Apparently this has generated controversy.

I got hooked into another webcomic...

(But with lines like these..)

So why did.. [21 Aug 2008|06:41pm]
[ mood | red-faced, I swear! ]

..I find this so funny?
song chart memes
more graph humor and song chart memes

(Maybe since an old boss of mine had a set of cowboy boots in checkerboard two-tone grey... he thought...)

Close to home? [05 Aug 2008|05:51pm]
[ mood | still wondering ]

...and to think that it happened on Mulberry Street Balcom Avenue...

Where my mom's house is... and just one house south of which the street is taped off for the rest of the block, with about a dozen police cars, trucks, portable pavilions for cameramen, etc...

Wasn't anywhere close. Was at work when it happened. Don't know anyone in the houses down there, still not quite sure which house it was, but it seems to have been on the other side of the street south of us by about 6 houses.
(Even though when I first heard about it I was half expecting it to involve our next-door neighbors... historically, a lot of drama has shown up just south of our fence. Including crime drama.)

Off to see.. [29 Jun 2008|11:21pm]

..And despite my recent attendance of the marvelous (let's use the right word here) Wonderful musical Wicked, this post has nothing to do with that great show.

I hope this works out.

Damnit.

Up in the Air [01 May 2008|12:07am]
[ mood | top of the world, ma... ]

Today's adventure took us to Acoma/Sky City, a thousand-year-old pueblo built on top of a mesa. This time I have a few pix forthcoming, as they allow cameras if you pay the fee and follow the rules.
There is a new state-of-the-art visitor center below the pueblo, and a bus takes you up the "road John Wayne built" (it was graded so he could film here) for the guided tour. Our guide went by the name of Gary, although he told us his true name as well - which I couldn't quite follow. As he took us around the pueblo he told us many informative, dramatic and funny stories about the place and its history (i.e: One of the three water catchbasins on the mesa has a tree growing next to it, the only tree on the grounds... he said he calls it the "Acoma National Forest".) And if you visit the website above you'll see images of their famous style of pottery, which was for sale all over the place, about every 50 yards.. in addition to fry bread and sweet fruit pies that were made that morning. And the visitor center cafe makes an excellent Green Chile stew, too.
We wanted to walk down the old path (which is permitted) but the wind came up, and by the end of the tour the sand was flying hard enough to sting - and they closed the footpath for safety reasons.
We ended the day by visiting some of Krystal's friends from back when... tomorrow, the road home calls us! (Just don't ask what it calls us...)

Kaboom! [29 Apr 2008|10:12pm]
[ mood | blown away ]

If This looks like a big, big volcanic crater (note the scale!)... well, it is.
And apropos enough, it's right next to Los Alamos, "The Birthplace of the Atomic Age"! And it's right up there in the Jemez mountains and the tribal pueblos therein.
(Sorry, neither the pueblos nor the lab allowed photos... you'll just have to settle for shots of the big valley made by the boom, and from our hikes.)

And we stopped in at the little village of Chimayo to pick up something for my mom... and to pay our respects: Last time Krystal was there, she was just going through her chelation and needed any and all available healing..

(Pictues coming, I promise...)

Yes, it's very large. [28 Apr 2008|10:37pm]
[ mood | um, spaced... ]

We made a day trip Here...

And later we ate an incredible meal here!

And Krystal's friends Tom and Michelle, both teachers here in Albuquerque, have the neatest house in my recent memory... e.g: a hidden door to a zennish garden back yard having stream, bridge and pool, not one but Two treehouses connected by a rope bridge, and a lamppost in the wilderness...
...all this not to mention a huge, deeply inset round window, and a wardrobe that goes somewhere besides clothes storage (might have something to do with that lamppost...)

All in all,a good day.

That left turn [27 Apr 2008|11:17pm]
[ mood | thoroughly, completely, etc. ]

at Albuquerque...

took us here...

Long drive up from Prescott waaaay uphill to Flagstaff, then a more gentle uphill to the continental divide - and from there downhill to the Rio Grande. We met Krystal's sister & family at a Mexican Buffet called Pancho's and proceeded to get ourselves thoroughly, completely, impossibly stuffled...

Tomorrow, the VLA!

Thanks Liz! More road reports to come...

The little alien [17 Apr 2008|12:18am]

A Harlan Ellison line: Do you realize just how much pain there is in the world?
I got reminded of this today. We had a visitor at work.

A little visitor from far away. )

EDIT: He was gone when I saw him this morning, but he left me a gift... Read more... )
