worst week ever!!!

grim

current mood: grim

As far as weeks are concerned, this one could have been better.

Work is super busy. I'm pulling in new students every week and by my estimates i'm making more money for the company then any single teacher yet every thing else around me seems to be holding on by a old used piece of dental floss. not very confident building.

my computer got it self F.U.B.A.R.ed and i spent a week with no net, i still don't even have photoshop.

The japanese government keeps sending me surprise residential tax bills in the mail asking for hundreds of dollars. I've been told a lot of foreigners don't pay these taxes but we'll see what the results of that might be.

Canada wants in on the tax action too. I just got a bill for 2005 and 2007! Why you might ask. well in 2005 i collected 3300$ in E.I.. They are only now telling me that they didn't take off enough Taxes and want damn near a third of that money. 1/3 taxes for a yearly income of 3300$ how messed up is that.

Last year to try to help my self out a little bit with my shitty income here in japan and to buy some presents for friends and family i took some money out of my RRSPs and paid 10% tax. but Just this week Canada decides to tell me that because i don't live in Canada they are going to charge me 25% taxes!

looks like Paul will be eating rice and water for the rest of the year. oh wait there's more.

I work at this one Kindergarten that's like a Zoo filled with the most foul mouth, violent little kids I've ever seen. In the morning i teach large classes of 30 kids or so and there always needs to be a Japanese home room teacher in any morning class to help control the kids. My job is English teaching not riot control. But at this one school the teachers are the most useless thing ever and are more often napping in another room then found helping me out. the last class of the morning was out of control about 1/3 of the boys are fighting and i'm trying to ignore them and teach the 6 kids who are actually paying attention but 2 of them really start to go at it. I'm afraid they're going to hurt themselves so i jump in and grab the kids and put them in chairs away from each other as quickly as i can so i can try to finishes the lesson. Well the skin on one of the kids arms got pinched between my fingers and left a little mark and the mother complained to the school which complained to my company. oh joy.

I'm not even going to try to think about what happened to my investments when the stock market crashed.

On an up note, when walking home from the bar tonight i saw 3 of the most drunk people i have ever seen. A hysterical girl, a half naked guy both trying to carry a third drunk and passed out girl. they'd pick her up and stumble 3 feet before falling down on each other. hysterical girl would cry and shout at strangers walking past. the guy would always hit his head and the passed out girl would finish it off by puking all over everyone. and then they'd get up and do it all over again. It was amazing. After seeing three angry crying drunks falling in their own puke i knew then that yes, things could still get worse for me.

that's right it's the new DSi. how pretty is this.

it's a cruel irony that i'm too poor to buy one but who knows. crazy things can happen between now and then.

current song: Asian kung-fu generation

Last night i checked out Weezer and Asian Kung-fu generation yesterday and it was pretty kick ass.

The day started out over at John's place where he downloaded all the Weezer songs he could for Rock Band and thus we played. This was my first time playing Rock band i'm i'm really kind of disappointed off that they don't have this game in the Japanese market. it's SOOOO much fun! so yeah it was all Weezer with a little bit of Radio Head thrown in there for good measure*.

Off to the concert.

I went mainly wanted to see Asian Kung-Fu generation but they were kind of a let down playing the part of the opening act. they didn't play any of the top 5 songs i wanted to hear. sighs* maybe when i see one of Their shows.

Weezer on the other Hand blew me away! They started in the middle of the convention center on s small stage with all the lights turned on and invited random people with random instruments to play with the band acoustic like songs. really intimate and cool but i would of expected this to fail in japan as per usual western bands try to talk english to the audience and they kind of look back blank faced.

BUT, Rivers Cuomo the lead singer can speak Japanese! (text book japanese but still!!?) i was impressed and so was the audience and they responded in kind.

When they finally got to the main stage the crowd was pumped and they exploded with Buddy Holly as their first song and after that it was one hit after another bigger and better then the following. i think they only played 4 new songs the whole night and even those were really good! Things i didn't expect was that every member of the band can sing really well and did while Rivers took up a second drum set or something else equally fun.

The surprise of the night was when they did an EXCELLENT cover of the Radiohead's Creep. foreshadowing from rock band i think not.

Less surprising was the Engrish i found.

PS: when walking in to the concert in stead of searching and or frisking you they politely asked if i had a camera on me to which i lied and said no. Even if i did say yes they had a good locker system where you could pick your camera up later.
