| New CLONE WARS Poster / Fan Days show in Texas! |
[Sep. 19th, 2008|09:10 am] |
Based on the highly anticipated CLONE WARS show coming to Cartoon Network, a new montage poster I've illustrated has been released. This piece was originally created as a Japanese exclusive before the theatrical release last August, but timing and scheduling with Lucasfilm's marketing permitted that from happening.
Which is fine, because now, all new episodes of the weekly show begins Friday, October 3rd at 9pm, which is a good excuse as any for this piece to see the light.

How can you nab one of these posters? For FREE?
I'll be attending the STAR WARS FAN DAYS II show in Plano, Texas, October 25th and 26th. Be one of the first 500 through the door and you'll get one of these puppies free!
In addition, I'll be doing exclusive show sketch cards. Mind you- these will be 30 second sketches, and characters of my choice but these will be free as well. I mostly draw Stormtroopers on these because many of the other characters are virtually impossible for me to draw in 30 seconds. Sorry ahead of time for not drawing C-3PO on your cards, please keep in mind that these are FREE!
I'll also have books, posters, DVDs and even original art on display and for purchase. Don't miss this show! More info HERE! |

| My Head gets around... |
[Aug. 28th, 2008|05:59 pm] |
One of my dearest friends is fellow STAR WARS Artist Randy Martinez. No stranger to the sacred saga, fandom, or excellent how-to-draw tutorials, Randy is the author and artist of the upcoming HOW TO DRAW MONSTERS book. You can check out / order the book on Amazon HERE.
If you're a fan of Randy's art, then you already know he enjoys putting his friends and loved ones in much of his art. Sometimes you can notice familiar faces right away, sometimes it's more subtle. One piece in particular stands out from the upcoming book that not only depicts myself, but a cast of fellow Lucasfilm cats.

In fact, Lucasfilm's Bonnie Burton has a STAR WARS BLOG where you can not only preview the entire image, she interviews Randy about how the image (and the book) came to be! Check it out HERE! Of course, you can always see the latest and greatest that Randy is up to at RandyMartinez.com!
I tried to come up with a better headline revolving around getting good head, but somehow it keeps steering in the wrong direction. :) |

| MATT BUSCH ON CANADIAN TV! |
[Aug. 24th, 2008|08:27 am] |
Yo. I was recently a guest on Canada's entertaining comic book talk show, THE COMIC BOOK SYNDICATE, and the episode segments are now on YouTube! Enjoy them Below!
In addition to chatting about how I broke into the biz and pimp a few projects, I weigh in on Iron Man, Indiana Jones, and Clone Wars reviews. I also share a Gene Simmons story, insight on George Lucas, a rant on Sam Jackson, and how the heck Robocop ended up in Canada!
*Note* There 5 segments to this episode, but I'm only in the 4 below. However, the show is always entertaining, and often features great comic book artists and writers joining the fun. Be sure to check out many of their other episodes on YouTube...
*Also Note* I know, I know. Yet another TV interview with my hat turned sideways like a punk idiot. No, this isn't a new look for me, but rather what is often asked by producers for lighting reasons.

| JAPANESE STAR WARS PRINT NOW AVAILABLE ONLINE! |
[Aug. 12th, 2008|07:04 pm] |
The exclusive Celebration Japan print, illustrated by yours truly is now available for a limited time at StarWarsShop.com! The print run is limited to 250, and each piece is signed and numbered by myself. The poster-size print measures a whopping 24" X 36" and has a deluxe aqueous coating. They look great! You can check it out by clicking the banner below!

Titled "Land of the Rising Suns", the foundation of this piece began years ago as a wrap-around cover of Autograph Times Magazine. At the time, the image requested a self portrait engulfed in a sea of characters from the original trilogy and Episode I. The image quickly became a favorite among fans and friends, asking for it become a print in the future. That day has come, and I've updated the image to reflect characters and vehicles from each of the movies, with a twist of Japanese pop culture design.
As to what the Japanese characters represent? If you can't read Japanese, I don't wan't to spoil it. I think half the fun is the mystery and the adventure of figuring it out. For part of it, I will drop this hint: Konnichiwa, Boku wa Matt Busch desu. Anata Wa Star Wars o kakeru!
This rare poster won't last so grab yours while you can! Click the above banner! |

| MATT BUSCH in JAPAN! |
[Jul. 16th, 2008|02:41 am] |
Yo- currently in Japan- sorry for the impersonal news bit, but I'll have a better update of all the sweet stuff- PLUS PICTURES and VIDEO- soon!
Matt!
Matt Busch is currently on in Tokyo promoting the 30th Anniversary of STAR WARS in Japan! This weekend/next week is the STAR WARS Celebration Japan show at the Makuhari Messe in Chiba. Taking advantage of the trip, Busch will also be filming scenes for several new videos, as well as actually getting some vacation time- something unheard of for Busch.
In addition to an exclusive set of one-of-a-kind sketch cards, Busch will be toting a brand new STAR WARS poster, Japanese-style! Titled "Land of the Rising Suns", the foundation of this piece began years ago as a wrap-around cover of Autograph Times Magazine. At the time, the image featured a self portrait of artist Matt Busch engulfed in a sea of characters from the original trilogy and Episode I: The Phantom Menace. The image quickly became a favorite among fans, requesting that it become a print in the future. That day has come, and Busch has updated the image to reflect characters and vehicles from each of the movies, with a twist of Japanese pop culture design.

As to what the Japanese characters represent? "For the fans that can't read Japanese, I don't wan't to spoil it. I think half the fun is the mystery and the adventure of figuring it out. For part of it, I will say this, though: Konnichiwa, Boku wa Matt Busch desu. Anata Wa Star Wars o kakeru!"
A week from now Busch will head straight for San Diego for the Comic-Con International show, which Busch is a featured Special Guest. Stay tuned for a complete schedule of all the things Busch will have planned for that! |

| New video with highlights from COMIC-CON! |
[Jul. 14th, 2008|06:32 am] |
Just around the corner is the 2008 COMIC-CON INTERNATIONAL in beautiful San Diego- the largest pop-culture entertainment show on the planet. This year, I was floored to be invited as a featured Special Guest. I'm still in shock about that, but I'm excited and have some cool things planned. To get a taste, here's a glimpse of what ran amuck at last year's show.
San Diego COMIC-CON Highlights! (2007)
Look for pop-ups from Rob Zombie, Sherie Moon Zombie, Dane Cook, Kevin Bacon, Henry Rollins, Robert Downey Jr., Stan Winston, Gene Simmons, and many more. Comic-Con International this year runs July 24th through the 27th. You can find out more info at www.Comic-Con.org.
Of course, the latest up-to-date schedule on when and where I'll be at Comic-Con will be posted here, and further tidbits at MattBusch.com. Once again, thanks everyone for your friendship and support. |

| NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD Poster! |
[Jul. 11th, 2008|06:20 am] |
Hey- sorry the news bits have been a little informal here lately. There's a lot going on that ties into the shows in Japan and San Diego this month, and I can barely keep up! Here's a nice little news bit on the new NOTLD poster! Thanks everyone for your patience and support!
-Matt!
Due to popular demand, one of Matt Busch's previous covers to a NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD comic book will be available soon as a limited edition poster! The Patrick Nagel-style piece was originally published as the cover of the NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD first Annual Edition, exclusive to a Los Angeles convention, though later re-released to the public Online.

"The fact that this is being released as a poster is perfect," says Busch, "Though Nagel's work may have been a bit over-exposed in Malls everywhere during the 80's, seeing this piece done as an actual print brings it to the exact homage I had envisioned."
The prints will debut later this month at the Comic-Con International show in San Diego, California, to which Busch is also a featured Special Guest this year. The prints will be available at the Avatar Press booth, and Busch will be on hand to sign them (for free) on Thursday the 24th from 1 to 2, Friday the 25th from 1 to 2, and Sunday the 27th from 1 to 2. A complete schedule of where you can find Matt Busch and related events at Comic-Con will be posted here soon! |

| Anatomy of a Photo-Shoot / JPG Magazine |
[Jul. 10th, 2008|02:11 am] |
Working hard behind the scenes at MattBusch.com is my boy Paul Michael Kane, an established writer, designer, and most recently he's been making waves as an incredible photographer. A while back, Paul took some time off from the East Coast to visit my home studios for several projects I'll be plugging here soon.
Anyway, during the visit, Paul seized the opportunity to do the first-ever photo-shoot of me in my playground. (And people wonder why I never leave the house much.) The video below is a taste of what goofy vanity you'll be seeing in various media in the coming months.
Anatomy of a Photoshoot: Matt Busch - by Paul Michael Kane
In addition, the photo below is in the running to be featured in an upcoming issue of JPG Magazine. You can help by voting for it right HERE.

To check out more of Paul's incredible photography, visit www.PaulMichaelKane.com. Thanks for your continued support! Some cool announcements coming soon! |

| You Can Draw STAR WARS Vol. 2 on DVD! |
[Jul. 8th, 2008|03:45 am] |
In case you didn't see this coming, here's the Press Release:
YOU CAN DRAW STAR WARS VOLUME 2 COMING TO DVD!
New York, NY-- As a follow-up to the original series of tutorial videos that found limited release on DVD in 2007, Lucasfilm Ltd. has authorized a new DVD from DK Publishing and Planetmatt Entertainment: YOU CAN DRAW STAR WARS- VOLUME TWO. Hosted by notorious artist Matt Busch, the DVD will collect all seven Episodes from Season 2 released this year.
The first series chronicled the entire creation of a 30th Anniversary poster, whereas Season 2 includes the creation of the REVENGE OF THE SITH Style D One Sheet, but also spreads focus to areas such as drawing on the road, storyboarding for film and animation, and comic books. Each chapter includes comical skits to spice up the pace, including a few where Busch parodies Indiana Jones- another Lucasfilm staple.

The tutorials began as a side promotion for the book of the same name from DK Publishing, to which Busch produced nearly 400 illustrations. Before released on DVD, all videos can first be seen on StarWars.com and KidDK.com. The videos later hit other avenues online, and have had more than one million plays on MySpaceTV alone. "It's awesome that these are available on DVD," comments Busch, "for the dedicated aspiring artist, to be able to experience the details at four times the resolution is wonderful."
Busch himself will be attending the upcoming STAR WARS Celebration Japan next week in Tokyo with a brand new limited edition poster. The following week, Busch will be a featured Special Guest at Comic-Con International in San Diego, the largest pop-culture show on the planet.
The new Volume Two DVD will debut at Comic-Con as well. To find out how to get your hands on a copy for FREE, check out Busch's Spotlight panel on Saturday, July 26th from 11:30 - 12:30pm in Room 30CDE. Another good idea would be to stop by the DK booth (In the Lucasfilm Pavilion) on Sunday, July 27th from 10 - 11am where You Can Draw Star Wars author Bonnie Burton and artists Matt Busch and Tom Hodges will be happy to sign and doodle in your books, and give away free DVDs while supplies last. |
