1:11 pm - ENOUGH OF THIS!!!
The right-wing is at it AGAIN!

They're trying to suggest that an old news story about the US shipping several tons of uranium out of Iraq confirms that Bush had indeed found WMDs in Iraq, and that this is only now coming to light because the corporate media had buried this story.

Well fuck you -- they didn't bury it -- I remember having to debate it in 2004 with so many ditto-heads it was just frustrating as hell.

It wasn't buried at all -- it was DEBUNKED, it's old, and -- if you want the full story -- it's an embarrassing tale of the fuck-up that was the Iraq invasion.

The fact is, the uranium is a left-over from Saddam's nuclear program, that was ABANDONED in 1991!
It was not weapon grade, the uranium was in its natural state. It was stored, and UNTOUCHED.

The IAEA, the CIA, and the FBI knew about this material, and their reports still conclude: no WMDs or WMD programs in Iraq. This is not buried information; this is simply old.

That anyone in the right-wing is claiming that this is important now, is ignorant of the fact that US forces did nothing to guard the Tuwaitha facility where this material, and several other deadly things, were stored... and -wait for it- LOOTED!!!...

That's right -- this so called proof of Saddam's WMDs, was actually so unimportant during the invasion and occupation that the leaders of the US forces allowed over 20% of the material to be taken to who knows where.

The very thought that right-wingers are trying to shovel this as a victory for Bush's rhetoric (again) are actually reminding us of yet another colossal failure of the Bush administration's war planning.

SOURCES:
The yellowcake removed from Iraq - which was not the yellowcake that President George W. Bush claimed, in a now discredited section of his 2003 State of the Union address, that Saddam was trying to purchase in Africa - is used in an early stage of the nuclear fuel cycle. Only after intensive processing does it become low-enriched uranium, which can fuel reactors producing power.

"Did the Fox News audience catch those qualifiers? Or did they hear "confirmed ... plutonium"? I contacted Fox News to find out of this story had ever been retracted, but as of this writing I have not received a response."
http://www.mahablog.com/oldsite/id13.html

U.S. troops are now guarding the research center, but looting nonetheless has continued, and scientists are worried that missing nuclear material can result in a slew of safety and health problems

Villagers near Iraq's largest nuclear research facility complain that they are falling ill from what doctors say may be radiation poisoning.
http://www.cnn.com/2003/WORLD/meast/05/16/sprj.nilaw.iraq.radiation/

The uranium is mostly in the form of yellow cake, an isotopically natural form that is an impure oxide. There is a small quantity of low-enriched and depleted uranium. Typically, the IAEA would conduct an NPT safeguards inspection at this location annually. The last inspection was conducted in December of 2002.

Press Briefing by Ari Fleischer April 22, 2003.
http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2003/04/20030422-5.html

Now, I remind you -- look at those dates. Not only is this an old story, but it's one the White House ADMITTED to long ago as well.

Thus, the following is STILL true...

Bush was wrong to invade.
The war is illegal.
There were no WMDs OR! ongoing WMD programs.

The information Bush got may have been misleading Bush, but then again, the Bush administration did put many officials from their office in place to filter that information before it reached the White House anyway.

We have proven this time and time again. If the right-wing wants to go another round, that's fine by me. I love kicking your asses all over with the FULL facts.

*sigh*

Simply rehashing old stories and claiming that, because the short-memory cursed public doesn't remember hearing about it, it must have been a controversial cover-up -- IS BULLSHIT.

Only people desperate to justify murder would latch onto this pile of lies -- again.

12:30 pm - God is God. Truth is Truth. Ceremony is bullshit. Men just call it by different names...
No drawings of Muhammad because it may lead to idolatry and then the drawings could become more important than the message or the messenger. Makes sense, but breaking that rule shouldn't lead to violence.

And didn't all those Western religions have a good laugh over that bit of backwards traditionalism after those cartoons broke out?...

But, before you go pointing fingers at third world nations, remember that America has such states as West Virginia, Oklahoma, and...

FLORIDA!!!

No drawings of Muhammad? How about -- some guy declares a piece of flat-bread is a piece of Christ's flesh, and the instant he does that, you have to turn cannibalistic and eat it, OR ELSE!

Once again:

Proof that it's not about the kind of religion therein, but the type of people who follow it.

9:36 am - Unity...
On NPR today, I heard a short interview with a Hillary Clinton supporter who said she was now going to vote for John McCain because of remarks made by another pastor of Obama's church (not rev. Wright)...

Okay... Let's forget that the church itself suspended the pastor for the remarks. Let's forget that Obama withdrew his decades old membership from that church over those remarks, despite the church's actions. Let's forget that this shows Obama's faith is not based on an institution, which is a very positive thing.

Let's just consider the reality of the wounds that were opened up by this primary season: Obama is not linked to the misogynistic remarks made by a handful of idiots on the internet. Hillary is not linked to the backwards bigotry of some of the middle American voters.

Obama did not make gender a prime issue in this race. The Obama campaign is not one thoughtless preacher in Illinois.

Hillary did not make minority status a prime issue in this race. The Hillary campaign in not some dumbass redneck in West Virginia.

That was us. We did that.

WE made the primaries personal.

This is our fault...
...the bad feeling left in the wake of the primaries are OUR mess to deal with, not the candidates. We must put that all aside.

So, to blame any candidate for those hurt feelings you have and then claim you will be switching parties out of bitterness is the HEIGHT of foolishness.

...

Barack or Clinton -- the party is the same. You cannot look at John McCain and tell me that he and the people he represents, the people who created most of our problems, are the same people who will solve these problems. You cannot tell me that McCain and the Republican party will bring women equality. And you cannot tell me another four years in the wrong direction is the answer you seek in response to Obama's campaign.

Here's the deal -- Republicans came out to vote in their primary in record numbers. But Democrat caucus and primary voting numbers EXPLODED; at a ratio of over three to one over Republicans. This nation has simply never seen that kind of response before. This means one thing: if we continue to stand together, we cannot lose. Hell, let them try to steal the election -- with that many people standing in unity against Republicans, there's no way they can hide their election fraud this time.

...

Drop the issues YOU brought to the primaries. Recognize what is REALLY at stake. VOTE for the direction you want this nation to go in. DO NOT allow pettiness and bitterness to enter your decision making process. And do not listen to the lies of Republicans as they, once again, try to cash in on the divisiveness within America.

Please -- Stand with Obama.

11:37 am - An old enemy resurfaces. You know the name, but fail to see within you.
I am just...
...literally stunned (seriously, I can't move a muscle for a full minute) by some of the things I have heard, read, and seen from the American public regarding race this year...

We think in terms of ourselves -- and we consider all the MILLIONS of different things that went into making us who we are as an individual -- but so many are still unable to comprehend that other minorities are made of individuals too.

No, to them, the one factor that dictates all their actions is the color of their skin, or the flavor of their culture. The other millions of factors that drive their interests, their preferences, their character, ALL OF IT -- is irrelevant for any conclusion.

Let me lay this out again:
Prejudice: we all have this. It's bits of information for how we group and categorize in our minds the things we have experienced, so that we do not need to reprocess the information all over again -- the ability to recognize, in other words. These categories are subject to change with the more we experience.
Bigotry: This is when set categories/prejudices are NOT subject to change, are very broad reaching, and often in denial of new information received. There are many reasons why the thought processes for expanding and narrowing our mental categories shut down -- but usually it's related to fear or lack of experience.
Racism: Simply put -- it's bigotry focused on racial differences. IN this way, the bigotry becomes impossibly broad reaching in order to categorize an ENTIRE RACE as a single entity. Note -- This is not subject to what you do, but what you believe; simply acting appropriate in the presence of other races does not make you less of a racist.

So... there it is.

And here's my confession: I'm bigoted towards rednecks and expressively religious people. But I do try to at least find exceptions, even if my initial reaction is still not positive. My fears that drive this are not hard to discover -- indeed, I probably focus too much on how religion and country living people have failed us in the news I read. I'm working on it...

What's your issue?
