Who but my lady Greensleeves...
I have a new favorite commercial. The new Snickers "feast" commercial. With the late, great Henry VIII. As a historian, I just like the Henry VIII reference. The fact that they sing Greensleeves to him is what makes the commercial amazing. To those who aren't in the know, Henry VIII supposedly wrote Greensleeves.

I found the commercial on youtube:

Gasoline Crisis
The movie, Zoolander, was on last night, so I watched it. And I saw the mega irony in one scene of the movie. Should I make a joke about the gasoline crisis?

I think this is the US government at its best:

Woot.com
This website, woot.com, has one item per day that you can purchase for a pretty good deal. For each item, they usually have a pretty clever, funny description or scenario that they use to advertise the product. Today's description is especially clever.

Here's the description. Just remember that it's supposed to be tongue-in-cheek humor. )

AWA
I went to AWA (Anime Weekend Atlanta) for the first time this year. I heard it sucks compared to Dragon*Con... and my source was apparently correct. But it's also a lot cheaper, so that made up for it.

Anyway, pictures are online here.

What the... huh?
Wow.

Sarah Brightman sings the theme song for the latest Pokemon movie. Story here.

At first I thought she had recorded the song FOR that movie, which would be just CRAZY... but now I'm thinking that she already had the song and they decided to include it in the movie. It is a song that is on her latest album, Symphony.

But I was so confused when I heard this.

More on Sarah Palin
Here is a great Op-Ed article written by Gloria Steinem (the famed feminist) on her thoughts on Sarah Palin. If you have the chance, read the whole thing -- she makes some good points.

This is the article.

Ooh, Barracuda...
I love Heart.

Sarah Palin has been trying to use the song "Barracuda" by Heart as her theme song. Heart is, apparently, not happy. Here's an article about it.

And I just saw Heart in concert last month. I just thought I'd add that. :D

And I am NOT thrilled about Sarah Palin. In fact, she scares the crap outta me. Seriously. Have you seen the picture that has been used in many of the magazine articles about her? I sat down and read four different articles from different magazines the other day, and each article had the same picture -- Sarah Palin crouching over a dead Caribou -- its throat a bloody, gory mess, and its blood making a huge stain in the snow. The captions usually say something about her love of hunting and how she felled this Caribou all by herself. And we're supposed to be impressed.

In doing a google search for this picture, I found this website. It's about Palin's crusade against the planet. I know it's quite biased, but many of the things it says are true.

And speaking of bearskin rugs and such, one of the articles I read showed a picture of Sarah Palin sitting on her own couch, on which she had a bearskin. The caption said that Sarah Palin had told Vogue that though she decorated her home with fur, she wouldn't wear it. Is this supposed to be reassuring?

Of course, after reading all this, I can't help but to have a song stuck in my head:
Cruella DeVille, Cruella DeVille. If she doesn't scare you, no evil thing will...

Dragon*Con Pictures
Well, I'm trying to make a website for my Dragon*Con pictures, but the thing is not anywhere near finished yet.

I have pictures up, but the website is bound to change its look at some point.

Here's the unfinished product, though:

Sweet Potato
I get a daily trivia question in my email every day. Yesterday's question was "What musical instrument is commonly referred to as the 'sweet potato'?

The answer was the Ocarina.

So my immediate thought was "Wouldn't it be funny if they had called it: 'Legend of Zelda: Sweet Potato of Time'?"

I know. My brain works in strange ways sometimes.

What makes a muskrat guard his musk?
So I just watched The Wizard of Oz (one of my favorite movies) on TV.

And this commercial kept coming on that said "The nut snack you can enjoy" (or something like that). I picked up on Nut Snack and heard something else at first...

But anyway, I have many things to talk about. I never made a post about my trip -- even though I took notes and many pictures -- so I need to do that at some point. And I've seen several movies that I need to talk about. But I think I'll wait until after I see Batman to do that. I still haven't seen it yet, but hopefully I'll go see it this week, or the next.

School ends this week. Then I have about a month until the fall semester begins. Goody. I'd better
be working during that time. I need money for dragoncon.

Wow... Peta has made this really crazy Super Mario Bros. parody... it's actually kinda funny, whether you care about Peta or hate them. I found the link through a google ads thing.

Female Gamers
I posted this in the [info]girl_gamers community and have had quite a lot of responses so far. Basically, I found an article that had some slight sexism when it said that Wii markets to non-core gamers such as women...

The assumption being that all women actually WANT to play "Cooking Mama".

Cow farts
Hah, read this article. I didn't realize that cows were a major factor in methane pollution... actually, I didn't know that methane pollution was really an issue.

But my bf claims that he heard of a guy that collected the methane and sold it as natural gas. Dunno if that's really true, of course. But it's a novel idea.
