| Aug. 28th, 2005 06:25 pm Funeral Yesterday we went to the funeral of an aunt. She was my mother's sister. My mother had two sisters and this sister was the closest, both in years and relationally. Thankfully, the service was good. The pastor preached about the hope of the gospel, which is what only matters in moments like these anyway. She was only 67, not that old at all. The weird thing about funerals is that it is a sad occasion of course, and yet, the meeting of relatives can be actaully fun. So I met this niece, the only child of my mother's youngest sister, that I probably had not seen in close to 20 years. Turns out she looks a lot like my daughter! It was real good to meet her. So mixed emotions indeed.
One thing, something's going on in August in our family. An aunt died on 24-8-1985. Last year, an aunt died on 24-8-2004. And this year, an aunt died on 22-8-2005. And 24/8/1894 was the day my grandfather on father's side was born.
Seems we have a thing with dates in our family. There are also good examples, thankfully.
Ilse, my sister, was born on 26/7, same day as the aunt that died last week. Marjo, my daughter, was born on 23/9, same day as my youngest sister Helga. Her oldest daughter was born on the same day as my father, 20/12.
Strange, isn't it?
