| | enraged | ] | I recieved a phone call this morning from the Museum telling me that I am already eliminated from the doctorate sellection process, and don´t even need to bother to attend to the foreign language test next morning, that would be the next step. Since it´s a problem inherent to brazilian public universities, it makes no sence to rant about it here. But you may bet I am mad about it, you may bet.
I see I don´t have much room there to grow in my carreer. After nine years working there for free, it´s definetly the time to leave. I am sending away my curriculum away to private universities (that are shite, achademically speaking, but are seeking for people with my qualifications for their ranks, if only to enslave them on their overly exploiting and low paying job system). My PhD will have to wait, God knows for how long. I have to survive first. |

| My life in cycles |
[Jul. 8th, 2008|10:24 pm] |

| | uncomfortable | ] | So, weblogger.net decided to end its services in 07/11, leaving my 7.5 years old blog to die in three days. I have saved my past archives and all, but I just had to start a brand new blog (on blogspot, because I can´t be arsed to geek around blog services nowadays). Now that I have done it, I came to think that this symbolizes the end of another cycle in my life. I can´t find a way to repost my archives on a blogspot blog, so this new blog will not have the registry of my past years, including love, mistakes, accomplishments, friendships, while I open a new one, like a blank piece of paper waiting to be filled.
Which also reminds me when I closed my first Livejournal account back in 2002. I had that account since 2000, I think, and it always was a funny way to keep in contact with my friends, although most of them were in touch on mIRC everytime. So, in 2002 I had already started my blog in portuguese and kinda felt livejournal was useless to me. The feeling wasn't the same as now. Actually, I think this LJ is, now, the remaining electronic link to my recent past...
Everything feels weird right now :^P |

So, the regular peppers you probably know are varieties of the same species, Capsicum annuum. But did you know this particular variety?

This is a "penis pepper". Not photoshopped at all. |

| | hopeful | ] | The animation course is over. Although I am still very experimental, I think I have what is needed to become a professional animator in a near future. I want it. I have a natural talent for Botany, but exercising my creativity gives me more pleasure than identifying plants. I have even assembled my own micro studium in my room, so I can keep practicing. My Phantasy Star III short film project is my current goal, and if I succeed, I think I will look for a real job on this area.
I also have sodomized Duma with Laya's bow. Metaphorically :^P |

This is my very first experience with full body android design ever, both sketching and animating. There must be lots of design flaws, since I drew most of the details by intuition and probably have missed many others (though I did remove his elbow plates, couldn´t get them right). I didn´t bother to clean up the trace because of it. I thought Wren was much heavier and slower than Mieu, and his movement should be more vertically oriented.
I didn´t like the antenna on his backpack/batteries/whatever. It just disappears at frame 4 :^P
I have all elements for my 11'' animation sequence (including a sequence with Laya and her army attacking). I only need to find a way to put everything together without After Effects (which would cost me a decade of savings, and my sister's boyfriend is the slowest pirate of the world, arr), since Image Ready is shitey. |

I didn´t quite like it, I think the movement should be more jumpy, it looks like she is just walking fast. In fact, I had to remove half the frames to make her move faster.

He says "Chaaarge" or something. And from that point on, cyborgs run in craze from right to left. I have to work on them separately and place them behind him (many times per frame), which seems insane in Image Ready. Must get After Effects as soon as possible.
Optimised a 66Mb file (!!!) into a 180Kb one, not bad :^P
Changed his chest armor and cape from the original artwork. They just didn´t look adequate for a melee warrior in combat. |

| Animation |
[May. 11th, 2008|11:09 pm] |
I am animating a short sequence (which will become a full 3:45 animation later) using Phantasy Star III as the theme. It is a scene where Orakio's and Laya's armies collide on the battle field. I imagined Orakio's troops composed by Wren and Mieu type cyborgs, so I choosed to draw portraits for them in strange angles (that I planned to use), so I get the drawing right and constant for the animation. I have made a story board where Orakio's and Laya's graphics are already well stabilished (with deliberated modifications from Toyo Ozaki's conceptual art for dramatic purposes), so I had to work only on the cyborgs.
I did Mieu*:

This is a photo of the picture. Yes, looks like Nei, but it´s because I removed the short skirt-kind-thing she wears down there in the original, just for the fun of drawing hips, legs and butt. The skirt is included on the animation :^P
*Wren´s just a rubbish sketch :^P |

(I was photoshopping something involving Goatse hands, lucky me - and you - that I have found a scanner available :^P) |

| | scared | ] | A hour and half ago I felt a ressonance, something like a low frequency sound coming from nowhere, high enough to vibrate a loose window. It lasted 15 seconds. Before it stopped, I felt the whole house shake, like a big truk was passing by the street, except there was no truck. Minutes later I saw in the news that there was a 5.2 earthquake in São Paulo State by the same time that was reported to be registered in many areas in neighbouring states, including Rio.
No major damages nor injuried people were reported, afaik.
But holy shit. |

| | thoughtful | ] | It seems I have regular access to internet from home again, after all these last 3.5 years. It´s only slightly better than a regular dial-up connection (I mean, a dial-up connection from 10 years ago), but it´s wireless, doesn´t use the phone line, and doesn´t require my old burned out modem to work.
Everytime I stayed away from the uuuh intenets, I lose contact with much more interesting people than I could replace offline in these same periods. I feel like my social life is made of sand castles that take a lot of work to build, and only a splash of water to wash them away. For a reason I accept, but do not understand, some parts of these castles prevail, and are always there when I build a new one. |

| | apathetic | ] | I am still in a state of emotional torpor.
Meanwhile, I am making adjustments to an article I wrote last year but was rejected, to try to submit it to a journal of "impact", some kind of confuse index that ranks the most important journals and indicates which ones we should seek first to publish our works. Curiously, the Museum gave us a list of the highest impact Botany journals available, which includes the South African Journal of Botany, the Pakistan Journal of Botany, and even the Bangladesh Journal of Botany, which hasn´t published a number since 2004. The list, that also includes a neozealandish, two chinese, and two polish journals, features not a single bazilian journal. Although I think that science should be thought and made for all people, I think that scientists of each nationality should have the right to choose to publish their works primarily in their own language in their own country, and then spread it to the world. Meanwhile, low quality - and rather blatantly false - researches are reaching common people through the big media with no obstacles, filling up the public opinion with absurds which they call "science".
In other news, I subscribed to a animation course held by Anima Mundi that starts in two weeks. It is the first time in my life that I subject myself to theory on something I consider myself somewhat skilled already. This exercise of humbleness does not stop there: although I have some experience in animation (stop motion, and animation softwares like the ancient mid 90's Animator Pro, Image ready, and some demos), I opted by the basic course instead of the advanced course, because I believe I need the basic theory about animation before I can go further at it.
The day I made my subscription, I met a friend from college who is also a professional dubbing actor. Quite auspicious. |
