Yesterday I bought the new 3 Doors Down album and I'm really enjoying it.

Also, I got a digital camera (a pearl white 6.2MP Kodak) as a graduation present from my mom yesterday. Actually, I got one over the weekend but as it turned out to be a piece of shit and after checking online, I found that about 97 out of every 100 customers who had bought that same brand of camera had also found them to be pieces of shit. Just to warn any of you looking for a new digital cameras, do not buy Sakar/Digital Concepts cameras (they also make the Crayola kids digital camera).

I want to marry David Cook and have his wonderfully musical babies... )

I got in to W&M!!!

I got in to The College of William & Mary!!!!! It's the 2nd oldest college/university in the U.S. and is where Phi Beta Kappa (the academic honor soceity) was founded. For those unaware of the geography, it's about 3 - 3 1/2 hrs from where I live in VA and according to the welcome packet: "150 miles south of Washington D.C., midway between Richmand and Norfolk...."

It's also a pretty damn good school. Transfer students have to have at least a 3.5 (B+) GPA to even be considered.

Whee!!!!!!

Haven't been on LJ much lately. I am so sick and tired of the college transfer application process. Grr.

Bought the incredibly cheesy movies Saved! and D.E.B.S. yesterday from a nearby closing Movie Gallery store (pre-viewed) for $5 a piece.

Got a new cell phone last week and got web axcess added to it yesterday.

Still getting good grades.

Just realizing that I should probably change my LJ's theme.

Take this test!

You rarely need Polyjuice potion because you're usually happy just being you! While you might not make the biggest splash or cause drama, you slowly and steadily win over lots of people who think you're pretty darn wonderful. While you can be a little shy and self-conscious at times (especially around a crush), you're probably considered to be a BFF by more than just one person.

Luckily, your talents aren't just the magic kind. You're also kind and smart and just great to be around. Looks like you'll have a very charmed life indeed!

One Week

Geek Love
A week from today I will be completely done for the semester! Whoo!

Tomorrow before classes, when I have a little more time, I'll probably post a list of thing to-do or things-I'd-like-to-do over the winter break (about 3 1/2 weeks).

I have concluded that I want/need a new UB geekiness icon.

Christmas
So, it just started snowing here a little bit ago. The flakes are small and it's a light snow but it is definitely snow -- the first of the season here.

At 8:12am: It's now coming down harder and faster and it looks like it might be trying to stick. Hmm. That's not really a good thing.

2:25pm: It's stopped snowing here. There were periods of heavy snowfall but it seems to have blown over. No stickage either. Whoo!

An Emotional Night

Last night was Tricia's first band concert. They didn't do too bad. Some people were flat and some were sharp but there wasn't as much squeaking coming from the reed instruments as I remember there being in my first band concert. The 7th and 8th grade bands sounded quite good. The auditorium was literally packed out. Being on the other side, it was an odd and bittersweet experience; I was in band for six years and last night made me miss it so much. And OMG -- Tricia's band teacher/director looks like he should still be in high school but apparently he's been teaching at her middle school for at least three years so he's probably at least my age. And get this -- he looks like the genetic love child of Matthew Perry and Nathan Fillion -- I'm not making that up, my mom totally thinks he does too. You would not believe how much I snarked on him (but not to his face) before the concert, during the breaks, and afterwards b/c he looks like a 15 year old mix of MP and NF. Plus he totally needed a knew belt b/c he kept hitching his pants up.

During the concert I also started praying to God that I marry a man with music in his heart.

After the concert we went to see patches of the AIDS Quilt that were on display and also participated in a candlelight ceremony. I took pictures and I'm glad I did. We've lost two relatives to AIDS. I've contemplated over the years trying to make a patch for our first relative, our cousin Larry who died in '93 at the age of 23 but I've never gotten around to it. And then my Uncle Tony died this past V-day at the age of 41 (he would've been 42 in June) -- except that his death wasn't quite AIDS related (from infection) yet his system was compromised by the AIDS and that didn't help matters. Since we got home last night, I've been very emotional. It's our first Xmas w/out Tony. We'd known he was sick for over a decade but it didn't make it any easier when he died. I keep thinking about him and crying. I wish he hadn't shut us out the last few months he was alive; I wish he would've appreciated us more and not been pissed at us because he made stupid choices most of his life and was now suffering because of them. I wish he hadn't chosen his wife and her family who half the time didn't give a damn about him over us. I wish he hadn't grown so bitter and ungrateful and foolish and angry towards the end. I wish he would've talked to us about it b/c he never would. And I wish that he could've been at peace in his last moments.

Dear Santa...

Dear Santa,

This year I've been busy!

Last Sunday I didn't flush (-1 points). In November I pulled [info]yazethet's hair (-5 points). Last Wednesday I signed my organ donor card (28 points). In March I gave [info]mooners a Dutch Oven (-10 points). Last month I gave [info]akzseinga a kidney (1000 points).

Overall, I've been nice (1012 points). For Christmas I deserve an XBox 360!

5 Days of Classes Left

I gave my final speech in Public Speaking today and I'm so glad it's over. Personally, I feel this speech was the worst I've given all semester despite others telling me that I did I good job. I wasn't happy with the topic I chose and my final thesis I only settled on last night only to revise it this morning while practicing. I forgot a few bits in my speech and I'm not sure I hit the timing I was supposed to (5-7 minutes) having left out some parts. Anyway, I'm really glad it's over with. Technically, there's one more speech, the "final exam" which is going to be in manuscript form and a self-evaluation of my previous taped speeches.

I have quite a busy week this week:

- This evening I have to work on Accounting homework, finish a Chem lab write-up from last week, and do the advance study for tomorrow's lab.

- Tomorrow (Tues) is my long day on campus and then my sister's first band concert is that evening at 7pm and after that we're going to try to go by another college's campus b/c they're going to have patches of the AIDS quilt on display until 10pm tomorrow night (at 9pm they're having a candlelight ceremony that we're hoping to catch too).

- Wednesday before and after my classes I have to get in some studying for my Accounting test that I have Thursday and then that evening I'm providing childcare for communion at my church; also I have a take-home Keyboarding test Wednesday that'll be due Friday.

- Thursday and Friday I can mainly focus on studying for finals, in addition to working on the take-home production/pratical portion of my Keyboarding final.

- Saturday morning I work and then that evening is the Christmas party for the leaders of the high school ministries; slight issue is that I'm scheduled until 4pm and the party is from 4pm-6pm AND I'm supposed to be riding with another of the leaders so I'm waiting to see if the guy I work with that morning will switch in and out times with me b/c if he won't then I either have to see if someone from the night shift is willing to come in at 3pm to relieve me or if someone just wants to take my whole shift--the latter of which I cannot afford.

- Sunday I'm at church volunteering during the day and afternoon and then that night is my church's Annual Volunteer Banquet.

Oy. What have I gotten myself into?

Update--past, present, plans for future

Finals technically begin Tuesday, December 11. My Keyboarding final was supposed to be two weeks from today (the last day of finals, Dec. 14) but the professor isn't going to be available at that time so what she's decided to do is to give us the pratical part to take home next Friday and turn in the following Monday, Dec. 10 and also do the theory part in class that day. What all this means is that after I do my self-evaluation speech for my Public Speaking on Wednesday, Dec. 12 that I'm finished for the semester! Whoo!

So, I sprained my ankle back on November 1st, really bad; I just stopped wearing the splint/air cast/whatever-you-want-to-call-it on Thanksgiving. Anyway, not having insurance, I had to pay out of pocket when I went to the clinic and then I just got the bill for the splint/air cast/whatever-you-want-to-call-it this past weekend. Of course, having cut back my hours at work, I'm lacking on funds. Toss in the fact that our washer broke and we've had to start going to a laundry mat once a week. Things would've been okay if I hadn't sprained my ankle. I'll be working more in a couple weeks, by about 10-15 hours, and I'm selling all of my books back (that they'll take) except for my Chemistry books 'cause I need them for next semester and hopefully I'll get at least $100 back (minus the cost of my Chem books, they cost $450-$500).

And I haven't even started applying for transferring to schools in the fall which I need to get a ball on over break. My short list consists of William & Mary, Mary Washington, and my extremely safe choice of Randolph (formerly Randolph Macon Women's) College.

Ticking away...

So, finals start two weeks from today--'tis craziness, I tell you. I still have an Accounting test next Thursday and I give my final big speech in Public Speaking on Monday and then I get to focus on preparing for my finals.

So, my original fiction...I actually wrote part of it. I'm not sure when I'll post it online. I still have to work on the website, which I haven't even started. It's going to be an online series, kind of like a soap opera.

Can I tell you how annoyed I am at the radio stations that are already playing Christmas music 24/7? It irks, it burns. I love me some Christmas music but not every single minute of every single day, especially not when it starts the weekend before Thanksgiving. I'm fine with every third or fifth or tenth song being a Christmas song up until maybe Dec. 21 or 22--heck, I'm good with radio stations not switching over to nothing but Christmas music until Dec. 24. I think this all goes back to when we had satellite radio at the restaurant and it was mandated that beginning Dec. 1st it had to be on Christmas music from opening at 11am until 3pm and then the managers were free to change to station and of course all Christmas music Christmas Eve. Working five days a week, some days doubles, and having one manager who always wanted it on one of the Christmas stations can have an adverse effect on a person. I like the radio system now where the music gets loaded on to a computer and maybe every fourth song or so is a Christmas song.

Just like a tattoo...

Jordin Sparks' song "Tattoo" owns me. A very small part of me is ashamed no matter how much I adore her because the song is so damn generic and bubblegum pop but I love it.

So I've just changed the theme of my LJ to reflect the approaching holiday season. I know I haven't been around that much lately but I've been going crazy with school and life but things are starting to level out; I have two more weeks of classes and then finals this semester and then almost a month off for winter break. Next semester I'm only taking two classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays (College Chemistry II + Lab and Principles of Nutrition--both of which I need to get my degree).

Also, I've been writing a bit this month--original fic. Well, actually, it's been more like extreme brainstorming and plotting but nevertheless, I've been immersed in the creative process for the last few weeks.

Anywho, HAPPY THANKSGIVING to all!
