By now you're probably thinking, "Gee, are Provocateur ever going to finish their album? What do these people do all day, anyway?" You may imagine that every time we claim to be hard at work in the recording studio we are actually lounging about in fancy dresses and crisp dress shirts with starched collars and uncomfortable shoes in lavish hotel rooms, gazing sultrily at each other and drinking bourbon. Well, as our photographer friend Ellen Claire recently discovered, the reality is far scarier than anything you could have dreamed: Not only do we do all of these things, we also play chess!

See? )

Feel free to display these portraits prominently on your refrigerator using whatever kind of magnets you think best complement our collective skin tone. And please do rest assured that we really are nearing completion on the album, it's just that sometimes being emotionally unavailable can be a full-time job, you know?

Well, I guess you wouldn't.

Subject:We're going into the studio!

I think the subject line of this blog entry is fairly self-explanatory, but I've been told we need to spruce up a bit on the public relations end of things so let me take this opportunity to throw around some buzzwords and make a few snide remarks so as to appear more "relatable" and remind you that we are still around or something.

Tonight, Thursday the 24th of April, we (that's Provocateur in case you've forgotten who we are at this point) are marching into the studio with our heads held high. Many, many hours later we will re-emerge, and at that point it will probably be the wee hours and we will be moving in more of a crawling motion not unlike the scary dead Asian girls in all those movies, the ones about the scary dead Asian girls being all scary and dead and Asian. What was I on about? Oh, yes, recording. This is exciting for a number of reasons:

  • Hoorah, our album is going to be finished soon. It won't be long then until people are "buying" our album and we become successful enough that I can quit my job... Er, my second job.

  • In any event, one night that we're in the studio is one night that we aren't out in the streets, warming the globe with our cars, or eating too many pastries while watching Miss Rap Supreme on VH1 and talking to our cats.

  • Actually, do any of us have cats? Honeysmacks might, he seems like the cat type. I don't have one. I'd like to have a dog, but I want a husky and it would be too difficult in the city.

  • Obligatory buzzwords/phrases: release date to be announced soon, a town near you, check the website, buy our album, please we're getting kind of hungry, or just sign us to your record label, genre-spanning, danceable, advance single, promotional materials, form-fitting outfits, really quite good.

  • There now, don't you feel informed?

    Hello Provocatators,

It brings us great displeasure to inform you that the Provocateur show scheduled for Saturday, June 23rd at Axis has been cancelled. Without delving into too many specifics, let's just say that it has a bit to do with the impending merger of Avalon and Axis into one raging superclub, the process of which is forcing some dance parties and shows out entirely. We'll be playing again soon, don't you worry.

alright, you asked for it, you got it.

we have posted a charming new ditty to our myspace page for download, and a previously unreleased ditty at that! this also happens to be what some real sexy folks are dancing around in latex to on Friday night at the B&D Ball at the Cyclorama in Boston. so if you are around and don't mind dressing all funny, you should go see Angeldustrial [you may have heard of them] perform to our song about sex, whiskey, and Jesus [you may have heard of him].

"Angels and Whiskey" will be available for download for precisely two weeks. there is a time to act, ladies and gentlemen, and that time is now.

    hello everyone, and happy holidays!

it is with great pleasure that we announce that the production of our long-awaited debut EP, Consider This a Warning, is finally completed, and the CD will be available for sale through our website by the end of the month... just in time to ring in the New Year! the disc features five songs, including some brand new material and an old favorite or two. clips will be made available through our myspace in the coming week, so stay tuned for all the latest information, and be sure to buy a copy or eight when the time comes. they make great presents, and also make for great background music when you're trying to impress the ladies [or gentlemen, or both... we do not judge].

thanks for your continued support, and we hope to be hearing from you soon.

    stay fancy,
    provocateur.

    hello, provocatators.

in the spirit of blatant self-promotion and internet whoring, Provocateur now has a Myspace profile.

    http://www.myspace.com/provocateur

check it out and be the first to hear the full-length master of Boy's Gotta Do. add us, leave us happy comments, tell all of your friends, and we might just return the favor if we think you worthy [ie, if we aren't feeling lazy].

also, if you are in the Boston area, come check out this year's B&D Ball!

    Friday, April 29th, 2005
    Manray nightclub.
    Cambridge, MA
    19+ / doors at 8pm

Angeldustrial will be performing to our music. in other words, come see a bunch of ridiculously hot people dancing to our music in not a whole lot of clothing. you might even get to catch Matty himself in a few, um, compromising positions.

check the Manray site for dress code info, you sloppy sons-of-guns. leave your ratty old blue jeans and your brown shoes at home.

UPDATE: Myspace, although awesome, seems to be constantly undergoing technical difficulties. forgive us if, you know, our profile randomly doesn't show up, or you get randomly deleted from our friends list. it's supposedly being worked on.

Thanks for taking the time to sign up for the Provocateur community. Since you have proven your selfless devotion to us, we will, in return, keep you up to date with all of our CD release news, live dates, and misadventures on the road to Pop Superstardom. There might even be a few Provocatoons, if you are reasonably well-behaved sorts. For now, check out the website, join the mailing list, and send your mother a letter about how awesome we are. Have a swell day.

    cheers,
    =Matthew=
