FANGS UP
I am just about to head off to see THE COBRA with about half the internet! But before I go, a meme. This has been done about a thousand times, but I've never participated before, so.

1. Leave me a comment saying, "Interview me."
2. I will respond by asking you 5 questions.
3. You should then update your LJ with the answers to the questions.
4. You should include this and an offer to interview someone else in the post.
5. When others comment asking to be interviewed you should ask them 5 questions.

My questions from Lielabell )

Questions from Margot )

I will possibly ETA this with more questions later.

AND NOW, THE COBRA.

I had a dream that HSM3 was EVEN CRACKIER than it actually will be. By A LOT.

First, for some reason, [info]poisonivory and I were watching it on a miniature TV held on our laps, while we were riding a Greyhound bus next to one of the waterfall trails in Ithaca. Why? No idea! But I guess we were going somewhere. *shrug*

So basically, it started out with Gabriella dumping Troy, specifically because she wanted a prettier piece of armcandy and he just wasn't cutting it. Then she was briefly -- actually, extensively -- in what was basically a different movie, specifically The LIttle Mermaid, but not actually, because it was a dream. So she was swimming (as a person) and met a merman who was hot so he kissed her so she could breathe underwater and go with him to wherever it is the merfolk live out in the ocean. They had to pass through some kind of vortex thingies that were basically water wormholes, and at one point a giant pile of dead fish (my brain was kind enough to specify male AND female dead fish) fell out of an ocean cavern wall and she screamed and I think there was some kind of epic battle? Or something? Anyway, she ended up having to find her own way through the vortexes to go back home.

Meanwhile, Ryan was desperately in love with Gabriella -- whaaaat? -- and yet ALSO so incredibly flamingly gay that there was a song and dance number that I'm pretty sure was called "OMG be gayer, Ryan." And I think there was some kind of talent show going on (which would make sense, being HSM and all) but for some reason, he was sulking too hard to participate. Sharpay, meanwhile, had some kind of ludicrous plan to cheat at the talent show (though without ever actually being in the dream itself), so Kelsi had to use her flying belt to zip across what was definitely a science fiction urban landscape to steal Sharpay's plan.

And meanwhile, Troy, Chad, and Zeke (who was not actually Zeke, but just some dude my brain referred to as Zeke) were trying to write a rap song for the talent show. (This was directly out of one of the junior novels, I believe.)

Before it actually got to the talent show, though, we were interrupted on the bus by -- oh lord -- Sarah Palin on a float out on the river, with rainbows behind her, waving and winking. Jess and I were too caught up booing and complaining about how annoying she was to finish the movie.

I DON'T KNOW. It was kind of awesome.

[info]queenitsy: So who are you rooting for at this point in the post season?
[info]harriet_vane: ROCKS FALL, EVERYONE DIES.
[info]queenitsy: No, but seriously.
[info]harriet_vane: I am serious! Who are YOU rooting for? And don't tell me Torre, you can't root for the Dodgers just for Joe Torre.
[info]queenitsy: Uh. Mattingly?
[info]harriet_vane: FAIL.
[info]queenitsy: I know! And I can't root for the Dodgers, they beat the CUBS. The Cubs never hurt no one! If you cheer against the Cubs, you have no soul!
[info]harriet_vane: And I can't root for TAMPA BAY.
[info]queenitsy: But what's your alternative, the Red Sox? HA.
[info]harriet_vane: BITE YOUR TONGUE.
[info]queenitsy: So that leaves...what, the Phillies? Go Phillies? That just doesn't sound right.
[info]harriet_vane: Can't we just keep rooting for the Cubs?
[info]queenitsy: Go Cubs!

Siiiiiiick. Can't breathe, constantly dizzy, ridiculous headache. I think maybe I will just lie around in bed all day. I don't have the energy to even read or anything. Perhaps I will watch Newsies on my computer while lying in bed in the dark.

Whiiiiiiiiiiiiiine.

In other news, for no real reason, I watched the first episode of the Pirates of Dark Water on YouTube last night. It was both better and worse than I remember it. The animation was certainly better (I don't know why, but I remember it as being very choppy and oldschool, Scooby Do-style Hanna Barbara), I love the design of the ships, and the concept was really awesome. It was rather like watching an animated David Eddings series -- naive young boy finds out he's the heir to the throne of a dying world, but can only claim his birthright by going on a quest to find long-lost treasure, aided by a group of misfits. I love the idea of an animated fantasy series that's continuity- and plot-driven.

That said, it was pretty bad. The writing was awwwwful. The way to escape from any dangerous situation seems to be "make the monkey-bird fly you" and yeah, the monkey-bird is just as annoying as I remember.

Oh. And Ren and Tula share voice actors with Superman and Ariel respectively. That was rather disconcerting.

To this day, though, I'm frustrated that the damn series was never finished. I loved it as a kid (I remember when the original mini-series aired, because it replaced Peter Pan for a week and I realized I liked it way better), and I loved some later plot-twists when I saw it a few years later (though I barely recall what they were now).

Anyway. There was no actual point to this entry. I can not think of a satisfying way to end it.

Perhaps I shall make the cat snuggle with me for awhile. She is fluffy and warm.

A tiny bit of productivity
Um, so, I bought most of a new wardrobe today. I spent an incredibly amount of money, but I swear none of it was frivolous -- anyone who has seen my wardrobe (such as it is; there should be quotation marks around the word, honestly) knows I needed some new clothing. And I found the absolute most adorable, cutest winter coat in the entire world. I'm pretty sure. (It's purple. It looks like something Kenley would design on Project Runway -- very early 60s. I look like a plucky girl reporter. It is SO CUTE FOR REAL.) So there's that.

Aside from that, I managed to somehow update all three of my non-LJ blogs this week. It's remarkable, really.

Feminist nerd blog: ABC Family's "Greek": Surprisingly, Really Good! (It is. I swear. You should all watch it: every episode is online at abcfamily.com. DO IT. Come on, the really attractive naked boy in the cowboy hat in my new icon is the male lead! You know you want to see that.)

Active Voice: Two Mini-Reviews: Bruce Coville’s “Alien Adventures” and “Unicorn Chronicles” . What it says in the title. Bruce Coville rulez!

Tweenage Wasteland: The Suite Life on Deck. You guys, it was bad. Even for the Disney Channel. Even for The Suite Life. Really, really bad.

OH! And I cooked dinner, specifically with plans to save the extra for lunch tomorrow. I never do that! (It's veggie fried rice, if you're curious. I expanded the list of "things I can cook" another meal. Now I can have spaghetti OR rice, thank you very much...)

ETA: YES, I CAN SPELL "COAT," SHUT UP RACHEL.

Something to cheer for!!
So the Yankees were disappointing this year, but as everyone knows, I am a HUGE Mike Mussina fangirl. I LOVE him and fangirl him wildly -- he's a great pitcher, he's a smart guy, he's ruggedly handsome.

And in his what, 19th year in the major leagues, at the age of 39, my baby FINALLY has a 20-win season. HELL YEAH, MOOSE. ♥ ♥ ♥ This is what a career renaissance looks like!

How long does this take to wear off?
So...I've been feeling a bit under the weather this week. Bleh. So today, the managing editor -- also feeling a bit sick -- picked up some Tylenol Cold and offered me some.

We realized after the fact it was nighttime medication. We realized that when we both -- well, mostly me -- completely lost the ability to do work. It was startling like being drunk, actually; I couldn't type well, I couldn't keep track of conversations, I all but collapsed. I've never reacted like that to anything before -- codine helps me sleep, but neither benadryl nor nyquil even makes me sleepy. I don't know what it was.

But I left work at 3:30, got home at 4, and slept until 7. Now I'm going back to bed, because I'm still exhausted. Weird.

In other news, Rachel and I just watched four episodes of Greek. CAPPIE. MARRY ME. THROUGH THE TV! That is all.

From [info]revena:

Take a picture of yourself right now.
Don't change your clothes, don't fix your hair - just take a picture.
Post that picture with NO editing.
Post these instructions with the picture.

It was after work. I was sleepy.

(Done with my lovely iSight camera because Rachel's digital camera is soooooo far away on the other side of the room...)

I make faces. )

So today started off really badly, and then was just long and stupid and annoying and blaaaaah the rest of the day, and whiiiiiine, and whatever, and then I got home and discovered someone ([info]harmonyangel?) had mailed me a GIANT POSTER OF CORBIN BLEU.

It made me super happy. I totally needed the smile. :)

(It was confusing, because it took me forever to find the information on who had sent it, but the place it actually shipped from is a library in Georgia, and I have a friend who's a Georgian librarian, but is not Jen! Worked it out eventually, though. ♥)

whoops!
Fresh Direct just delivered several boxes of delicious foodstuffs to our apartment! Hooray! However, one of them was definitely not intended for us. And while I don't the extra beefsteak tomatoes -- yum! -- and heck, I don't mind the corn on the cob or the giant broccoli, it just seems like a shame that the ham and the chicken are going to go to waste in apartment of strict vegetarians...

ETA: Tomato was delicious! Nom nom nom.

bloggery of interest
Writing-wise, this has been a crazy productive week for me. (Word count will be posted at [info]temira as usual tonight.) Here's what I've written online of late:

- Another Situation at the feminist nerd blog, about what happened when [info]poisonivory and I went to a baseball game and I got very angry at some ill-behaved fans.

- Old School Review: The Protector of the Small Quartet (First Test, Page, Squire, Lady Knight), because my dad (yeah, he has an LJ: [info]loondave4824445) mailed them to me weeks ago and I felt I should actually read them. Too lazy to read they review? They scored four cupcakes.

I also just finished rereading the first two books in he Unicorn Chronicles, because [info]second_batgirl gave me the third book for my birthday! Now that I remember what happened in the first two, I can read the new one. I also recently finished Eight Men Out, because I am still building up my nerdy baseball knowledge. It was pretty awesome.

ETA: I seem to be Twittering the VMAs. Here.

the kitty who cried wolf. or "YOW!"
So Lilly's breakfast schedule is ever-changing: whoever gets up first feeds her. During the school year, this is usually Rachel, and she gets accustomed to a 6:30 breakfast. During the summer, it's me, and she gets accustomed to an 8:30 breakfast. But the weekend is always anything goes, because we both sleep in. (Well, me more than Rachel, but you know.)

Yesterday morning, Lilly cried and cried an cried. Loudly. For those who are not familiar with my cat, we sometimes refer to her as our fuzzy fire truck, because she is THAT LOUD. So around 7, I got up, fed her, and stumbled back to bed.

An hour later, Lilly began crying again. I didn't get up, because I knew she'd already had breakfast, and I didn't care that much. I dozed through it. Rachel, however, got up and gave her a second breakfast, not realizing she'd already eaten. Later, we mentioned how loud she'd been, realized we'd both fed her, and glared at her while she licked her paws smugly.

So this morning Lilly meowed and meowed. I figured Rachel probably fed her, and ignored her. She continued to meow. Rachel, as it turns out, assumed I had fed her, and she just wanted second breakfast. So Rachel ignored her. So Lilly was left crying for about four hours, and got no breakfast until almost noon.

I feel like there should be some kind of moral in that. But being a how she's a cat, I doubt she learned a valuable lesson.

An unexpected benefit of hosting that shindig last night was that one of my awesome coworkers brought cupcakes from Magnolia, and declined to bring the extras home when she left. Meaning I now have several very delicious cupcakes all for myself! (And Rachel.)

So I hosted a party tonight! I've never done such a thing before (no, I don't count cast parties in mod 10 -- they were neither planned nor financed by me). Mostly it was folks I work with, though Jess and a few of Rachel's friends also came. We had dinner, drinks, and played pop culture trivial pursuit. A good time was had by all (at least to the best of my knowledge).

Employee review went well, I think.

Night.

things that cause me stress
So once upon a time I was told by ConEd that a) our account at our previous apartment was canceled, and b) it had been moved to our current address. So today, when I received both a bill for August at our old apartment AND a notice that our power is going to be shut off in THIS apartment, due to non-payment.

FUCKING CON ED.

So the guy who said he canceled our account didn't actually. It turns out he needed RACHEL to do that, and he didn't TELL ME THAT or she'd have called. He said it was done, no problem!

Our apartment management company never changed the account. So we had to convince ConEd to open a SECOND account at this residence, and I need to call the company tomorrow and get them to cancel theirs.

I just -- ARRRRG. Why why why? WHY CAN'T PEOPLE BE COMPETENT AND DO THE THINGS THEY SAY THEY WILL?????

And because when it rains, it pours, my company was sold last week. AND I have an employee review tomorrow. The two are not related; the first is actually good, because my job is safe and now I get better benefits (dental! vision! a 401k! huh?), the second is intimidating, but hopefully will have positive results.

JUST, STRESS.

I love that on Gossip Girl, I can't tell if a character is telling a ludicrous lie, or if it's just a ludicrous plot twist.

Thank goodness for new TV seasons.
