Had a momentary panic upon opening the fridge finding no milk left in it. Fortunately, it was only concealed behind the yoghurts.

Tried to right a song on the piano, but then I went for a shower and when I came back I'd lost the thread of what I was trying to play. It wasn't much anyway, just a chorus and one line.

Had a slightly frightening encounter with a scary weirdo at the library today which has been playing on my mind. He was a young asian man, scruffily dressed, well spoken(so much so I thought he was putting it on at first. Seriously, it was almost Noel Coward), and something about him just set my teeth on edge. First of all he tried to talk to me through a gap in the shelves, instead of the usual method of face-to-face. He was trying to tell me that he'd seen a book that had been shelved incorrectly the day before, except that he couldn't remember which book it was but it had "some obscenities". I politely mentioned it had nothing to do with me(I wasn't in the library yesterday), and this seemed to satisfy him.

Next: "With your vast knowledge, could you possibly recommend something to keep a person entertained for half-an-hour?"

I handed him a copy of Nineteen Eighty-Four which I had in my hand.

"Ah, I know this one! Old George, eh?"

A few minutes later he came up to me again and said he wanted to make a complaint. He indicated our small display of gay magazines(through a gap in the shelves again), and suggested that they might be difficult to remove from their containers. He attempted to demonstrate this and appeared to be surprised when it turned out to not be the case. He proceeded to put the magazine he'd taken out in what was clearly the wrong container. Then he wandered off muttering to himself and went and sat down again.

The odd thing was, even though I told him - twice - that he had a complaint he should talk to a member of staff, he just completely ignored me as if I hadn't spoken. It was like it didn't even register that I was talking to him. I'm not sure whether he was mildly autistic or just extremely rude, but the whole thing was really unsettling and I was glad when he left me alone. If he'd tried to talk to me again, there's a chance I might've run screaming from the building.

A new noise makes dancing unpleasant (5,4) [25 Nov 2005|11:10am]
Hello there. Sorry I haven't been in for a while. I've been busy, though:

Dead Leaf Scrapings - Wireless World

1. i wish i could remember my dreams
2. who else would even notice
3. complaining again
4. not what i planned
5. sinking feeling
6. the creeping chill
7. deeper down below
8. november
9. outside and inside
10. in the hallway
11. with a whimper
12. chorus

Well, this is it - my entry for this year's NaSoAlMo contest. Five minutes of ear-splitting noise followed by 24 minutes of mucking about with samples and cheap keyboards. It's not exactly perfectly formed, but I'm just pleased to've finished it this time. I've used the services of the excellent Web Archive to host it.

FOUR MORE YEARS! FOUR MORE YEARS! [03 Nov 2004|10:04am]
Argh. This is horrible. And it still isn't over. If anyone wants me, I'll be watching News 24 and quietly weeping.

Hurrah! My first "tune" has gone up on the Internet Archive - it is called Some Of Your Areas, for reasons that will become apparent if you listen to what the crazy old AM radio guy is saying near the end.

I've already done track two which is a little improv piano thing and hopefully should be up by tomorrow.

BLARG [01 Nov 2004|02:20pm]
Hello world. I've decided to have a go at this as a workable alternative to NaNoWriMo, given that it's something I might actually be able to finish. So I've spent the whole morning mucking about with found-sounds from the radio and the telly in Cooledit Pro. Schools programmes are a good source of interesting soundbites, and plus kids voices sound really creepy when you slooooooooow theeeeeeem dooooooooooown. I'll post some work in progress stuff as I go along.

Work's over for the next two months, and since my future with MTL is a little hazy, I've started rewriting my CV in preparation for an assault on the temp agencies. Looking at my work history, I can't help thinking it reflects badly that none of my jobs have lasted for more than six months. Admittedly, most were temporary positions(I've only ever been sacked once) but I usually feel hopelessly inadequate every time I have to show someone my CV and explain to them why I've never been in employment for longer than half a year.

Meanwhile, have decided to give up NOTBBC for a bit, as it either makes me extremely angry or extremely depressed, or both. I feel like I'm only going there out of habit at the moment, so it's probably best to go cold turkey for a while. I think I'll last about a day.

The government's really informative "Preparing For Emergencies" booklet has arrived, in an envelope so ridiculously unofficial-looking I almost threw it out, thinking it was a promo for a club night or something. I shall read it and report back. Odds on they won't be able to offer anything more useful than "Paint yourself white to deflect the blast wave" or "If anyone dies, move them to another room".

I feared this day would come [23 Jul 2004|11:00pm]
It looks like the worst has happened.
Superman has begun to use his powers...for EVIL.

"I guess this young man jumped in the back seat of the victim's vehicle and just started hitting him and when the victim attempted to call using his cell phone, (Superman) grabbed the cell phone and he stomped on it."

Reviving an idea I feebly attempted late last year before giving up, which was to do website based entirely on scribbly biro drawings. Don't know exactly what to do with it, which was the main problem last time. Still.

Why did no-one tell me there was a new Polyphonic Spree album out today?

I'm up to track four(or 14) and it's pretty good so far.

Edit: Track 8 sounds like The Kinks! How unexpected.

Okay, a reprieve. It seems that the letter I got yesterday was sent out by mistake and I'm not actually getting the boot after all. Something of a relief as you might imagine.

Isn't it great when you go away on holiday and they sack you? [15 Jun 2004|08:10pm]
So, that's it then. My best shot at a career and its all over. Nothing to look forward to from now on, or ever again possibly. Bastards.

C'uh, I spend an hour teaching my dad how to do mp3s and didn't get to watch "Bodies" after all! Never mind, I'm sure it'll be on again. And again. And again the day after that. Good old BBC3.

Sunday nausea. Bleargh.

Most I've done today: Finished Resident Evil. Ending: Crap. Given the standard of cutscenes and acting in the rest of the game, I suppose I should've expected as much. Still, after playing a game for 13-odd hours, you might be forgiven for expecting a little more. Okay, so there are actually four endings, but they're all variations on: "They escape in a helicopter. Some stuff blows up." Nothing quite as excellent as Silent Hill's "It was all a dream and you are in fact LYING DEAD IN THE REMAINS OF YOUR CAR!" ending. Um, sorry if I've spoiled that for anyone.

I've only finished the "Chris" game. Not sure I can be bothered with the "Claire" game as the variations seem pretty minor - I think I'll just move on to RE2.

Off to watch "Bodies"(new BBC3 hospital thing)in a bit. Apparently it's written by the bloke that did "Cardiac Arrest" who goes by the excellent name of JED MERCURIO - I approve of writers that sound like Marvel Comics characters. It can't be any duller than STEVEN KING'S THE KINGDOM, at any rate.
