1) Modern slavery
People dismiss conspiracy theories without even looking an inch deeper. "oh it doesnt encourage buying a pink miniskirt and a teddy bear so it CANT be true". Okay so we might NOT be being grown for aliens to feed on when the time comes, but hey theres too mcuh weird stuff going on to ignore the facts that SOMETHINGS up. and I think that this something, is Capitalism. Capitalism is in effect the new form of slavery. Instead of grabbing people in war, or buying your kids off you when youre starving, they - a few "in charge"- have managed to enslave the entire Human race. They have made us obsessed with, and to an extent utterly reliant on, material posessions, status-symbols and conformity, in order to control us. Look at TV for example. Always showing us the latest things that we should have/do/want. If you dont have a big house and a car and a job that will make you die early from distress or industrial disease, you are a "loser". If you are a girl and dont want babies (to produce more slaves for our Capitalist Masters) you are "obviously" a lesbian. No matter that you dont want the act of enforcing this system on another soul, on your concience. Gay people are bad because they dont produce slaves either. New-Age travellers and homeless people are also "scum" because they do not fit into the capitalist slavery mould.
You are in effect a slave worker, distracted from noticing your slave status by the artifically produced material distractions, that we are brainwashed into thinking is worth wanting.
Schools. (I was homeschooled coz of bigots where i grew up)One day I was with a drama group and we went to a primary school to put on a play. I tell ya, it was like stepping into a horror movie. As I stood there on the stage, all i could see was row upon row upon row of little uniformed clones - they even looked the same and spoke as if a button was switched. This is why homeschooling is still discouraged - because it prevents your being brainwashed at an early stage, and trained to be a good slave. Bullying is a product also of this brain washing. As adults we are taught we must admire material possessions and utter conformity, as the godlike ideal we must aspire to. This brainwashing is instilled to such lengths in schools that kids come to see anyone who either cannot afford these status symbols, or choose to differ for other reasons as evil. And since we are brainwashed into admiring violence as the only solution when we encounter someone different from us (Hence Prez Bushes wars)and suffer confusion because of our brain washing, bullying is what occurs. and in adults, wars occur, providing lots of money for the Capitalists who deal in weapons.

Violence and sex, and why we are attracted to it
I admit, for all my being what is sometimes referred to as a "fluffy bunny" Wiccan, and even worse a New Ager, that yeah, I have a gaping huge dark side. I love watching the film Natural Born Killers for example. My dark side is inspired no-end. I find the gladitorial sequences in Conan The Barbarian erotic. Cant help that. Its my dark side, but only by becoming familiar and friends with your dark side, can you keep it under control, giving yourself a chance to evolve.
According to the History that we are taught(I am talking genetically here, not about souls etc)that once upon a time (in my view well before Atlantis, and at the dawn of hyper-pre-history) we were savages, and lived in caves communicating in grunts and weilding a huge bone club. (ok humorous stereotype). Sex for procreation and violence for fighting rivals were the order of the day. So obviously genetically we were programmed to think that sex and violence were good things. To survive. Now we come to a point in the existance of humanity that we do not need to breed furiously for the tribe to survive, nor do we need to kill to get things. (yeah we can just become slaves it seems!). And if Capitalism was not in existance, this would still be the case. However our Capitalist masters can still use the genetic programming in us, to make us enjoy sex as a pleasureable activity, and violence as an amusement, and then make the two into entertaining rewards for us to watch on TV and think about, for our being good little slaves. And for those who have begun to think outside the fold? They are brainwashed by another faction of capitalists into being mad about teddy bears, and pink fluff etc, to keep thier conciousness from expanding and realising the real truths. (And the Capitalists make yet more money and can enslave more people in producing the teddy bears)
So yes I do feed my dark genetic side with such films as Natural Born Killers and Conan, but you see, i realise and accept that i genetically have a dark side. if ignored it would one day explode. I gently aknowledge it, and use these capitalist weapons as a means to my own evolution. Sedate your evil side with a little bit of on-screen fantasy, instead of murdering the neighbors, while ignoring the teddy bears and pink fluff which are equally dangerous to your mind, then move on in the day and ponder about the true mysteries of life.
