Saw Indy and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull last night with a whole host of other fans. This is pretty much my tradition, seeing Indy on opening night and usually in celebration of my birthday. I couldn't resist buying the tickets once I found out they were available. :) Did I like it? You bet I did! There were a couple of elements that I didn't like, but for the most part I just enjoyed the heck out of the whole experience. Movie reviewer Eric Snyder wrote a great synopsis that sums up my feelings on this film almost exactly. I'm going to save myself the trouble of writing an actual review (complete with many spoilers for those who haven't seen it) and just link his review.
What made this experience even better was going to the new Warren Theater here in Moore to see it. If you've heard reviews on this theater let me tell you they are ALL true. The certified THX sound, the all digital projection, the incredible ambience, the seating comfort, the lack of "commercials", the waterfall curtains... it all adds up to awesome moviegoing. And if you're looking for something extra special, go ahead and spend the $18 per ticket to sit in the over-21 only balcony (we went this route for Iron Man on our anniversary a few weeks ago and it was money well spent). Seriously, you get a loveseat type setup with a small table, your own armrests that you don't share with anyone and a Call Button that summons a waiter to fulfill your every whim. A full dinner menu in addition to snacks are offered. The seats are even heated if you are cold-natured.
Have I mentioned how cool it is - after driving 20-30 minutes to go to movies for the past two decades - to have all this luxury within two miles of my own home? :D :D :D
Anyway, just had to share the movie news. It was too cool to have this unexpected addition to the Indy saga at this late date. It tied up so many loose ends and I even actually enjoyed the Mutt Williams arc (he was so classically 50s). As Eric said in his review... those who go to see it expecting it to top all three other films are doomed to disappointment, but the rest of us who just want all the old fun back are going to enjoy it immensely for what it is. And I did!

Well, I finished tweaking my Saga Journal paper and am now at loose ends for a few seconds. :) So... I've shamelessly stolen a meme from ladyaeryn. The meme was created from a list of the top 50 television shows of all time (though I have no idea what they were thinking because they've left off some obvious classics). I think we can all agree that I'm not very well versed in television...
1. Bold the shows you've watched every episode of (or near enough to count) 2. Italic the shows you've seen at least one episode of 3. Post your answers

| Memo to Dogs and Cats |

(stolen from an e-mail someone sent me)
The dishes with the paw print are yours and contain your food. The other dishes are mine and contain my food. Please note, placing a paw print in the middle of my plate and food does not stake a claim for it becoming your food and dish, nor do I find that aesthetically pleasing in the slightest. The stairway was not designed by NASCAR and is not a racetrack. Beating me to the bottom is not the object. Tripping me doesn't help because I fall faster than you can run.
I cannot buy anything bigger than a king sized bed. I am very sorry about this. Do not think I will continue sleeping on the couch to ensure your comfort. Dogs and cats can actually curl up in a ball when they sleep. It is not necessary to sleep perpendicular to each other stretched out to the fullest extent possible. I also know that sticking tails straight out and having tongues hanging out the other end to maximize space is nothing but sarcasm.
For the last time, there is not a secret exit from the bathroom. If by some miracle I beat you there and manage to get the door shut, it is not necessary to claw, whine, meow, and try to turn the knob or get your paw under the edge to try and pull the door open. I must exit through the same door I entered. Also, I have been using the bathroom for years -- canine or feline attendance is not required. Thank you. |

So.... because my back has been bothering me for a couple of weeks now... I decided to google "spine transplant" on a whim. Much to my surprise I discovered...
There is hope!!! :)
Not sure how viable an option it will be in my lifetime, but its nice to know medical science is thinking along those lines. |

My bosses father died last week. It was expected as he was 92 yrs old and not in good health, but even so, it has been difficult for her. The funeral was set for yesterday and several of us from the office were planning to go. So...
Just as I'm about to leave I get this call from my husband who informs me that we'll be going car shopping soon because some gal decided that the red traffic light at 4th and Broadway in Moore wasn't meant for her.
???
Apparently he was turning left on a protected green arrow at said intersection when her car comes out of nowhere and plows right into the driver side of his van. There were no skid marks on the road. She didn't even attempt to slow down. Just hit him going in excess of 35mph.
Fortunately neither Bar, nor the girl was seriously injured. We did, however, spend almost 4 hours at the urgent care clinic to get him x-rayed and otherwise examined. Apart from bruises from the seatbelt and a textbook case of whiplash he seems OK. The P.A. who did his examination said he was really lucky. Apparently he's seen some life-altering neck injuries (C-3,C-4) in the same types of accidents.
I'm so grateful that his Astro is built on a solid truck frame, and that the girl was driving a low-to-the-ground vehicle. The impact crushed the lower drivers side door and the frame underneath (which is now broken) took the brunt of the impact. Bar had to climb out on the passenger's side. He was pretty shook up. I think he realizes it could have been much worse.
Most likely the van is totalled due to the extent of the damage and the age of the vehicle (it is a '99). Ah well. Van's can be replaced. :) |

I ran into several Election Board staff people coming into the capitol building this morning (things tend to bottleneck at the security scanners). They were both toting huge bags of munchies so I asked if they were settling in for the season. They reminded me that they are stuck here til everything is done... meaning they don't get to go home til every vote from every precinct is in and counted. No wonder they brought their own food. :)
It is strange... I've been here nearly six years now and I've never felt the air be as electric as it is today. Usually I'm pretty immune to the flocking politicians, even at the start of session when they are all still enthusiastic about their jobs. Today, though, they are all clustered in the hallways talking about this bill or that proposal or such-and-such committee and they just seem so... positive. I hope that bodes well for this legislative session. They are smiling and friendly - and they all look so nice in their suits (there's just something about a guy dressed in a sharp looking suit... ;).
One thing about this election... nobody is complacent. Everyone seems to have their favorite candidate and I've even found one I feel pretty good about supporting. That would be a good thing... if this election year people were inspired to actually give input into the government they are getting. |

European Commission has just announced an agreement whereby English will be the official language of the European Union rather than German, which was the other possibility.
As part of the negotiations, the British Government conceded that English spelling had some room for improvement and has accepted a 5- year phase-in plan that would become known as 'Euro-English'.
In the first year, 's' will replace the soft 'c'. Sertainly, this will make the sivil servants jump with joy. The hard 'c' will be dropped in favour of 'k'. This should klear up konfusion, and keyboards kan have one less letter. There will be growing publik enthusiasm in the sekond year when the troublesome 'ph' will be replaced with 'f'. This will make words like fotograf 20% shorter.
In the 3rd year, publik akseptanse of the new spelling kan be expekted to reach the stage where more komplikated changes are possible.
Governments will enkourage the removal of double letters which have always ben a deterent to akurate speling. Also, al wil agre that the horibl mes of the silent 'e' in the languag is disgrasful and it should go away.
By the 4th yer people wil be reseptiv to steps such as replasing 'th' with 'z' and 'w' with 'v'.
During ze fifz yer, ze unesesary 'o' kan be dropd from vords kontaining 'ou' and after ziz fifz yer, ve vil hav a reil sensi bl riten styl.
Zer vil be no mor trubl or difikultis and evrivun vil find it ezi tu understand ech oza. Ze drem of a united urop vil finali kum tru.
Und efter ze fifz yer, ve vil al be speking German like zey vunted in ze forst plas. |

I don’t know if anyone else does this, but I typically buy CDs for one or two songs, listen to them (about half-hearing the songs I don’t know) and then put them away. I did that last year with a new CD called “Christmas Offerings” by the rock band Third Day (because if Mac Powell is singing it, I feel I have to own it!). Anyway, this year I was putting together a playlist of Christmas songs for my MySpace page (I know, I’m such a lemming) and I stumbled across the song “Merry Christmas” which, of course, is on that CD from last year. I listened to it – because I didn’t remember it – and immediately added it to my playlist. |
