We are spending tonight (July 18th) in Los Angeles with Jason and Lalena. They have graciously let me spend a few hours on their computer to catch up. It is now after midnight, but perhaps I can fill you in on yesterday and today (of course, now it's after midnight, so I guess today is now yesterday) tomorrow. Or today, which it already is. Sort of. Good night.

Chris and Sarah came down to Olympia in the evening. I had some frozen pot roast, salad and cantaloup at the ready. Alex and Amanda were jumping on Alex's bed, and Amanda hit her forehead on the headboard. There was what looked like a monster gash to me, that oddly enough, didn't bleed. Corey took her to the hospital, and she ended up getting four stitches. She didn't seem to be in any pain. She cried when it happened, and wanted to be held. She stopped crying and wanted down, but before putting her down, I lifted her bangs, expecting to see a small bruise. That's when I saw the cut. She came home in time to see the fireworks, and was happy as could be. Some of the bigger fireworks scared her just a little bit and she needed to sit with me or with Chris (Corey was lighting the fireworks). But she doesn't seem to be in any pain and is happy as a lark. Go figure. Mommy, on the other hand...

Well, we (the nuclear family-parents, two kids) are leaving to go to Texas tomorrow. We are driving there (road trip!) and should get there by Thursday when the Snow Family reunion starts (in Kerrville TX--where Corey's father's parents lived and raised their kids). We aren't exactly going straight there. Corey worked it out and it only adds a couple hundred miles if we go to Mt Rushmore (and then straight down to Texas). I mean, how many time do you get to see Mt Rushmore (unless you live there, I mean)? We will return through Arizona and California, with some stops in Tucson and the Grand Canyon. Then we visit Corey's other grandparents in California so that they can meet the grandkids. Any requests for souvenirs, postcards, what have you? The kids are pretty excited. Alex asked if they speak English in Texas. I tried not to let my snarkiness take over on that one. I told him they do, but with an accent. He didn't understand what the word accent meant. He'll figure it out when we get there. Amanda loves role playing. Yesterday, the kids and I went to Target to pick up some things for the trip. Amanda has been coming up to me since then and telling me that she is the Mommy and we are going on a trip. I asked where we are going and she wasn't clear on that. I asked her if we are going to Texas, and she said yes. I asked her what we are going to do when we get there, and she said that we are going to play. That sounds good. CHord will still be here (and taking care of the ungrateful cats). I imagine that there will be wild parties in our absence, but you will need to contact him to get more info on that. We will be back around the 21st or so. Texas in July. Not my idea. Only a Texan would think that's a good idea. Must be strong.
