3 Movies I would like to recommend:

Three movies have been on my mind lately, don't ask me why cause I don't know. Anyway I would consider all three to be thrillers. Each are very different from each other but have a similar feel, sort of Hitchockian. All three have somewhat surprising endings, at least I didn't see it coming.

1- Identity (2003),John Cusack, Amanda Peet, Rebecca DeMorney, Ray Liotta, Jake Busey
A group of people are stranded at a small, remote motel on a very stormy night when
individuals start to disappear and then are found murdered. No not, just a remake of
Agatha Christie's "Ten Little Indians".

2- Phone Booth (2002), Colin Farrell, Kiefer Sutherland, Katie Holmes
A man is held hostage in a phone booth by a sniper. This script was actually pitched
to Alfred Hitchcock but he couldn't figure out how to keep someone stranded this long.

3- Butterfly Effect (2004), Ashton Kutcher, Amy Smart
A man's past seen from many different angles, which one is reality?

All three are edge-of-the-seaters in different ways.

Kylie

Update on the Kylie Brandt case... The recent arrest last Wednesday night of a well known Long Island call girl, Satin Frisse, turned up a "little black book" filled with alleged clients names. Coincidentally, one name listed was none other than Judge Filipe Lopez, the Weymouth County District Judge, currently hearing the infamous Kylie Brandt case.

Judge Lopez has since recused himself from the Brandt case. Although he has not, himself, publicly stated why, it would seem to be due to a conflict of interest.

"Golden" age of Hollywood

Many people feel that the "Golden" age of Hollywood is something in the past. I agree that one golden age is over, but I feel that there are actors today that have the same amount of style, grace and character as those that we idolize from yesteryear.

Will Smith - a true movie star (so far), he keeps his private life to himself, no scandals, just good acting, always has a smile for the paps and his fans.

Angelina Jolie - has had her issues in the past but it looks like she has grown out of that stage. If she sticks to her current course I believe she will shine in the future.

Leonardo DiCaprio - is proving himself to be an excellent actor and handles himself with dignity, as well as caring about issues like global warming shown by "11th Hour".

Kate Hudson - is a true movie star. She has made it on her own validity without help from her famous mom or dad. She is a lady.

Scarlett Johansson - the youngest of this group, and not a sure thing, she's had her small scandals, but has pulled through and is shining. She's got the style and the grace.

Watchin' movies when you're sick (physically)

Is there anything better to do??? I guess there are different levels, like when you are puking it is kinda hard to remember to keep hitting the pause button and then you miss stuff. But when you are sick and a few notches above just staring at the ceiling, then there is nothing better than some good movies.

What I watched:

King of Kong - documentary about the great international Donkey Kong tournament of 2007. These guys take video games very seriously (notice "guys", not one girl), and they are grown men. Not as fun as "Spellbound" 2003 (about a spelling bee) or "Wordplay" 2006 (about a crossword puzzle competition).

Smiley Face - Ah, Anna Faris. When she first started acting she concentrated only on drama, her breakout movie..... "Scary Movie". She had no idea she was funny! This is a mega stoner film and anyone who has ever smoked (and inhaled) will identify with it.

Talented Mr. Ripley - the feel is very reminiscent of Cary Grant in "To Catch a Thief". The old "kill him and take his place" routine. Not half bad but I prefer Cary Grant.

Across The Universe - OK no one likes to hear a great band's "interpretation" done by anyone else but that band. But let's just say that there is a whole generation out there of kids who will not listen without that interpretation. These are lyrics with messages that we, those who lived through the changes of the 60's, feel the importance of. How else to present these topics and ideas to another generation but to interpret them in a way that this generation will listen? I think this movie did an excellent job of trying to convey some very important issues about war, peace, love, discrimination to a generation who really needs to hear it in a way that they could. For myself, I am sad that the movie didn't do better, and not so many ears will hear.

28 Weeks Later - follow up to Danny Boyle's "28 Days Later". Lacks the introspection of the first but adds more action. My current favorite of this genre is "I am Legend" with Will Smith, but take into account that I fell asleep for some of "28 Weeks Later", hey I'm sick OK!!

Update on Kylie Brandt

Trixie the he/she alleged to have given oral sex to Kylie Brandt, star and heart-throb from ABC kids show "Kids Next Door" has spoken for the first time since Kylie's arrest. She said today "He's a good boy, I've known him for years and we are just good friends. I don't want to see this hurt his career."

Hey gang!

Saw 2 films yesterday. Both pretty interesting in their own quirky way.

The Darwin Awards (2005) - A top notch forensic detective (Joseph Fiennes) who faints at the sight of blood sets out to create a profile of people who accidentally kill themselves in idiotic ways. Also staring Winona Ryder, with David Arquette, Juliette Lewis and Wilmer Valderrama (as the student documentary filmmaker who films the detective's every move.

The Amateurs (2005) - Jeff Bridges plays a depressed, small town man who loses with every scheme he attempts. His determination to make something of himself leads him to produce a porno film using all the locals characters in the town, something they all know nothing about. Patrick Fugit plays the local video clerk/cinematographer/and kid who documents the process.

This Just IN!!!

We have just heard from an inside source that Kylie Brandt, age 18, of Saturdays ABC's Family Channel show, "Kids Next Door" has been arrested and charged with "lewd and lascivious" behavior after being spotted behind a 7-11 having oral sex with a trans gender prostitute in Newark, New Jersey this past Sunday night. "It's a publicist's nightmare!", says his publicist, Mary Sheenan, "We are all shocked, and know in our hearts that there is an innocent explanation." "Trixie", the woman/man involved, has declined comment at this time. Kylie's mother, too distraught by the intense questioning from the media, has apparently gone into seclusion. His father, however, a former New York City Undercover Vice Squad Captain, is vigorously pursuing legal action against the Newark police department for defamation of character.

His co-stars on the show, who fully believe in his innocence, have steadfastly displayed their loyal support for the young actor. Kelly Busey, age 10, who plays his nerdy sister on "Kids Next Door" said "I always wished I had a brother like him. I've never even seen him kiss a girl! He always brings me candies at the set." Suze Weymouth, his actual sister, has not attended school since the incident.

Arraignment for the actor was held on Monday at the Essex County Court House in Newark, where Judge Filipe Lopez set a pre-trial hearing date for Monday, May 5th, at 9:00am. Kylie, released on $500 bail, is currently home with his family in Southampton, NY.

OMG! I WILL be following this one!!!

Films

Well I haven't seen anything new lately, been a little busy, but I have rewatched some old stuff.

National Lampoon's Vacation: Chevy Chase and Beverly D'Angelo and family have more than a few mishaps while driving on their yearly trip to Wally World amusement park. If you have never seen it, see it! Really funny!

Mothman Prophecies: underappreciated horror movie staring Richard Gere and Laura Linney and some unexplainable events. Pretty creepy stuff.

My Cousin Vinny: Brilliant team up of Joe Pesci and Marisa Tomei as the quintessential Italian couple. Joe Pesci plays a unskilled lawyer representing his cousin and his friend in a murder case that they are mistakenly accused of. Incidentally, Marisa Tomei won an academy award for best supporting actress for this film, an honor that rarely goes to comedies.

Current Mood: tired tired

OK first of all you HAVE to see the Dan Deacon video in the YouTube link above!!! This is a recording of a guy tripping on acid and animated, how much funnier can you get?

Tonight's show was really fun! At least we had fun! Maryanne from West Nyack called in with the answer to our trivia question (I would tell you the question and answer but I was napping) and won a Loose Change scratch off! And Judy from Valley Cottage called in as the 5th caller and won the $5 scratch off (oh please win, and let us know!). Just to recap a few important items: Bond film For Your Eyes Only had a Bond girl that used to be a man!, Katie Holmes is exhausted because Tom Cruise has boundless energy and doesn't let her sleep, Amy Winehouse posed naked with just a guitar and duct tape to raise awareness among women about breast cancer (lose the fags and heavy drinking and drugs, Amy, it will help you from getting it!), and she was offered $700,000 to play at a nightclub opening in Holland where the energy will come from the urine and sweat from its visitors and the toilets will be flushed with rainwater, Priscilla Presley's face has been injected with industrial grade silicone used to lubricate auto parts from a phony doctor who claimed it was an all natural drug to remove wrinkles and better than Botox, punk legend claims an "older R&B singer" was brought in to sing with Britney Spears (their voices were mixed together) on her last album because Brit "just has no feel", Brit's dad has introduced her to David Hasselhoff, ouch!(have you seen his You Tube video???), and she just bought a 7 mil mansion that has its own Irish Pub! (just what she needs!), finally Angelina Jolie is related to Hillary Clinton, Madonna, Celine Dion, Alanis Morissette, Camilla Parker Bowles and Jack Kerouac while Brat Pitt is related to Barack Obama, Gerald Ford Lyndon Johnson, Harry S. Truman, James Madison, Dick Cheney, and Sir Winston Churchill.

Life doesn't get much more fun than this!!!

Mostly Movies 3/19/08

OMG this was a good show!
Gail from Stony Point called in and asked about how long post-production could be. There are so many answers to that. Movies can be shelved completely, budgets may not have enough money to edit, or editing can go on forever. Tom won the scratch off ticket and said he would take us to Sydney, Australia if he wins the big one !!! Please win Tom!!!(please?) I have always wanted to go to Australia! Afterward Bob met us at the bar to thank us for the Road to the Superbowl DVD. He gave it to his son.

movies, movies, movies

Two movies I saw again this week: (wow! it was dark comedy week!)

Heartbreakers: a very sexy pair, Sigourney Weaver and Jennifer Love Hewitt, play mother/daughter con artists along with Ray Liota, Ann Bancroft and Gene Hackman. A good ribald comedy with spirit.

Office Killer: a little known dark and twisted comedy(?) starring Carol Kane and Molly Ringwald about how to fit in at the office or take care of those who make you feel like you don't.

Also saw:

Keeping Mum: a British film, much in the same vein as The Full Monty, Mrs. Henderson Presents, Saving Grace, and Calendar Girls but with a little more murder involved.

Death at a Funeral: another British film. An attendee at the wake claims to be the gay lover of the recently deceased, patriarch of the family. Peter Dinklage is great as always, directed by Frank Oz.

Who won the "Road to the Superbowl"?

Just one of our loyal listeners, Bob!

YOU COULD OWN THIS!

As I said on the show last week, we are going to be giving away a copy of the DVD "Road to the Superbowl" from this year's amazing New York Giants win over the New England Patriots. Not only that but it is AUTOGRAPHED by Antonio Pierce, Giant's linebacker #58. If you look at the upper left corner you will see it. You won't need to do anything but call and be the designated caller. Just for the record (and for your speed dial) the station's phone number is (845) 624-1300. Get those fingers ready!

Some more movies I have seen

Hey all!
Here are some new movies I have seen:

Without a Clue: interesting twist on the Holmes/Watson story where Watson (Ben Kingsley) is actually the creator of Holmes and because of his popularity he has to hire a washed up actor (Michael Caine) to play the character. Funny and rather entertaining.

Dr. Bell and Mr. Doyle: another twist on the Sherlock Holmes story. In this one the young Arthur Conan Doyle meets a professor while in school who inspires the Watson character. Very British, interesting.

City of God: A Brazilian film with subtitles about the ghetto of Rio. Wonderfully shot, very engaging, intense, and worth the time. Based on reality.

Triplets of Belleville: Fabulous animated French film. Suitable for all and lots of fun!!!

Jumper: Don't bother!
