Of Saga." [Note: I have no idea who, if anyone, dies, nor do I have any idea of any plot developments whatsoever. I have speculated, along with everyone else, but I have no foreknowledge of what events will play out. Nor do I want any. Not because I'm such a big Harry Potter fan--I'm not--but I would still like to read the book in relative peace and quiet, like I would any other piece of literature--without knowing the end before I even begin.]

6:30PM

After a ten years' run, Stargate SG-1 has come to an end. I was a relative latecomer (thanks [info]jalara for getting me started) but I enjoyed the show very much. I liked the character development, the continuity and consistency (heaven for a survivor of the Braga years on VOY and ENT), the technobabble and the action/adventure.

As for the finale,Cut for rambling and spoilers )

9:49PM - New Fic!

It's been a while, but I have a new story up on my page. Last Man Out is a DS9 story, sort of. It's also not exactly new, as I completed it a while ago, but I've only now decided to post it. I'm also in the process of going through all my story files and changing the contact information to the new email address.

In other fannish doings, ASC Awards are going full throttle with TOS, TNG and DS9 all currently running. VOY and ENT begin next week. If you haven't already, head over here to register and here to comment on the stories.

And, I'm caught up on "Lost"! (At least until tonight's episode airs).
