By and Large is a nautical term. By means into the wind, while large means with the wind. By and large is used to indicate all possible situations "the ship handles well both by and large".

The other night my mom was watching Lily and Lily asked to watch some George. What she means is Curious George, and my mom knows that but George of the Jungle was on so she put that on. And Lily goes "no no no, BROWWNNN George."

HEHEHE.

writing

Amy
Sweet!
Got another paid gig writing an article for the same place as before. I'm excited.

I've been asking the universe for this and it's delivering pretty well. I'm going to keep asking and then doing the work so the Universe knows I mean business ;) I think it's great prep for the marathon that is book writing. Again, writing that 7000 word article gave me the HINT of a taste of that undertaking, yet still knowing I could do it.

So, I'm putting a call out there to you too, LJ. If you hear of anyone looking for interesting writing content, preferably about astrology obviously, I'm totally looking to freelance more more more.

I'm also interested in anyone's ideas about where to look for this kind of gig. Websites, newspapers, anything. All the creative places/websites/what have you, obvious or not, that I could go to see if someone's looking for a freelance writer.

Example articles and references available upon request :)

alanis and the 8th house - Madness
11:43am 11/07/2008

Amy
WOW.
I love Alanis.

And here's the lyrics to her song Madness (thanks [info]delenn99!) which is SUCH a perfect way to express what happens in an 8th house sexual relationship.

Madness
I've been most unwilling to see this turmoil of mine
The thought of sitting with this has me paralyzed

With this prolonged exposure to mirror and averted eyes
I've feigned that I've been waiting: such mileage for empathizing

[Chorus]
And now I see the madness in me is brought out in the presence of you
And now I know the madness lives on, when you're not in the room
And though I'd love to blame you for all, I'd miss these moments of opportune
You've simply brought this madness to light and I should thank you
Oh thank you, much thanks for this bird's eye view
Oh thank you for your most generous triggers

It's been all too easy to cross my arms and roll my eyes
The thought of dropping all arms leaves me terrified

[Chorus]

I'd have to give up knowing and give up being right
You inadvertent hero, you angel in disguise

[Chorus]

prints for my office
01:33pm 09/07/2008

Amy
So, here's an impulsive thing. I knew (sagittarius intuition) that I wanted these, and I didn't freak out about the cost/value ratio. I knew the cost was good and that I could spare the money, so I bought these two prints for my office "Red Arboretum" and "Kiss the Moon":

media and a meme
09:55am 18/06/2008

Amy
I super heart the new Alanis album. As I expected.
It came in the mail from Amazon yesterday. As deeply as I hate junk mail, that's how much I love it when I get mail that's relevant.
Anyhoo, also what came is this book which I saw in a newspaper, of all places, about two weeks ago and decided to get. So far I am not very far in and it's kind of pissing me off. But not in an unforgiveable way so I'm being patient and hoping it has good things to offer.

Ok, so here's a meme. Unfortunately it's astrology based (well, that's not unfortunate except that some of you are not astrology speakers). SO, to enable you non astro geeks to play too, here is a basic and inferior list of what the 12 houses mean so you can play. here is an example of where I stole it from, if you want to see others' examples, and I've included my example as well, obviously, as the template. So reply, delete my answers, and add your own!

What you do is make whatever statement you want that's relevant to you, your life, your attitudes, your activities, that falls in the category of each astrological house (1-12).

What each of the 12 houses mean:
1st house: body, appearance, self-image
2nd house: finances/resources, self-esteem/worth, confidence level
3rd house: communication, siblings, traffic, busyness
4th house: home, family, inner life, subconscious realm
5th house: creativity, what you do for fun and to relax, children
6th house: work, errands/to do list, health
7th house: primary relationships
8th house: sex, death, psychological issues/deep fears, other people's money
9th house: travel, education, philosophy/religion
10th house: career/'calling', reputation
11th house: dreams/goals, peer groups, organizations you are affiliated with
12th house: spirituality/connection with divinity (your own and larger), superconscious realm

Here are my answers:

1. Black vneck tshirt, jeans, black heeled sandals. Very typical.
2. Got the check for selling some astrology articles, a raise at my part time day job, and a bonus for a referral. It's good!
3. Been serving as a confidante even more than usual lately.
4. House a mess as usual but my flowers are looking lovely!
5. Taking breaks by playing very old computer game: Theme Hospital. Heart my daughter. heart heart heart.
6. Too fat. Too busy. Eating poorly.
7. Relationships are all strengthening.
8. Inner mind has awakened again and is finally talking to me again, deep thoughts=happy me.
9. So longing to travel; have to wait until after August event. So longing to return to school, getting that together now. So longing to finish Jeffrey Green correspondence course, going too slowly!
10. Career still in high orbit - so loving it.
11. Many dreams, many goals. Recently discovered source of disappointment is that I can't do them all at once (prog sag moon here). MUCH networking going on still as my reach grows longer.
12. Prog moon moves into 12/Cap next year. Predicting hibernation period while writing a book, to be birthed at 1st house entry. Also predicting loss as it corresponds with my Pluto square.
mood: okay okay

I love her new album already and I've ordered it and it just released today. I heard Underneath. Check it out: http://www.alanis.com/video/underneath.html

My mantra!
Seriously though, the clever way she puts complex lyrics to music and the stuff she talks about. Love her. LOVE.
