More on the abuse of statistics [Jul. 20th, 2008|01:16 pm]

[mood | amused]

Hey I found some people who misuse statistics the way I described it for their own ends and they are making loads of money with it. If I wanted money in life I could just ditch honesty and decency and make money with crap. Naaaah don't wanna.

The appeal for more statistics [Jul. 18th, 2008|12:57 pm]
[Tags|, ]
[mood | busy]
[music |radio]

Why is it that I read papers by other scientist and ask myself why the Journal published that crap it in the first place.

Problem with app. 50% of the papers where I ask myself that is in many cases that the presented data is completely random. A standard deviation which is as big as the value that is shown makes the data useless. Well d'uh. But still they publish their creatively explained data anyway and get a paper in a well known journal.

Why? There is no gain in knowledge because the data could be coincidental. What is the point of science if coincidental things are assessed as valuable pieces of information?

With that mind set I could practically prove anything I want. I could raise a data set about the existence of my foot in your ass nose pimples and conclude that everybody has them because my three subjects had them. Or even worse I could conclude that everybody has my foot in their collective ass nose pimples because one of my three subject had them. Horrid.

I am all for educating scientist better in statistics. Because even if you obtain data from more than three people it could be a random scatter and not a normal distribution.

But hey many biologists don't check their statistics because they are lazy bastards. They just make experiments and publish them without ever realizing that data which they obtained might not have any relevance at all because they did not have the nerve to learn a little bit of statistics. It is really naive to assume that chance isn't influencing your data and under these circumstances it is very difficult to have any gain in knowledge. Even though nothing in life is sure and experimental data isn't, good statistics can make them fairly reliable.

Subrosam is probably laughing his ass off right now because my remarks about statistic are really superficial but I've read so many faulty papers in the last week that I had to say something publicly.

Summertime when the living's easy [May. 16th, 2008|12:09 pm]

[mood | amused]

So I went to see Moneybrother yesterday with a friend and my boyfriend. I was suprised how much fun it was. The leadsinger was constanly fooling around on stage and the band was really skilled especially the drummer.  And the singer is very handsome too. ^__^

http://www.moneybrother.net/

The audience was mostly female and under 20 at least in the corner where I was standing. What I did not understand was the 16 or 17 year-old who stood beside me the whole concert and never moved a limb. Why do you go to a concert and stand paralyzed in the audience? That's gotta be so boring.
The only thing I did not like was that all of the teenies around me had to take pictures with their mobile phones- all the time. I understand the notion of taking a picture to remeber stuff by. When taking pictures with your phone( which were blurry 90% of the time) becomes more important than the concert where is the fun? Apart from the flash being irritating.

In Flames- Leeches (http://www.inflames.com/)

Leeches like leeches "in ignorance we trust"
if you say this way i will take that way
fuel for the fire on which I thrive
Spit me out, I'm glad I don't belong
Save me the speech, you'll be forgotten and gone

It burns it rips it hurts
Leeches, they preach to us words of wisdom from blocked minds
Spit me out, I'm glad I don't belong
Save me the speech, you'll be forgotten and gone

It burns it rips it hurts, they make you bleed your turn
The chance of a lifetime, how does it feel to be alive?

A tear for the poet that can't be heard
praise the artist that steals.

Spit me out, I'm glad I don't belong
Save me the speech, you'll be forgotten and gone

It burns it rips it hurts, they make you bleed your turn
The chance of a lifetime, how does it feel to be alive?

Spring has arrived, how nice.
Today I read the page of Dragonmeet 2008. It sounds good and it's been awhile since I've visited London so that would be a good opportunity. I'll go an check if there are any cheap flights and hostels.

Question for today: What do I want to become? And to what purpose?

Memo to self:
- Inner child
- Da Squad
- Malachia
- das 1. Monster
all want to be completed so go and be that girl.

Die grauen Herren [Apr. 25th, 2008|04:23 pm]
[Tags|]
[mood | thoughtful]

Krezip- All unsaid

if you were here now
then i would tell you that this is not the way
then i would force you
to make your choices and get out of my way

just scream, but there's no one there to hear or hold your hand
i'd rather talk to you than leave it all unsaid
it's all unsaid, it's all unsaid

don't run away now it's not my choice
don't try to make it feel that way
did all i could but your heart is empty
so i won't let you win

just scream, but there's no one there to hear or hold your hand
i'd rather talk to you than leave it all unsaid
it's all unsaid

hey, if you think i don't mean well
then i can't help you further no
you don't have to do it on your own, on your own no
how far did you think i'd go
begging you until i die
well i won't let it come that far, i won't

just scream, but there's no one there to hear or hold your hand
i'd rather talk to you than leave it all unsaid
it's all unsaid, it's all unsaid

Life in a waiting loop [Mar. 27th, 2008|01:39 pm]

[mood | waiting]

Imagine "Für Elise" by Beethoven as background music and a nice nondescript female voice telling you "please hold the line" then you know what my life is like right now

Waiting for people to answer my applications is kind of annoying.

Waiting for my experiment is necessary.

Waiting for my sample to thaw is nice because I can be artsy in the mean time

Waiting for paint to dry is nice and long overdue.

Waiting for the weekend so I can see my boyfriend just plain sucks.

Waiting for my family to recognize me as the individual that I am and not as who they want/fear me to be is hopeless.

Waiting for my life to happen is stupid because it is happening while waiting on it to happen.

Waiting for an end is not an option.

Your products suck. Badly.
This is one of the reasons why:
Making a presentation with Powerpoint (WinXP) is ok, even though it is a bit unnerving that you can not intuitionally turn off cross linkage with other programs. Transporting it to my work place and then opening it there with another version of Powerpoint (2000) your nice little program instantly deleted my animations which wasn't catastrophic but an anoyance.
But what followed was a catastrophe. Saved File to my stick went home, wanted to work on it some more. Powerpoint then proceeds to tell me that the data isn't complete and fails to open it. As that one was the only file in reach I had to find a way to make the corrupt file work again. So I tried everything with your horrible products but they wouldn't even tell me what exactly was wrong with the file.
So I opened it with Open Office which wasn't a problem, saw that I lost some of the formating corrected it and saved it again in two different places. Opened it with your program to be sure it works and went to work.
Where Windows again tells me that it can't read it's own dataformat and refuses to open the file. Please Microsoft get this: I DO NOT CARE THAT YOUR STUPID PROGRAMS LOST PART OF MY DATA I just want to look at the rest of my Data to make the file whole again. (And yes I checked, it is not a problem of my memory stick because all other files from it work fine)
Thus your sofware sucks. This is horrible coding. Why can none of your newer products be compatible with your older ones? It can't be that hard. Other companys are capable of it so you shoud be too. Unless you only employ insane monkeys which to tell you the truth is my impression of your work.
I'll just switch to Linux as soon as I can and never buy one of your faulty and overexpensive products again.

Yours unfaithfully and very annoyed
Pythia
