| Corset attempt |
[10.6.08 - 11.05pm] |
I have finally finished my corset, this is my 3rd corset, it's not perfect but I think I am finally getting there. Let me know what you all think, and any helpful comments would be very much appreciated!!
I seem to be haviing difficulty getting the front part of my corset straight! Not sure if it is my body or my pattern cutting skills! Any tips? I haven't inserted a busk as prefer them without, it gives a nicer curve to the front. It is made out of coutil, spiral bones and silk dupioni top fabric.

| I've done it! |
[10.6.08 - 4.11pm] |
I've just ordered the supplies for my first corset.
I'd love to think I can get it done before Halloween, but, I'm thinking this is very, very unlikely. Particularly since I REALLY should do a muslin mock-up first, and, my sewing skills are out of practice.
I'll be using the Laughing Moon Dore corset pattern. I've heard many wonderful things about it. Additionally, I'll be getting a kit with the Embroidered bleached coutil in white with peach embroidery. The goal is to overdye it in a rust shade. If the peach takes the dye -- it'll be a darker shade. If it doesn't, it'll still be in the same range of what I want.
I'm looking at using this for a chemise/slip.
If I don't get it done for Halloween, I'm hoping to have it done before CostumeCon in May. I've also already collaborated for the proper mask to go with it. That I *will* have before Halloween. It's just a matter of getting the rest put together. :)
So... am I crazy for thinking about trying to get this done before Halloween?

I have a corset that I made back in high school that seems to have lost the ghost so to speak. Last night I lost a grommet and am about to tear another out. Also the seems seem to be going through a little bit of shredding. I have thought about sacrificing it and taking the boning, busk and lace and trying to remake a new version of it. I was thinking about using lacing bones. Does anyone have any experience with them? Do they help from losing grommets, this is the first time it has happened, but now i am all paranoid about it? Is it wrong to destroy my first corset to make a new one?

So, I wake up, put on the news (which I really need to STOP DOING) But I see the dow has a dramatic drop, world economies are panicking, and the candidates are really pulling out all the stops.
This is going to be a more dramatic week than I originally thought.
It's kind of like the WWE. This is better than the Stars winning the Stanley Cup - with all the controversy to go along with it.
EDIT - LOL - Newscaster said that "Obama and McCain are fighting to inherit this financial crisis." Happy birthday to them!

| Travel Accoutrement |
[10.6.08 - 2.44pm] |
Because you asked for it.....another leather map case and this one has a strap to keep from losing the top (thanks everyone for that suggestion!) . Custom orders for these have left me with only precious minutes to make stock ones for sale...but this one is available.

Travel is liberating, exciting and invigorating. But explorations of foreign lands can also be unsettling and disorienting. The fear of the unknown is lessened when a traveler can depend on his airship pilot to guide with vision and confidence.
Of course, maps are a necessary tool for airship pilots. With proper and well-charted maps a pilot can explore the world in confidence, taking his passengers to places that will awe and inspire. A quality map case for storage and protection of their valuable charts of travel is an important accessory for any airship pilot.
This handcrafted one-of-a-kind vegtan leather case is quite suitable for maps and charts for the airship pilot. The 8 1/2” long brown dyed tube with formed top is 1 ½” diameter...ample size to hold quite a few rolled maps and charts. Three leather bands encircle the tube and are accented with brass painted tooling and brass rivets. The top is attached to the case with a small strap and finished with a leather loop to hang from a belt.
Two antiqued maps included to get you started on your travels!

Hi there! This is my first time posting in here and I'd need some help. I have only ten days 'till the Tsukicon (from Finland I am) and AAAAAARGH! So, here's my costume: http://mlaa.deviantart.com/art/First-attempt-99988782 Fear my awesome photographer skillz! 8D So, the problem is mainly this: How to put my hair? As you can see in that left pic, I have long hair with bangs and it doesn't tame with pins or anything. I also can't make it curly. :( Stupid hair. Or will I just use that wig as shown in those two other pics? (That costume is still missing my purse, a pouch, pocketwatch and my cuffs... Maybe my gun, if I can finish it in time) THANK YOU FOR HELPING! <3

So, I'm new to Steampunk, but I've always loved the design/idea. My friends and I are coming up with our costume groups for Dragon*con 2009 (yes, already! We need time to sew. o.O) and we decided that we want to do a steampunk-esque alice in wonderland group. I know a lot of people say that its over-done, but I think we can pull it off without making it look cliche.
Anyways, I wanted your suggestions for my design. I'm doing the white rabbit.

I've got a sewing project in the works and a half-finished steampunk-apothecary office, but pictures of those will have to wait. I have in my hands my first COMPLETED project in the steampunk genre: my beloved flask! It is known that I am a bit of a lush, so naturally this would be the first thing I finish.
( This-a-way for my rough-and-ready drink dispenser! )
This baby will be strapped to my thigh with a nice spiked garter for my steampunk madam costume, so I'll have photos of it with the rest of the outfit up towards the end of the month.

| A jester for the court... |
[10.6.08 - 10.35am] |
I am seeking inspiration for the outfitting of a jester. However, I am attempting to dress this jester in the victorian era, rather than the 'doublet-puffy pants-hose-pointed shoes' attire of an earlier time period that comes to mind when someone says "jester".
Essentially, for the revelry of All Hallow's Eve one persona my husband is considering is a wicked jester of the underworld, coming up from the depths to jest and jolly with the humans for the night, on that night when such things are possible. We are thinking sleek, evil, dark, and formal, with the touches needed to show he does jest and mock, perhaps at the court of the king of the underworld himself, and that he is not of this world above. And...for whatever reason...the king of the underworld has decided his court is a steampunk court.
Heh.
We are constructing the ubiquitous hat, of course, much darker and less jolly than the typical jester hat, but recognizable as such. And a scepter, as well. But for the clothing...I'm not sure just a victorian suit would do. I needs...something more than just a suit and the hat, I feel. But I can't think of what would be appropriate, or, if it were a suit, exactly what look of suit would, to play on words, suit the look! And though the court is steampunk, we are looking for more of the clothing of that asthetic, and not so much of the wonderful gadgetry; that will be for another occasion.
And, it should also be noted that if all goes as planned, this demonic jester will be seven feet tall.
...
Do any of you fine ladies and gentlemen have possible suggestions to help bring this idea to fruition? I acknowledge that my request is both unusual and a bit challenging, and I thank you, in advance, for any assistance you could offer.

So I'm browsing the interweb and looking for Patlabor models (another passion of mine). Anyways, I ran across Crazy-Gon that was part of the UltraSeven series (Ultraman). This is Japanese steampunk circa 1967.
![[image]](http://img490.imageshack.us/img490/9995/crazygon9hx.jpg) Here's the back story on Crazygon from Monster Archives. With some powers listed below:
- Energy Ray: Crazygon can fire a powerful energy ray from the antenna on his head.
- Steam: Crazygon can emit a cloud of steam from the pipes on sides of his head.
- Grabbing Claw: Crazygon is equipped with a massive grabbing claw for its left hand.

| two questions, rhinestoning and boning channels!! |
[10.6.08 - 1.07pm] |
|
Hi! Im very close to finishing my extended suspender corset, which Ive used hundreds and hundreds of clear crsytal stones on to bling it up (it looks amazing!) but Ive found it very difficult getting the rhinestones on with ease, speed and then durability, I quickly find that I have to re-attach them with superglue, as was suggested to me a few weeks ago! Have just noticed a "bejeweller deluxe" which seems to be the same principal, but i wondered if anyone had tried both and found either to be more succesful? My second question regards boning channels! Ive recently switched to an industrial machine after killing my beautiful janome quilters machine repeatedly, My old domestic used to have a foot that was the absolute perfect width for the 7mm boning I use, which meant that every time I got perfectly parralell boning channels with very little effort or planning! I now find that my industrial, whilst having a very nice stitch and being vastly more dependable, is stuck with the centre needle posiiton only, meaning I cant use a standard foot as a guide, and even when I spend ages carefully drawing the lines on with my chalk and a seam allowance guide, I end up with something that, whilst not shockingly wonky, is not the perfect, polished lines that i hope for! has anyone overcome this annoyance?
Thanks in advance for any feedback!

| Costumes for sale |
[10.6.08 - 1.50am] |
Hi! I'm moving soon and doing the massive closet cleanout. I have a bunch of costumes listed for sale on ebay for really low prices. Costumes include: a bunch of Psycho le Cemu costumes, Hogwarts Ravenclaw sweater and Mad Mod from Teen Titans.
http://shop.ebay.com/merchant/jeanwaywu_W0QQ_nkwZQQ_armrsZ1QQ_fromZQQ_mdoZ
I also have some armor/jewelry pieces from my old Terra (FFVI) costume if anyone is interested: http://www.fleur-de-lys.net/transfer/ebay/terra1.jpg . The shoulder armor is made from polystyrene plastic and has velcro on the backside so you can attach it to shoulder straps. Unfortunately the dress got ruined while in storage or I'd be selling the whole thing as a set. I'm asking $15+shipping for these pieces. If anyone is interested, drop me a line.

| little help? |
[10.6.08 - 1.32am] |
so, i'm wondering if someone could assist me... i've got this idea for a jacket, and thanks to someone from here pointing out a mega sale on international male, i have the leather to get it made... but i need some kind of design reference.
anybody out there willing to take a pic of me and a pic of the jacket, then my written description of the idea, and give me a couple sketches i could show to a tailor?
( pics this-a-way! )
see, i have to have this thing tailor in the first place just to get it to fit. the sale previously mention was excellent, yes. the jacket was only 25 bucks! (real seude too!) however... it's a size "small" and as is clearly seen here, i'm... uh... not. closer to a xxl, actually. so, i figure, while having it tailored to fit, i'll customize it too!
if i were to have a persona of a steamy nature, it would, undoubtedly, be an air pirate and gambler extrodianaire, like Setzer from final fantasy 6, if anyone's played it back in the day. hence my love of trench coats. for starters, i'm thinking the addition of a hood, making it both a trench coat and a clock to an extent is in order. beyond this, ....well, in all honesty... i'm open to suggestions. i absolutely love the jacket seen towards the end of Pride and Prejudice, worn by the imimently fashionable Mr. Darcy. the way it flows is simply inspiring! i'm sure we've seen the scene i refer to... hopefully. cause i can't find a screenshot.
anyway! really, i'm open to ideas. i'm a fashion admierier, not a designer. the jacket as you can see is brown, and seuede. i have PLENTY of materil, thanks to have two of them, so please, be imaginative.
