DragonCon and stuff

So, DragonCon started on Friday. Yay! After like 6-7 years of wanting/trying to go, I went! Double yay! And apparently DCers like bellydancer costumes. There were a ton, and I went in mine too, and was pretty pic popular. Awww. High point of Friday? Sitting down in a bar area, realizing later that Nathan Fillion is sitting at the next freaking table like 3-4 feet from me. Then watching a girl's friend 'accidentally' push her into him. He was not a happy Mal. But I did keep running into him. No one else, just him. Odd, but he does look yummy.

Saw a lot of cool costumes though, which is awesome. The walking between four hotels? Not so awesome. The heat? Even LESS awesome. And somewhere in there I banged my knee up hard enough to leave a huge bruise on my kneecap. It's like the size of a baseball. Walking? Not fun.

To top things off, Saturday morning I get woken up to find out that my 96 year old great-grandmother is in the hospital. At first they thought she had a stroke, but then decided that she had a severe case of pneumonia. She has a DNR though, so everyone's been coming into town and visiting her in the hospital to say there goodbyes.

So it's been a weekend of ups and downs. Hopefully it gets better rather than worse.

omg!

Finally, a good day!

So yesterday was one of my rare good days. It began with me getting woken up by the phone, which should have signaled a bad day. Not this time! It was the daycare saying that they'd had a kid drop their pre-K, so Alex could get in. He was so excited, and this morning when we dropped him off, he didn't even look back. My baby's in school! Sob!

Next, I got a package. [info]usekh was an absolute total sweetheart and sent me "Acheron" for a late birthday present. Much love and hugs to him for that. He rocks. :) I stayed up late so I could finish it. The book rocked. It was just too short.

The rest of the day was just pretty decent. The kids stayed out of stuff, nothing bad happened...Then we come to the endish of the evening. Andy finally got his motorcycle license (As opposed to his permit, which comes with restrictions) so I could ride with him. Which I did on Saturday. I enjoyed it. So Monday we went riding again. And...last night. Only when we were riding, we started hearing a scraping sound. We couldn't stop right then as there was no shoulder, but before we got to a place where we COULD stop, I lost my footing. I thought the foot peg had just flipped up, but no, it was the exhaust that had flipped up.

So, we stop. Andy looks at it, and tries to figure out a quick fix that'll hold until we can get down the road to a friend's house. Silly man. I took off my hair band, and that fixed it. And some people say girls shouldn't ride bikes? Pfft. Andy's keeping the band on his handlebars. It's lucky. :P

And that was my decent day. Lots of good/amusing stuff, no bad stuff...I want more days like my Monday. :)

Mrrrgh...

Yesterday was a total bust for me. Even though I stopped throwing up around 11, the rest of the day I was nauseous, sore from my head to my ankles, weak as a kitten, and light-headed. I couldn't eat ANYTHING and more than a sip of anything to drink made me rethink the idea. We ended up going to my aunt's because we still didn't have water, and after a long bath which helped the soreness (but didn't get rid of it) I ended up passing out around 8:30. Something unheard of for me. I slept like the dead until 6am or so. I mean I didn't even MOVE.

To top things off, my aunt got up right after I did. Her husband has spent most of the last 3 months in Savannah with his dad, who is in the hospital from lung cancer, and whose mom has emphysema. This morning they turned off the various machines but for the respirator - nothing has been helping, and the meds are both helping and making things worse. So now his family is just down there, spending time with him until he dies.

I feel horrible for my uncle. His dad's dying, his mom's sick, he's not gotten to see his wife much, he had to put one of his cats to sleep...The poor guy needs a break. He is one of the absolute SWEETEST men I've ever met.

The way the last two days have gone I'm wondering what else is going to go wrong. (Did I mention our fridge died and we had to get a new one on top of the rest?) Maybe the universe will do a 180 and we'll win the lottery or something. That'd be a nice change...

Curse!

The last 24 hours...

-The power went off for four hours due to a storm.
-The power blip crashed the laptop. Managed to fix it.
-A water line breaks, leaving us without water. (Which we still don't have as of this posting.)
-The power goes off again, for an hour this time.
-The laptop crashes, again. Apparently the hard drive is now fried.
-I get two hours of sleep.
-I wake up, sick as a dog, something which continues for 5 hours until I pass out HARD.
-I'm feeling better now, only I'm sore as shit. Whimper.

Someone wanna give me a massage and let me borrow a shower?

Jul. 20th, 2008

blah

What a fucking craptastic day.

So from the moment I woke up this has been a shitty day.

-Poison ivy isn't going away. It itches more than ever and I really, REALLY want to scratch it.
-Kids got into stuff. By stuff I mean shaving cream (All over them, the TV, the furniture, the bathroom, etc.), bodyspray (Vanilla, glittery, stank the house up for about half an hour), my contact stuff (Did I mention the shaving cream? Yeah, my contact case is full of it, among other things), and the toilet paper (They TPed their bedroom).
-The puppy isn't quite housebroken yet. Nuff said.
-I go to pick up Andy at my aunt's, looking forward to 2+ hours away from the kids. Only I don't get it, as mom and kids pile in.
-At my Aunt's, Andy tells me that he's riding his motorcycle home, and I get to pull the trailer. Which I've never done, didn't feel comfortable with, and didn't want to do. He didn't listen, and I ended up nervously pulling the trailer the hour home, nearly running out of gas.
-I did something to piss off a friend just before I left, and I'm not sure what. So now I'm not only stressing about having her mad at me, but I'm also stressing over what I did to make her mad in the first place.
-I ended up sitting in my car in tears at my aunt's because of the last three. Not only was it not fun, but it was embarrassing.

I have a large alcoholic drink now. I don't think it's going to help.
blah

Sniffle...

So Alex turns to me earlier, and out of the blue says, "You're the best mommy ever."

Isn't that so SWEET? It made me sniffle and hug him tight.

Jul. 19th, 2008

blah

How cute - and baffling!

So we take Alex to Wal-Mart earlier to grab a toy. It's a regular occurance, and almost every time he goes straight for the cars or Transformers. There was a difference this time. He wanted...a screwdriver. A REAL screwdriver. Flat-head, to be specific.

It gets worse. The other night we were cleaning up his room and we found out that Alex had jacked one of Andy's wrenches.

My son is a tool nut! I blame Andy!

Okay, [info]usekh posted then, and I decided to toss it up, see what I could come up with. So...Yeah. Enjoy.

SCATTERGORIES...it's harder than it looks! Copy the text below, erase my answers, then use the 1st letter of your name to answer each of the following. They have to be real places, names, things.. nothing made up! Try to use different answers if the person in front of you had the same 1st initial.. You CAN'T use your name for the boy/girl name question

WHAT IS YOUR NAME? Meg
4 LETTER WORD: Mine
BOY NAME: Matthew
GIRL NAME: Marie
OCCUPATION: Mad Scientist
A COLOUR: Mauve
SOMETHING YOU WEAR: Medallion
BEVERAGE: Mojito
FOOD: Mushroom
SOMETHING FOUND IN A BATHROOM: Mirror
PLACE: Manhattan
REASON FOR BEING LATE: Medical emergency
SOMETHING YOU SHOUT: MINE!
Curse!

Oh the...itch!

Okay, so most people, when they come in contact with poison ivy, they get it. It itches for a while, it goes away. Some, like my husband, can roll around in it and never have the faintest itch.

Then you have people like me who look at it and get it from head to toe and often have to go to the doctor to get rid of it. And I'm not kidding about the head to toe part either. I am HIGHLY allergic to the stuff. Several times I've had a doctor prescribe stuff to help get rid of it.

Why am I telling you this? Because it seems my adorable puppy with the big ears and sad eyes apparently got into some poison ivy and gave it to me. ITCH! Itch, itch, itch, itch. OMG it itches. Luckily it's just on my left arm right now, so it's not TOO bad, but I have a barely controlled urge to just stand in a hot shower to help the itching since I can't scratch.

I just had to share my pain.

Squee!

Okay, you should all know that me and my sister don't always get along. And most of her friends I think are total wastes. But she has one friend that I now absolutely adore. He's in the Marines, and is stationed overseas, though I'm not sure where. Apparently he found out that I've started collecting foreign currency - mostly bills, though I wouldn't turn down coins as well - and he's been sending my sister money to give to me. She just came in with money from Afghanistan and Pakistan to give to me. This isn't the first time either.

Pity my collection is itty bitty right now, but I've just started! Three countries in less than a year isn't too bad, right? Especially when one of those countries I actually went to?

Had to laugh

Okay, so Andy and I just had a Resident Evil marathon. Watched all three movies, ending a couple hours ago. He's asleep, I have the tv on for background noise. I happen to glance over at the screen when an Olay commercial comes on. I don't know what it is precisely that they were selling, as I got caught on one simple fact - the container thing that they showed looked pretty much identical to the one that the T-Virus was in. You know those spiral tubes? Yeah, those.

Does this mean that if you use that product you'll turn into a zombie? 'Cause if so, I know some people I wanna send it to...

Bleh.

Bored. Bored, bored, bored. I'm always bored lately. I think it has something to do with the whole being a stay-at-home mom thing and doing the same thing over and over again. And I'm sure that being at home constantly with my son, niece, and now puppy, a good chunk of it without any adults and occasionally without any car doesn't help any though.

There's more, but I'm done ranting. I hate ranting. Even if it makes me feel better, I hate doing it.

Andy's sweet sympathy...

So I have tendinitis in both my knees. Think it goes back to when I played soccer in middle and high school. It doesn't bother me often, though there are predictable times when my left knee bothers me.

So earlier Andy was getting ready for work, and was checking the weather to see if he needed to take the truck or could ride his motorcycle in. While he was doing this, I mentioned that my knee was bothering me. His response?

"Shit. It's gonna rain."

How's that for sympathy? Even though he is right.

Bastard.

Jul. 6th, 2008

I'm a bum

Okay, I know I promised pics and I haven't delivered. Yet. But I will! Eventually! Right now though I have to talk about the puppy a little more.

He is absolutely adorable. He has huge ears, huge paws, but the rest of him is so little! He trips over his ears regularly, and it's so cute! He's also 50% total lazy bum, cuddly puppy, and 50% ankle biter. Meaning that he's either running around crazy, chewing on everything with those needle sharp puppy teeth, or he's trying to curl up on someone (Usually me) and fall asleep. One morning I woke up to find myself wearing a puppy for a hat. He also likes my earrings. He tries to chew on them - while I'm wearing them!

But still, we're happy. Adore the little guy, and Alex is starting to get used to him. He still freaks when the puppy is playing, but he'll voluntarily pet him now, which is a MAJOR improvement. Maybe we've managed to keep him from being scared of dogs for life.

Another thing, tonight, after the kids crashed, four of us got together with booze and played Cranium Wow. I don't know if it was the game or the booze (Though one of us was stone sober) but we were laughing our asses off. Tears were pouring down my cheeks. My mouth hurt from smiling so much. I fell. Several times. But then, I was totally trashed. It's hours later and I'm still drunk, and that rarely ever happens. Still, we had a blast. I need more fun times like that.

P.S. I've gotten hooked on this little sim game called Virtual Villagers 3. But the damn people keep dying! DAMN YOU FATE! YOU KILLED MY TRIBE!

Curse!

The one thing I can't find...

I am a sad, sad Meg. I happened across a pair of Jack Daniels pajamas a while back, and had to get them. They're comfy, they're awesome. They're my favorite PJs. Only I don't like Jack Daniels. I'm a tequila girl. You should all know that. But I can only find XXX tequila and Patron tequila pajamas, and only the pants. No Jose! Where is my Jose!!! :(

On a happier note, did find a couple cool tank tops on eBay that I'm contemplating buying. Hmm...

Also, for you other alcoholics, I give you this.

Puppy!

So we have a new puppy! We 'gave' Alex a Christmas present this most recent Christmas, consisting of a leash and collar, telling him we were getting him a puppy. And now, we have! It's an ADORABLE basset hound Alex has named 85. He's a total sweetheart, and loves to cuddle. Oh, and he's excellent with the kids so far, but then, we've only had him like 6 hours so far. :P

Only have one picture so far, but I'll take more tomorrow. BETTER ones tomorrow.

Burlesque!

So, Andy heard a thing on the radio about a burlesque show being done near us, so we went, with my sister as DD. The show itself? Not all that great, and nothing like what I expected? The high points? Loved the name and attitude of one of the girls - Southern Belle from Hell. Of course, that could be lingering drunkeness. Andy and Heather got me trashed. Trashed enough that I didn't fight when when they called for volunteers to get up on stage to shake their booties and my sister dragged me up there.

And boy, I sure do shake it when I'm drunk. I totally won, but the damn thing was rigged. Boo. Also, they had an AWESOME corset I wanted but couldn't afford. Pink with skulls! Squee!

That is all, now drunken me is tired of typing. Nini!

I haz tattoo!

For my birthday Andy asked me what I wanted, and I said...A tattoo. So yesterday, the day after my birthday, we went down to the same place I got my first one with Andy and my sister, and I got my second tattoo. Squee! I love it. It's a dragon that wraps around half my ankle. It is <3.

What was surprising was that it hurt SO much less than the tattoo on my back. Like, after the first thirty seconds, it was a minor irritation more than pain - except when a nerve was hit. And afterwards it didn't hurt at all. From the time I hopped out of the chair until I passed out last night, I had no problems. And I was sitting on it. The only thing that has bothered it so far is hot water and that just sorta stung a little.

I will post pics as soon as I get someone to take a piccie of it, since there isn't any redness or swelling anymore. Whee!
