[LJ2ME] Digitally Homeless

Today was my last day at bluewire. I wiped and reloaded my laptop and turned it in. It feels really weird to not have a computer at the moment. I'm going to wait and see if the issue me a new one at my new job. If they don't I'll probably get a new one. Maybe an ASUS mini.

hurray!

Taxes are done! Only six months "late". Next year I am doing these in January. Although I was pretty preoccupied this past January. (Oh, hello there son!)

[LJ2ME] wondering

I'm laying here listening to my husband snore next to me, my daughter snore next door, and my son breathe lightly by my side. What will tomorrow bring? I am not able to fix on concrete worries right now, but I am unable to sleep. I have never seriously concerned myself with what tomorrow will bring, being very much a creature of the moment. Yet I find it disconcerting to have so much worry flowing around me. I think in a moment I will set down my phone and make an effort to get to sleep. Or at the very least cuddle the small warm bundle by my side and snuggle into the larger warm body next to me. And really, with this activity in my immediate future, what do I have to fear?

Current Mood: contemplative

Ah, turn turn turn

So that's what the recent kerfuffle was about. I finally saw (and heard truth be told) this video by Kate Perry.

And immediately upon watching it I remembered this video:

I remember the flurry of protests that Jill Sobule received for it. Do you have any idea how hard it was to find when all I could remember was the title which is identical to the first? Kate Perry is EVERYWHERE.

Stunned

Oh, Fail Blog, you never, um, fail to surprise me.

I'm not exactly sure what they were going for here. Potty training? Those girls are a bit too old and a bit the wrong gender for that to be applicable. Hmmm....

[LJ2ME] no thank you

So apparently the Migraine Fairy looked down and said, "Hey, I haven't visited Deb recently. And it looks like her husband is gone on business for 48 hours so she has the kids to herself. Today would be perfect!" Yeah. Head? You suck. Thank heavens we have a lovely emergency stock of codeine based pain killers. I'm finally able to think. And eat. Ugh. The last 7 hours are just a blur. I somehow managed to get food in the kids; I'm just not quite sure what or how.

EEEEEEEE

So you know how the "My LJ" homepage contains a Random User module? I've never monkeyed around with that page as I honestly don't use it much. I have a link to it when I want to go somewhere else in LJ. I zipped through there on my way to another link but came screeching to a halt when I saw the pictures that were there. I want! I WANT THESE PENS! I sent the link to my husband with the directions to translate it for me in the hopes it contains some sort of information on the pens. Unfortunately they aren't links to a merchant. *sob*

Wait! Ah-ha! I went back and viewed the source of the pictures. They are hotlinked from the Russian merchant's website. Traceable! Yay!.

*edit* I found an English merchant. Yay!

W...T...F...

I...have no words for how very wrong this is. On more than one level. I am left inarticulate.

PETA asks Ben & Jerry to switch from cow milk to breast milk in their ice cream.

ETA: Apparent PETA is incapable of noticing that the precedent they site for their request was actually banned from using human milk.

Husband Logic

TJ was watching Spongebob the other night and it was a Mermaid Man episode.

Husband: "Hey, who does the voice for Mermaid Man?"
Me: "I have no idea."
*pause as we listen*
H: "I bet it's Ernest Borgnine1."
M: "Borgnine? Is he still alive?"
H: "Obviously since he does the voice of Mermaid Man."
M:...."I detect something circular in your logic there."

1 He was right, of course.

Writer's Block: Health Care

Is health care a right or a privilege to you?

Submitted by [info]deserves

View other answers

I usually don't bother with these but the phrasing of this one intrigued me. "Is" indicates the state of health care at this moment in time. What is health care at this moment in time? In America at least it is a privilege. But then we have the awkward "to you" at the end of the question. In reality, health care isn't anything to me. It can't be. It is a concept. Concepts cannot affect me in reality. To phrase the question in a manner that directs it at the current state of affairs, it probably should have ended with "for you". However, that is not the questioner's intent here. In reality, I believe they are asking what health care should be in a more perfect world in the future as it is impossible to alter the state of the world in this moment. It is only possible to implement changes now that will alter the state of the world in the future.
Altering the phrasing slightly, we have "Should health care be a right or a privilege to you?"
But wait. To me? Hell, if I'm the only one I'm concerned about, of course it should be a right! Again, is this really what the original questioner intended? I doubt it. So we truly need to drop the final prepositional phrase.
"Should health care be a right or a privilege?"
Ah, there we go.

Just a thought

I think I would enjoy Autumn more if I didn't have -50F staring at me from January. It makes it a little harder to appreciate crisp weather.

In better news, I got the oil stove working again. And we have the wood pile to end all wood piles. I need to take a picture. Dearest Husband has been working almost every evening and weekends to cut up all the trees that were felled last year and it is awesome.
