Okay...
As much fun as I've been having at the expense of Brokeback Mountain, this is just asinine. Yeah, "I wish I knew how to quit you" has become the most popular comedic phrase my household has seen in some time. Yeah, I think Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhall collectively possess the acting ability of Mark-Linn Baker in his prime. Yeah, I think the entire concept of gay cowboys in a movie called Brokeback Mountain is pretty over-the-top laughable. However, stopping it from being shown is such a pathetic reaction in this day and age that I may, to quote Sarah Silverman, puke and poo diarrhea all at the same time. I believe I've dealt with the subject of Mormonism on this blog in the past, and probably not in the most mature and enlightened of ways. But, it bears asking the question that if we're using the sexist and demeaning culture of fundamental Islamics like the Taliban to justify our bombing and killing of innocents in Afghanistan and elsewhere, how do we justify including the state of Utah and it's intolerant nature in the Union? While I am definitely not one for sacred cows, whether or not I think gay cowboys are funny has nothing to do with my belief that free speech should extend to all parts of this nation. And this movie theater should not hide behind its identity as a free enterprise to which the Bill of Rights does not apply. It should be showing an Oscar-buzz film to whomever wants to see it. I think this should infuriate people...Can't show a gay cowboy movie in the "Beacon of Freedom"...disgusting. I hope that next year, there's a movie about gay Mormons starring Topher Grace and Giovanni Ribisi entitled "Latter Gay Saints".
That's blasphemy...hot, hot blasphemy...
